• The Teahouse is primarily for newer editors' questions about topics such as creating pages, citing sources, and approval of articles.

I added some links to this page, but it needs more:

• Web mapping

I.e., the original author of the page wrote as if he is relatively unaware of the existing structure of Wikipedia. Read the article, look up some of the non-linked jargon terms (program names, etc.), look up articles that define them, and add links to them. For example, this article links to other articles:

Information about public sector wikis

Hello User:Marycontrary. Here are some sources of information about wikis in the public sector (a subset of wiki use that would fall under the heading of corporate wikis):

• google:wikis in government
  • Researchers recommend Wikis for government information
  • Wiki advocate sees government uses - this is about Larry Sanger
  • Etc. Just follow the links and start reading.
• google:wikis in urban planning

This book is about the use of wikis in organizations in general (mostly private companies, but the principles are similar for any organization):

• Wikinomics (book)
  • Table of Contents and Chapter 1 - PDF file showing some content from the Wikinomics book

You could start a user sub-page about Wikis in government, or go find another wiki to start such a page. If you get the page into encyclopedic shape, you could start a Public sector wiki article here. --Teratornis 16:57, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

I hope to improve on the appearance of Bicyclingwiki Main Page and I have a user:Marycontrary sandbox sub-page at the following: User:Marycontrary Main Page. You will notice that I have attempted some colors and will check them with the Wikipedia guidelines. You will see the color edit text on the edit page and so my question was why other article edit pages do not necessarily reveal that code text info. like my edits do. Thanks again. My userbox

Regarding my userbox- I didn't know that having a userbox with a POV was wrong. (I didn't make it, by the way.) I thought they existed outside POV rules. I'll remove it for now, but I've asked at the Help desk about this... ~Crowstar~ 21:53, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi Mary. I noticed you left a message on Crowstar's page stating that he should remove his userbox on anti-country music, because it was not NPOV. However, NPOV generally only applies when writing articles in the article namespace, and does not apply in user spaces, as user spaces are pages for users, and how boring would a user page be if it couldn't show personal opinions on such minor things such as thoughts on country music! :) Kind regards, Sebi _[talk] 22:15, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Mary, I'm inclined to agree with you about the userbox. Since it is divisive—userboxes and user pages can show opinion but should not fracture the community—I think it may be a candidate for deletion at...off the top of my head, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion. Hello, I was referring to this userbox that says: "This user believes that mankind cannot progress unless Country Music is eliminated.†" In my previous post, I had also linked to the Wikipedia guidelines for designing userboxes in addition to the POV. Yes I agree that music could have preferences, but I was requesting simply that any user or especially the creator of the userbox modify the statement to be about the music and not an attack on a population of people. I made this same request on the user's discussion page, whom I understand had created it, but also that anyone using the userbox could modify it too. Thanks. Marycontrary 14:13, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
