It really is a wonderful cast. Local Hero is one of my all time favorite films. Dead Head was the first thing (not counting the Star Wars films) that I saw Denis Lawson in after that and it confirmed my feeling that he is a marvelous actor. That series never aired over here but I am fairly sure that I saw it in one of the DVD catalogs that I get so I will have to track down a copy. Pauline Collins has been so good in so many things over the years. I still have an affection for the work that she did with hubby John Alderton in things like No, Honestly and Wodehouse Playhouse. I am sure you will enjoy it. Davies is often underestimated over here — no doubt due to his excellent performance as the only permanent panel member on QI ("quite interesting").
You are clearly a BBC fan, like me. I only watch the four main 'beeb' channels and BBC-News ... never any of the numerous commercial stations, much to the irritation of my wife.
Correction: World Cup 2011 in New Zealand was covered by ITV. So that was an exception to the rule! Cheers! –

Hi Redrose!
I know ... obviously used to watch ITV for Morse and The Sweeney, but since the relaxation on advertising intrusion I just become so irritated with the more frequent and much longer interruptions that the enjoyment becomes less and less. I should have added to my remark above,"live TV", of course now that I have a brand-new TiVo box courtesy of Virgin since February 26.
Just checked this out and I can catch up all five episodes. Many thanks Redrose for pointing out the series to me.

I don't watch ITV in real time anymore. I have a Humax PVR-9300T; and once the prog starts, I hit "pause" and go and do something else. After 15-20 minutes, I can go back and hit "play" on the Humax box, and fast-forward through the breaks: eight presses of the button advances it four minutes, which is the length of a typical ITV or C4 break. --Redrose64 (talk) 11:49, 15 April 2013 (UTC)

Yes, the TiVo can take me back to when I started watching the programme too. Also I am able to record two channels simultaneously whilst watching a third on either live TV or On Demand, or record three channels AND watch a programme that I have previously recorded. Ha! The only difficulty is that there are never enough hours available in any day to watch more than a fraction of what you would like to –

See what I miss by being 7 hours into your past :-) That being able to fast forward/skip through commercial is a joy. I know the technology will out pace them in the next few years but I do still get shows I want to see more than once on DVDs. Endeavor is being released next month and "no commercial breaks", "no annoying stuff at the bottom or the side of the episode" added to the fact that there is no knowing when the series will air on PBS or BBCA are all big pluses. Fair point, but with it being available for 28 days on itvPLAYER (whereas BBC iPlayer only allows 7 days) I can still watch it and not even have to fast-forward because the commercials are omitted from the catch up service. Makes you wonder though how advertisers will put up with their costly creations being avoided by viewers whenever possible and how the commercial TV companies will survive –

I hope that you both have seen - or will get to see - the pilot episode of this series from January of last year. Shaun Evans recreated some of John Thaw's physical quirks in subtle manner that is quite marvelous. There were several other references to the original series and the tribute that comes right at the end - well all I can say is I did choke up a little when I saw it. Looks like 2015 will be a fun year since England will be hosting the World Cup in Sept and Oct with some games being held in Cardiff! Specifically for James Hill (British director) and Ken Swofford. I more or less 'cobbled' both articles together from a handful of internet sources and would like to see them improve. For example there's no personal data on Hill. (I contacted Virginia McKenna through her NPO, but she was unable to help.) Here are a couple ideas for your specific question but be aware these are just one persons thoughts - you may get completely different ones at the links I mentioned. We don't often have articles about two different people who worked in collaboration (though a few exist) as with the Levinson & Link page. It would likely be best if any information in that article be split into the articles for each person individually - if it isn't already there - and then have the L & L article deleted. There collaboration can be mention in both the Richard Levinson and William Link articles in detail - and I notice that it is already mentioned in the ledes. As to Comden and Green the same idea applies. In any articles where they are mentioned you just link the names separately ala Betty Comden & Adolph Green. I hope that this is of some help and I apologize if it only makes things more confusing. Again there will be other editors who can give assistance at the links provided. Cheers. About Filmography

Any films from the past can be added. Especially if there is an existing wikiarticle for said film. If there isn't a wikiarticle it is a good idea to add a reference so that your edit isn't removed as unsourced. But please don't use IMDb - I know that can be frustrating but they are not a reliable source and they do have some film entries on their site that are complete hoaxes. If it is an upcoming film the preference is to mention it in the body of the article until a confirmed release date is set, Then it can be moved to the filmography. I hope that this is of some help. You are welcome. As to your question I don;t have an answer. The more I looked at it the weirder it seemed. The only thing I can say is that the bulk of C's edits are just cosmetic changes to user space trinkets. The few to articles that I looked at seemed innocuous. We get that kind of thing from time to time. C' leaving you a message just because you had left a welcome message on an IPs talk page shows that the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition "No good deed ever goes unpunished" still applies. Cheers. The White Flower 1923

