Notability of Richard S. Erdman edit

A tag has been placed on Richard S. Erdman requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article, which appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Eeekster (talk) 03:02, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

The article edit

Unfortunately, I have had to delete the article since it was a copy and paste from this [1] website. I realize that you said that you wrote it, but I am sure you understand that Wikipedia can't possibly know who anybody is behind their usernames and that is why if you wish to give permission you have to do so in the formal ways described in the notice above this one. If you need any help don't hesitate to ask, but frankly sometimes it is easier just to rewrite an article than go through all the complications described above, especially as the tone required for an encyclopedia is different from publicity material. If you decide to do that you should be able to recreate the article just as you did the first time, but be sure that he meets the criteria described in WP:BIO and that you say so in the article. Which reminds me that if you have any connection with the subject you should read WP:COI and WP:AUTO about the policies and guidelines here. Good luck and let me know if I can help in any way.--Slp1 (talk) 04:05, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Okay, I understand.I will rewrite it with just the facts. Thanks. Mdaust (talk) 04:09, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Great. Make sure it is factual and not a puff piece. Your first version was too flowery for sure, but it was written for a different purpose of course! Citations to reliable independent sources (books, magazines, newspapers etc) will be important to prove his notability. --Slp1 (talk) 04:24, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes! Please do right it again. Eeekster (talk) 04:31, 2 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for File:Continuum.primary.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Continuum.primary.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Non-free files in your user space edit

Hey there Mdaust, thank you for your contributions. I am a bot, alerting you that non-free files are not allowed in user or talk space. I removed some files I found on User:Mdaust/RICHARD ERDMAN. In the future, please refrain from adding fair-use files to your user-space drafts or your talk page.

{{adminhelp}}

I am trying to change the title of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Mdaust/RICHARD_ERDMAN to RICHARD ERDMAN (artist) and keep getting the message that the title is blacklisted. Can you help? TIA Mdaust (talk) 16:06, 22 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Hello. The page should never be moved to RICHARD ERDMAN (artist), but to Richard Erdman (artist). However, the page is not ready for the mainspace as it contains no citations to reliable sources. As far as I can tell there is no blacklisting of either this title or the title you wished to move it, nor of the sole external link on the page, richarderdman.com, so can you explain exactly what message you are getting that makes you think it is blacklisted? By the way, any page that exists on wikipedia as a separate title can be linked simply by enclosing it in doubles brackets i.e., [[name]] so there's no need to provide the url of the page, but rather just [[User:Mdaust/RICHARD ERDMAN]].--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 16:16, 22 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Richard Erdman (artist) edit

The article Richard Erdman (artist) has been proposed for deletion because under Wikipedia policy, all biographies of living persons created after March 18, 2010, must have at least one source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't take offense. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Wikipedia:Referencing for beginners or ask at Wikipedia:Help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. Richard Erdman (artist) edit

I have reverted some of your recent edits to this article. You cannot use Wikipedia as a reference because it is inherently unreliable. You have the right idea with the references you have in the references section, but you need to move those references up into the body of the article. Take a look at WP:RS and WP:CITE for assistance or leave a message on my talk page. Also, please use edit summaries briefly explaining your edits so other users can see what you are trying to do. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 02:03, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the message. With respect to references, all I can say is that they should be independent of the subject and reliable, so newspapers, journals etc are the best kind. This is all explained at WP:RS. Images are a very tricky issue. Wikipedia cannot accept copyrighted images, but there are exceptions. Some types of image can, in certain situations, be used provided that they fall within Wikipedia's non-free use criteria and provided that a proper non-free use rationale is added to the image information page. This is explained at WP:NFCC. I suspect, but don't know for sure, that the images were removed from the article and the images tagged because their use does not fall under an appropriate non-free use criterion. In order to avoid such image problems, the copyright owner of the works of art themselves (usually, but not always the artist) can release them per the process described at WP:IOWN. I am by no means an expert on copyright issues on Wikipedia, but there is a place where you can ask such questions: WP:MCQ. Hope this helps. – ukexpat (talk) 19:55, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image File:Passage.lg.jpg edit

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Skier Dude (talk 03:29, 25 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
