Hi Starkiryu64. This is my talk page rather than a sandbox. All I did was archive it as it was getting kinda long. It is something that some editors (though not all) do from time to time. There are several reasons for doing so. The main one for me is so that I don't have to scroll past a lot of old threads to get to the most recent ones. My fingers (like the rest of me) are getting older and they get achy when I have to use the scroll function on my mouse too much :-) I hope you are well and please enjoy the rest of your week! Thank you very much Gerda Arendt. A special and beautiful post for several reasons. Carmen was the second opera I saw live back in 1975. Isabel Leonard has been eagerly anticipating singing the role. Thank you! - As it happens, I just nominated Template:Did you know nominations/Elsa Dreisig another young singer, article translated by LouisAlain, I go over it - and then discover that I heard her in the Rameau, Simon Rattle conducting. - No live performances though, you can stay put. Carmen was last year, just before everything closed. I heard her in the livestream of Manon just now, but my bell again didn't ring when I saw the name. From what I can tell that Cenerentola was the last opera that Isabel got to perform in before things shut down. You did not "note the problem" that was on that page 7&6=thirteen. You asked for a bare url to be formatted and that was not a bare url. The reference was in a cite template. I hope you are aware of the difference. If you want something like that fixed and you don't want to do it yourself please try using the correct template. Wikipedia:WikiProject Citation cleanup has instructions and a list of the templates that you will want to use in the future. Maybe next time you will choose a different course and use one of those. It certainly reads like one 7&6=thirteen. As I replied in the same manner that your post presented I must not have throw any stones either. First, if fixing the problem truly was your preferred course then you would have added the title yourself. Next, I try and help to fix problems all the time with varying degrees of success. Claiming that working on them "is not the course for me" is another stone that you probably think you didn't throw. The statement is out of line if you take the time to examine my nearly 16 years of editing. Next, the problem on that page was that you used a template that had nothing to do with the problem that was there. I now understand that you were not aware of that. Hopefully this will help you to learn the difference and use the correct template to help other editors in the future. I have had good interactions with you in the past and would be happy for any more to occur in the future. But, if future interaction is to be avoided I certainly understand and will abide by your wishes except in any situation where it is required by policy. MarnetteD|Talk 05:24, 6 March 2021 (UTC)

Your edit summary said I could have fixed it; that was mutually true. That I replied in kind was not a WP:Personal attack, no more than was your edit summary. When I put up a bare url template, it usually merely prompts someone to cure it using "Filled in 1 bare reference(s) with reFill". That didn't happen; and you removed the template. Anyway, no insult was intended.

I used the 'wrong template' as you say.

I've been here over thirteen years, and except for someone deliberately and tenaciously being nonhelpful at ARS, which I characterized as repeated disruptive trollish behavior (and it is IMO), have never had a a problem. I now understand that they get to come in and make accusations about canvassing or commenting at the ARS listing of a particular article as to reasons why it should not be improved (they do get to do that at the AFD discussions for sure), as much as they want, and I should not say anything. 'Let trolls be trolls' and don't say anything. ANI has spoken: "ARS is not a walled garden."

These disrupters do not subscribe to the purpose of ARS. Since the behavior speaks for itself, and I've been warned, in the future I will let it go without comment or interaction.

Saying that the article at an AFD should be preserved because of its content or because it meets various standards is not a "personal insult." But any of my participation at AFD will be subject to scrutiny. This line of conversation reinforces that concern.

Your bringing up the ANI was connecting unrelated dots. That you invoked alleged violations and possible further sanctions is chilling on further conversation. You get to do that too. I thought it was an unwarranted low blow, but I will take it into account.

Apparently I am now wearing a scarlet letter and a target, and should watch what I say all the time, as my motives are now in question. That is your view, and I am saddened by that. I'll keep it in mind.

Thus endeth the lesson for me.

This month's articles for cleanup

This month the articles for cleanup have a bunch that have a reason of changing long comma-ed lists to bulleted. I started out doing them (I can do it semi-mechanically by pasting into a text editor and doing a replace and make them multi-column) but as I do more of them I wonder if it is really an improvement. I've been going through your recent edits but you so much (excellent) work that I'm having trouble finding something to see to where I can answer your question. Ahead of that, and to get more input than just mine, you should think about asking at a village pump. I'm not sure which one would be best but the WP:VPIL or the WP:VPM would be a place to start. Thanks RJFJR. The bulleted lists are a definite improvement. As to the column situation that can be tricky and opinions will differ between editors. For me a list of less then ten items only needs one column. After that I'm okay with two columns but I would hold off using three or four columns until you get lists that are 50 items and over. For my eye the more columns that get used the more the info gets a bit too smooshed together and, thus, harder to read. The documentation is quite clear as is current WP:CONSENSUS. If you have to read the same name over and over again at the top of the article then that is the way it goes. Bare URL inside MI issue

First of all, Thank you for all the tireless contribution of cleaning bare URLs.

Since the day you suggested not using a bare URL tag inside MI, I had taken utmost care of not doing so. But the gadget Twinkle has a bug that automatically groups the tag into MI sometimes. I had reported the bug on Twinkle's talk page here. Please bear till the bug gets resolved.