Hi MarnetteD, in regards to the ebay poster, first I am not a linguist. In creating the article I wanted an easy to find piece of visual artwork(usually a poster) that survived from this film. For it is a lost film. The poster most certainly is of The White Flower as director Julia Crawford Ivers name is prominent in the credits and it's the only island themed film she made with Betty Compson. The title Havaii Pigen tranlates into Hawaii Pigeon in something called Hawaii Creole English. This is what results from an AOL/Netscape search of the term (AOL/NetscapeISP). Your question was very interesting in that it revealed that the lobby poster is sort of local language advertisement which makes sense as the movie was filmed entirely in Hawaii. Hey I saw your recent edits on Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts taking awards out of their infobox, I'm not arguing the edit but you stated it was due to MoS of actors, can you state where it says that? Just so I can have it for future reference :) Thanks Lady Lotus (talk) 14:09, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

We may have to raise this at the film project talk page. Circa 06-07 we were putting awards in the infobox. Then there was a discussion that it was inherently POV to only put some awards in rather than all - that lead to something like 20 fields being added. Then a year or so later it was decided to remove them all as we were getting infobox bloat and the were better handled in a) the body of the article or b) in their own separate article like the one for Meryl Streep. At another point the "actor infobox" was merged into the "person infobox" which caused various problems. I don't know that any of this ever got codified into a policy or guideline page as I say this was all five years or so ago and - many apologies - I am short of time due to off wiki to go digging into the archives. You might ask Erik (talk · contribs) as he has a good memory for these things. As I said, and since consensus can change, we might want to get new input. I would still be against shoehorning the comedian award box into the infobox the way that one editor was doing but we might put a link in the infobox to the awards section of a given article or, again as with MS, the separate article. I certainly don't have a problem with not having awards in the infobox, but when you make an edit like this, please put a link in the summary for explanation and verification. It takes a bit to learn what can and what cannot be used to provide a source here at Wikipedia. One place that addresses this specific situation is here WP:USERGENERATED. I am glad that you found a source that we can use but understand that per WP:BURDEN it is up to you to provide that source. MarnetteD | Talk 18:36, 18 May 2013 (UTC)

When you add personal statistics such as birthdates to biography articles you need to include a reliable source to allow for verification of the material. Reverting another editor's edit with a clear edit summary as to why the material is being removed is not impolite, it's part of the editing cycle of Wikipedia so you shouldn't take offense when it happens. Our policy with regard to living persons is one of the most strict policies here, so please review the policy if you intend to edit additional biography articles and ensure you are stating your sources when adding material. As I stated in one of my edit summaries it is a long time consensus that IMDB does not meet reliable sourcing criteria for personal statistics in biography articles (see Wikipedia:External links/Perennial websites#IMDb and WP:IMDB/RS). Please do review the reliable sources guidelines prior to adding any additional sources to the article; if after reading the guidelines and policies you are unsure as to whether a particular website meets our criteria you can always ask on the talk page, the reliable sources noticeboard. Note for my talk page watchers

Thought I'd leave this here rather than go to each of your pages, especially now that we have our handy dandy notification if I link your names. I started viewing the new episodes of Endeavour (TV series) this weekend and I can highly recommend it to any who might be interested. I think the series can be appreciated on its own merits but for those of us who appreciate Morse the way they are seeding in characters and plot elements from that series make it that much more exciting to watch. Drmargi it is scheduled to air on Masterpiece later this summer but I think you will want to have the DVDs for repeated viewings. Redrose64 after all the episodes of Morse and Lewis as well as the other series filmed in Oxford I am still amazed at the locations that they find. The rooftop used for the climax of episode two (Fugue) is just gorgeous and adds to the impact of that story. They end this episode with an interchange between Morse and Thursday that is moving and emotional. I hope that you enjoyed/will enjoy it. MarnetteD | Talk 21:50, 20 May 2013 (UTC)

One other DVD that arrived

Gareth I hope that you can find Endeavour either on DVD or through you cable system. It is always great to see it without commercials or the other stuff they clutter up the picture with. I also got to watch the Jonathan Creek special. As opposed to several of the reviews I saw I quite enjoyed it. I'll admit it that I was thrown a bit by the events that had occurred in Jonathan life since we last saw him but I would not fault Remnick for moving the character on from the way that he had been in the regular series. I read that they may produce three new episodes and I gotta say that I wouldn't mind seeing Maddie or Carla again for old times sake but I know that is just wishful thinking. Stirling Range

