Hidilyn Diaz edit

Hi, thank you for your edit to Hidilyn’s page stating ‘Corrected claim of first gold won by Filipino” While I would be the first person to cheer for that I’m afraid that you are mistaken. Arianne Cerdeña won the first gold medal for the Philippines in a demonstration sport, as stated in her wiki page. For it, along with many other victories, she was inducted to the Philippine Sports Hall of Fame last year and awarded earlier this year. There is no such thing as a non-demonstration sport in the Olympics, only Olympic sports and sometimes demonstration sports which unfortunately are not counted in the medal tally because they are not part of the Olympic programme. Let’s give Hidi the credit for this in her wiki page, she deserves it.

You may check the facts here https://olympics.com/en/olympic-games/seoul-1988/medals which shows that the Philippines received only 1 bronze medal by Leopoldo Serantes. Not all Olympic games have demonstration sports, they are introduced by hosts countries to introduce sports that they feel merit an inclusion to the games. Kwon Jung-Yul from host Korea won in the men's division. talk) 17:27, 11 August 2021 (UTC)Reply
