WikiProject Newsletter n°1

Bonjour and welcome to the first WikiProject France newsletter!! It should become a monthly special of our project, but until the next issue, here are some points to consider for the month:

• In an effort to determine the active members from the inactive, all members are asked to simply sign on my special userpage.
• I have slightly rearranged and updated the Project page, putting all the featured lists in collapsible tables. This unclutteres the page and you only have to see them if you want to. Give your feelings at the talk page.
• I have made a Wikipedia advert for our project, Image:Qxz-ad108.gif, what do you think? Personally I feel the words need improving ...
• There are still map problems at Template:French commune - any help at resolving them would be greatly appreciated.
• What about starting a monthly drive? We currently have no Featured Portals (except for the Basque Portal which really isn't French any way), so how about improving Portal:France??? I don't know what's exactly wrong but the criteria can be seen at Wikipedia:Featured portal criteria.

It doesn't seem like a lot, so I hope we will still have enough problems for nexts months issue. Salut till the next issue, ChrisDHDR (17:18, 10 November 2007 (UTC)).

Whoops, image deletion

Hey Max, what's up. Listen, I messed up, I deleted Image:Chico Mendes.jpg (which you uploaded in '06), without first giving you a week's notice, which I was supposed to. The reason for deletion was that it was replaceable fair use, an image of someone that there's a free image for (hence the blue link above, the free image exists on commons). So it's up to you: If you'd rather have the week, I can undelete it, but it's extremely likely that it'll just get deleted again after the week, so I sort of hate to undelete it just to have it get deleted again. It's been one high aiming month! The French WikiProject and related pages have been aiming high for Christmas - and have received an equal number of presents in return!

• The French Portal is now a Featured Portal!!! It passed its Candidacy with 100%. Special thanks go to NYArtsnWords and all those that have made this Portal work.
• The Newsletter has made it to a second issue. You can find its page at WikiProject France/Outreach/Newsletter and its archives at WikiProject France/Outreach/Newsletter/Archives.
• A new page has been setup (WikiProject France/Links) to provide an index of the Projects/Portals pages (as well as helping newbees). When creating any pages in the Project/Portal namespace, please add them to the index page. This page also give WP:FRANCE members a handy watchlist.
• As like last time, members are asked to renew their memberships at Wikipedia:WikiProject France/Members.
• I will be on holiday when the next issue is meant to come out so could some generous person(s) please do the next issue at Wikipedia:WikiProject France/Outreach/Newsletter.

I left this warning on [User_talk:86.22.72.84 this IP talkpage] after the IP vandalized User:Operation Spooner's userpage calling them an "ASSHEAD", a clear violation of Wikipedia's no personal attacks policy. Repeated vandalism and personal attacks may result in a block by administrators (I am not one). Are you responsible for the vandalism? If not, then your comment on my page is extremely confused. No-one responded since so I went ahead with it. Would you mind discussing your thoughts on what constructive changes we should make to the article on the talkpage? Your actions on left anarchism are quickly becoming disruptive. You baselessly accuse multiple editors of sockpuppetry, slap an AFD tag on the article, don't bother to list it correctly or even make a comment on the AfD I submitted for you in good faith, then come along and blank half the article making it incomprehensible to readers; I am trying to give you the benefit of the doubt but this behaviour is hard to interpret as anything other than trolling. скоморохъ 16:52, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Blank AfD templates

You've been told that putting a blank AfD template on an article doesn't work. Nothing happens, except that you create work for others cleaning up after you. Your response: to put yet another blank AfD template on the article on the article.

All you have to do, if you won't complete the d*mn process because "you have a life", is tell someone, somewhere (like the talk page) what your reasons are and someone clearing the orphan AfD backlog will do it for you. It really couldn't be simpler.

So, a warning: if you disrupt Wikipedia again by putting an AfD template on an article and giving no decent reasons why the community should discuss deleting that article, you will be blocked from editing to prevent you from doing it again. ➔ REDVEЯS knows how Joan of Arc felt 15:30, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Neanderthal extinction hypotheses

Hiya, You reverted my edit on the anthropogenically caused extinction hypothesis that although inadequately footnoted was adequately referenced. The article as a whole is highly speculative and needs a very good edit as there is much more highly speculative and entirely un referenced stuff below my addition (that I too would would like to edit out). I do not wish to offend, but, rather than possibly trolling and removing what I considered a quality new addition to the article consider doing some real work there instead as it needs it. (N.B. my user name when logged in is "Mattjs" but I rarely log in and maintain my own pages any more.) Looking forward to your response - or I will be back to reinsert a properly footnoted and less wordy version - here below or probably on my user (IP address pages). Questions/responses about Your Thoughts on Wikipedia

I had occasion to read over your user page, and some of the things you've written inspire a few questions, perhaps a few friendly debate openers:

Have you considered the idea that, given the vast number of Wikipedia users, this would result in a ramped-up version of the problem typical of large committees: nothing ever really gets done, and what gets done gets done slowly because discussion takes forever and goes back-and-forth-and-back-and-foth and everyone feels the need to get their two cents in even if what they have to say is irrelevant, incorrect, or already been stated? That's the beauty of having a very small committee, or one head person in charge...things get done, and they get done efficiently and quickly.

I disagree and i think you you have missed an essential part - that "It would be a conduit for important working groups temporary and permanent" - which basically means the council would not be some kind of monolithic, centralized talking shop.