Per this edit [3], would you care to explain on what grounds you think an article should contain speculation on whether non-existent rain gauges would have been affected by climate change? Even if the material was apparently removed by "a POV warrior who was also willing to sock to violate WP:POINT", it doesn't alter the fact that it shouldn't have been there in the first place. It is not only unsourced, it is entirely irrelevant. I am 'not' going to put a 'citation needed' tag on it, because it quite plainly doesn't need citation - it needs deletion. More seriously, I've started a discussion at MOS:TV to incorporate a version of WP:FILMRATING. Given the DRN outcome and the apparent consensus in favor of minimizing if not eliminating the parental ratings from articles, I don't think additional voices are needed there, but at the same time there hasn't been a lot of feedback either. Your call, really, though if it stayed dormant for a full week I was planning to implement the change. I'd hate to be accused of whining to another editor/trying to enlist another co-conspirator/using my amazing coercive powers to psychically influence another poor, defenseless editor. (eye-roll)

No problem at all. I am glad to listen as venting is better than bottling it up. I will take a look though I am not sure if I have a strong opinion one way or the other. The one thing that is wrong is AD86's comments about you. "Comment on content and not the contributor" should come up in big red letters whenever anyone hits the edit command on any talk page. I find that scanning through User:Antandrus/observations on Wikipedia behavior and User:KillerChihuahuas user page can help when frustrations build. Hang in there and cheers. When I'm not busy being irritated by how they've been allowed to go after me I'm concerned that the lack of consequences they've faced so far (and this is after they were blocked previously for this kind of behavior) will only lead them to believe that their behavior is acceptable, and possibly lead to some other editor finding themselves a target farther down the line.

I am so sorry that you are having to put up with this nonsense. I feel a bit caught betwixt and between. If I comment you will be open to accusations of canvassing and I wouldn't want to make things worse. I am glad to see Betty's comment on ANI as it is direct and to the point. The situation on the AGoS's talk page stinks to high heaven. There are at least four WP:SPAs commenting there. The fact that they geolocate to addresses all over the world makes me more suspicious of sock/meat puppetry not less. Nowadays it is much easier for a person to cover their tracks by bouncing their ISP all over the place. Now, my suspicions don't go as far as thinking AD is the sock master. That editors showing up looks to be more of an opportunistic "I can make trouble now" situation. Here are some suggestions for the future.

1. The minute something like this starts post a "Request for input" on the appropriate Wikiproject talk page (in this case the FilmProject.) These don't always get a response but at least you will have tried.
2. Next request a WP:3O and after that a WP:RFC. Next up is the time consuming WP:DR but, hopefully, things will be taken care of then.
3. This one is drastic but you can always do this User talk:Antandrus/observations on Wikipedia behavior#Here is another possible addition when the stress gets to be too much.

Now, except for the last one, I am sure you are already aware of these so my apologies for if I cause any offense by mentioning them. It is just that I know you to be a good editor who has Wikipedia's best interests at heart. All to often the AGF that we are to extend to new editors is not returned to those of us who have toiled for years. Hang in there. I'm honestly not sure whether it would constitute canvassing or not if you chimed in at ANI, but I'll try to make it as clear as possible and say that I wouldn't mind seeing you post there but am not asking you to do so. That said, I completely understand if you want to keep entirely out of it and just be a sounding board. You should only get involved there if you want to get involved there.

FWIW, this time around people seem to be taking it a bit more seriously, probably because this time it's more clear that AD86 went out of their way to engage me (despite having claimed to want nothing more to do with me). I've asked that if they do decide I deserve any manner of negative repercussion that they please explain their reasoning (and how I can do better next time in their opinion), as aside from perhaps overreacting initially it's my opinion that I largely followed the recommendations I was given for how to proceed, and so far the only person who seems to have a substantial issue with it is AD86...which is shocking of course.

It would probably help my own dealings if I hadn't already had an RFC previously go horribly, horribly awry (Talk:Synchronous motor), another situation where things got escalated to ANI, and another situation where people miscast it as a content rather than conduct dispute. Oy vey.

Anyway, another IP editor chimed in with some amazingly sensible thoughts regarding the situation at AGoS including a source from the LA Times. That's a substantial improvement over matters to that point, so maybe things are improving now, both at ANI and AGoS.

