A battle won?

The AfD failed, I knew it would (I did, I really did :-). An AfD must have a consensus to delete. The information itself is notable and widely referenced and so could not be deleted only merged and AfD is not a forum nor a mandate for merging.

Well done on some of your args. The WAX and UGLY cites were great, you did your home work. I will have to remember those.

BUT!! No the real question is back. Should the article be merged? I am still undecided. I can understand the technical POV but (which is far from clear) I want to consider the POV of the users (same interface same options, does my chess program etc run (no don't recreate the list)), the application developer (does my code compile/run for 64?) systems developer (how do I make my network card, graphics card, nuclear pile monitoring and control apparatus work for 64). I also tend to think there's a case that, regardless of the other issues, a non-techie reader would want to find 64 specific info in one concise article rather than searching for it with in a generic artilce. I will copy this to the article talk page if/when the debate restarts.

Thanks, Triwbe. The battle was unnecessary though, and it was a Pyrrhic victory. One of the most valuable writers on this subject is now alienated. This could have been so much easier in 10 different ways. Anyway, now begins the process of cleaning it up, fleshing it out. I have a couple more ideas for sections, such as "how can a person find out if software works or not", or some such thing. In my experience, getting software to work is sometimes difficult. It is definitely not for newbies. To get GBPVR [1] to work on 64 bits, I had to take apart it's installation routine, and manually place the files into the right directory. Wow64 did not get the Visual Basic runtime files into the correct directory, nor the program files. Not only did I have to place them in the right place, but I had to register them for 64 bits, using an "UAC elevated" command prompt. This was nontrivial, and I doubt that Joe Schmoe from Pasadena is going to be able to do it. Installing on 32 bits was trivial. --Marcwiki9 (talk) 00:46, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