Problems with relink?

Hi RJFJR. Yep reflinks is down - since Saturday. I posted about it here Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)#Can anyone find out what is going on?. Since it is being maintained in parts unknown there is no way to find out what is going on or when it might be fixed. I'm trying it a couple times a day to see if it is working. Add to that the fact that refill2 went down several hours ago and we are 95% sunk. I've been using citer on articles with just a few bare urls but that is labor intensive since it only fixes one ref at a time. Fingers crossed that things return to normal soon. Cheers. In reference to the most recent article I tagged for bare URLs, Crimea, I was glancing for information when I came across [2] and [3] display tags that weren't superscript; mouseovering the refs confirmed these as bare URLs. I didn't notice the [1] display tag until after you had removed the template; curiously, when I mouseovered this one, it displayed as a bare URL, but I can't find any evidence of this in the article's revision history. In retrospect, I had multiple display tabs open, and likely meant the PDF bare URL [49] presently in § Ukrainian Republic (de jure since 1991, de facto 1991–2014) (the TOC section was highlighted in my browser); I will fix this one myself. You caught the bare URL in § Russian Federation (de facto since 2014), which I had missed.

No worries Onel5969. reflinks has been down since Friday and refill2 went down a couple days later. Sadly, there seems to be no way to find out what is going on as they aren't being maintained by anyone at wikipedia :-( I'm soldiering on using citer but, since it only fixes one at a time, it is a labor intensive task and I'm getting a titch burned out. Recently, I had marked a few articles with bare URL tags. Kindly recheck the below 6 articles.

2. United Nations Please check reference no. 215 to 218 & many more.
3. List of specialized agencies of the United Nations Please check reference no. 7, 17, 19

5. Secretary-General of the United Nations Please check reference no. 13, 15 & many more.
6. List of G20 summits Please check reference no. 78, 79, 80, 81

Hello Ninney. I am not sure what you are asking. The references you list are in cite templates. If you feel they are incorrect or need changing then that is a task you will have to take on yourself. All I am doing is using the tools available to move bare urls into cite templates. BTW two of the three tools that do that work are down and the third one can only do one reference at a time. Ninney here is one of the ones that you list <ref>[http://www.theutenberg.se/pdf/the_holy_see_the_order_of_malta_and_international_law.pdf The Holy See, the Order of Malta and International Law], Bo J. Theutenberg, {{ISBN|91-974235-6-4}}</ref>. This one (and the others) meet the criteria at WP:CITE and fall under the classification of "manually formatted." They have the info needed to search in a web archive should they go dead. There are times when they will even have have more info then they will if formatted by refill or reflinks. Yep RJFJR. I think there is another country or two that it is working as well. That just makes the whole thing more frustrating. I am trying to think where we might make more people aware of the problem. Maybe a mention in the Signpost would get editors involved than the talk page thread or the VPT. Please be patient S. I'm not ignoring you. Vangelis music is excellent and really adds to the power of the film. Other soundtracks that are enhanced by his work include Chariots of Fire and The Bounty (1984 film). Thanks RJFJR. It started yesterday thankfully. Reflinks was gone for a year or more and then we got it back for what - four or five weeks? Since it makes formatting PDFs so much easier (as well as tagging many dead links) I would love to have it going again but I'm not holding out much hope. Cheers. Of the many fond memories of my time there Victuallers I'll share one. I backpacked along the east shore of Loch Ness and stayed two nights at a cute little hotel in Foyers. Washington Post access

On White people you asked about my access to Washington Post - I just clicked on the link. I've got no subscription, but the intro page says that without subscription you can read a limited number of articles per month. I accepted their cookies, and since I visit them only every few weeks, I suppose that my access to the article was included in that limited number. I have no idea what you are on about. Revert means revert and that is what I did. BTW the order is 1)Revert 2)Block and 3)Ignore, Furthermore it states "Revert the vandalism on the page, so it appears in its pre-vandalised state" and there is no wording regarding any limitation of the number of times that the reverting should occur. I have just quoted you the part of the page you are referring to, and it clearly states when this order may not be optimal. Hello Bangabandhu. That article showed up in the Category:Pages using infobox person with unknown parameters under the letter N which means either the "nationality" field or the "notable works" one was causing the problem. Removal got the page out of the cat. I am trying something else to see if a different fix will work. And after a lot of tinkering I tracked down that the problem was with the "name" field. If you find a page in such a cat, edit section 0 (assuming that's where the infobox is) and without making any changes, preview it. You'll get red error messages like

Warning: Page using Template:Infobox person with unknown parameter "name          " (this message is shown only in preview).

so it's a parameter with the word name in it. This is not a param that is actually named |name=, I can tell this because of the long gap between the word name and the following double quote. That gap contains non-breaking spaces, which the MediaWiki parser is assuming are part of the param name. The fix is to delete all spaces between the word name and the equals sign, then if you want to space it out again, use plain spaces. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 19:32, 23 April 2021 (UTC)