Thus far I'm reasonably content with the course of the ANI investigation. Honestly, I would have been happy enough if Retrolord's closure had gone through as long as AD86 knocked it off, which I hope I've made clear has been my bottom line from the beginning of this whole situation (them never treating another editor in the same manner would be a perk). As it is AD86's trademark verbosity and continuing tendency to misrepresent what actually occurs appears to simply be digging their hole deeper, which as I'm sure you can imagine suits me fine. Request for comment

Hi Marnette, I wonder if I could request your eyes and thoughts on Horrible Histories (2009 TV series). Editor Coin945 has been seized by the desire to work it up to FA and embarked on a major overhaul. The edits he is making seem to be in good faith, but he is ignoring comments (pleas) on the article talk page and his user page. He says he is not reading them because he is too busy working up the article. He dislikes sandboxes and is taking the approach that he (alone) will fling all he has at the article and fix things like mark up, spelling and MOS later. He has reverted my edits without discussion and is not addressing points brought up on the talk page. I have told him that he is getting perilously close to disruptive editing and owning as he is ignoring all comers. Getting him blocked is not my intention, I just want him to slow down and start listening to others. The article is moving away from FA, in my opinion, not towards it. Hi DM. I was at a friends birthday barbecue last night and, since there were too many things to DVR like Copper and Mad Men, I skipped Lewis. Thinking back to when I watched the DVD a few months ago I don't remember scenes like the one you describe but that could be a faulty memory banks problem. I think they just let the fact that they had, as you point out, played this out over the last 6 years be the build up. Are they still doing the red letters that spell out something in the Masterpiece version of the credits? Your comment about a redirect was well made. As did Eric, I looked for sources, found enough, but determined they are all about Exclusive Media Group hiring Burr Steers to direct a film... adapted by William Broyles and Stephen Harrigan from Conn Iggulden's first two novels of his Empire series. So I added added two sourced sentences over at Burr Steers#Career AND a mention of a proposed adaptation of his work over at Conn Iggulden#Emperor series film adaptation. As the title "Emperor: Young Caesar" is a searchable term and, as the available coverage is more to do with Steers being hired by Exclusive Media to direct (whether he ever does so or not, he has cashed the check), and less about the Conn Iggulden's novel series, I think a redirect of that title to the director's article makes more sense than would a redirect to the novel's author. I suppose everything can be found in Wiki itself, e.g. Crassus really was a general, tycoon and politician, really fought and crushed Spartacus, really was made consul after that. Or Varinia really was Spartacus' wife, Lentulus really was the gladiators school owner etc... We can also find brothers Gracchi & their deeds in Wiki. Please read WP:OR and WP:SYNTHESIS. Your post to the article as it stood was your interpretation of the historical events. Next please note that the film is not a documentary as with most historical films there will be differences from real events. Usually due to time constraints or for dramatic storytelling reasons. Having said that if you can find a WP:RS commenting on the historical accuracy then it can be added to the article as a reference. The BFI link that you provided does not meet that test as it makes no mention of the accuracy at all. I can't speak to the google books link as the pages were blank when I clicked on it. One suggestion is to post that link on the talk page for the film and ask if it is sufficient. That will allow other editors to check on whether it meets wikipedia's standards or not. Welcome back! I was about to go to your talk page and leave a message. I am not sure about the edit summary situation. While you were gone they did add a "visual editor" to the system but I know next to nothing about using it so I just soldier on with the old way of editing. Village pump (technical) is probably the place to head to for an answer. None of my cable stations showed any of the Lions tour down under so I followed it through various online news reports. Instead, you get a default edit summary which ends with the words "new section" - as here. Those two fields still seem to be in "Blank template with all parameters" at Template:Infobox person, so I'm not sure where the issue now stands. I am not vandalising nor disruptively editing

Hi. The reason I edited part of Gina's bio is because it had no relevance whatsoever to the programme "Big Brother UK" or Gina's time in the house. It is neither vandalism nor test editing, as it is evidently clear that the bio has been written by someone with a vendetta against this particular housemate and I have edited out the unnecessary parts due to a number of complaints on various online big brother forums, stating that this particular part of the bio was unnecessary and had no relevance to the show, and was clearly put into her bio just to make her look bad and give her a negative persona. There have also been questions asked as to why Gina's questionable lifestyle has been posted in her bio but Dexter's questionable lifestyle hasn't? Ok, hope that clears everything up. You need to make that case on the talk page and then other editors will work towards a consensus per WP:BRD. Continued removal until that consensus is settled on is disruptive and you can be blocked for that. MarnetteD | Talk 23:24, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
