Editing help

edit

Marci, please review the above information, but in addition to that, I'd like to offer you some pages to help you understand Wikipedia and how editing works. For your review, the following pages will be quite helpful in learning the ropes and quirks of Wikipedia: Cite your sources, Manual of style, Layout guide, First article, Article development and How to edit. Hope that is helpful! ArielGold 22:10, 10 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You tube

edit

Marci, for the most part, You tube videos are not allowed. This is for a number of reasons, but most importantly, that the majority of them violate copyright laws of the United States and Florida. Additionally, per the external links guideline, any link that forces a user to have external application software to verify or view it, is not advised. This includes links to video, and audio formats. I'd suggest that instead, the link simply be placed on Marci's own personal website, and that way, someone who does wish to dig deeper and visit the site, can do so and find it that way. Hope that explains things! ArielGold 21:18, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, its a shame because it was a gem, ill have to study it and try to get some facts fro it

What would be best is to get whatever items Marci talked about on the video from a reliable source article, and then cite that. ArielGold 21:45, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
I removed your addition of the {{hangon}} template, the CSD was removed, it is not up for deletion via speedy deletion anymore, due to the sources added and the work that was done. This isn't to say it cannot be nominated for deletion, but there's no need for the hangon template. ArielGold 22:05, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

oh thanks, im new so dont know whats going on, i want to be safe that it isnt going to be deleted. I am trying to learn how to use wiki but itll take a while.Marci Bowers Helper 22:09, 11 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletes

edit

Referring to the message you left on my talk page. I realise that as a new editor you won't yet know the way things work. You complained that I didn't give you chance to complete the article. Actually you had all the time in the world. What you don't appear to understand is that as soon as you click "save" the article goes live and has to meet the requirements of WP from the word go. The recommended way of creating a new article is to either use your sandbox, keep using the preview changes button, or to create an article in a sub folder in your userspace, then when, and only when, it's ready to go live you transfer it into the main article space. There really is no reason, or excuse, to create an article in article space that doesn't meet the guidelines. At the time I placed the CSD tag the article did not pass muster. It wasn't my fault you didn't have the article ready, that I'm afraid is all down to you. I hope you enjoy the rest of your time in Wikipedia. ---- WebHamster 22:53, 11 October 2007 (UTC) Oh i see, sorry about that, im spending the next while learning to use that complicated thing.Ive learnt how to stamp, lolMarci Bowers Helper 11:08, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Context

edit

MBH, I've removed the following line from the article: "Marci has just switched television production companies due to the fact that they concentrated on the "gore" and operations." The article does not mention any television production, or explain why Bowers would need to change companies, so without context, this line makes little sense to the reader. I'd like it if you could find a reference to give the statement context. Remember, we must adhere to the biographies of living persons policy, so basically anything added to the article must be sourced by a reference. Also, I'm curious, and would like to ask what your association with Bowers is, are you a family member, friend, employee, or not at all associated with her, but just chose the name to help the article? Cheers, ArielGold 19:45, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

does a email from the woman herself count?, lol Marci Bowers Helper 19:51, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hee hee, no. See WP:SELF. ArielGold 19:54, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

ahh its written no where else. its just happened, and shes a friend, she helped me through hard times.

Ahh, well, please keep in mind the above mentioned conflict of interest guideline, and when editing, make sure you strive to remain neutral with what you add. You've done a good job of that so far, so don't take the reminder as anything but that, just a reminder. Hopefully more info can be found, but I did a fairly exhaustive search when re-writing the article, and added everything I found. ArielGold 20:10, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Darn, there must be more, how about adding pics? Marci Bowers Helper 20:29, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Unless you own the copyright to the images, they can't be uploaded. See the image use policy and Help:Images for more info. Also, edits like this must be backed up by sources, per the WP:BLP policy. Especially when claiming the person is listed in "America's best". If that's true, it will be published. That needs a reference. Also, I've copy-edited the other additions for spelling and grammar. ArielGold 20:47, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Permission from a web mistress? and that statement came from her website/ Marci Bowers Helper 20:53, 12 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi again! Hee hee. Unfortunately, anything on her web site isn't a reliable, third party source. That's a self-reference basically, it is the subject talking about herself, which can't be done for the reasons explained in those links. Also, I've had to remove this edit [1], as commentary in articles is not appropriate. I understand this must all be quite frustrating and seem really odd, but there is a manual of style that you can review that may help clear up some of the basics, basically things like "see this link for more info" or "click here to see pictures" or items like that aren't appropriate for an encyclopedia article. I've put that link into a footnote citation (any time you see blue letters, click on them to learn more) and have added some of that info to the article. Cheers! Inline citations

edit

When adding an inline citation this is what you do...

  1. Find the point in the text where you want to add the citation (after the period for the sentence you're citing).
  2. At that point add <ref> </ref>.
  3. Then inside the ref tag add the citation template tag, e.g.

    <ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.colostate-pueblo.edu/news/releases05/090.htm |title=colostate |accessdate=2007 |format= |author= |publisher= }}</ref>

The details you use will show up at the bottom of the page where there will be a {{Reflist}} or <references/> tag. So when completing the citation make sure there is a descriptive title in the template.

Gave your page some color

Let me know if you like it or not, and if you'd like to archive the old topics, we can do that, as well. Cheers! ArielGold 21:47, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

wow i love it, how about the user page? lol, sorry for the work. Marci Bowers Helper 16:51, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is no work at all, I'll do the same for your userpage. ArielGold 22:16, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again. Marci Bowers Helper 22:18, 16 October 2007 (UTC) Simple but cool, i like it, now to add some text... Marci Bowers Helper 22:20, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're very welcome. I've added hidden comments that will show you where to place additional text. Just place the text between the two hidden comments. :o) And let me know if you would like to archive the old discussions and/or set up automatic archiving, I'll take care of that as well for you if you wish. All this pic business is confusing...

edit

its doing my head in... lol Marci Bowers Helper 22:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

LOL Yeah it can be quite complicated at first. Heck, some image issues still confuse me a bit, so don't feel bad, lol. ArielGold 22:27, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

well im emailing jude her webmistress now so hopefully itll be a good reply, so Could she add a sentence stateing the pic can be used by wiki? Marci Bowers Helper 22:29, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

She should add the sentence to Marci's personal website, below the image you'd like to upload, that states something like "Permission given to the Wikimedia Foundation to use this image on Wikipedia", or something like that. I'm sure they will understand the copyright issues fully, so just explain that you need permission officially to use the image per copyright policy. ArielGold 22:31, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just emailed so ill tell you in a couple of days hopefully, i should get off my backsde and do some research for the article, lol thanks for everything Marci Bowers Helper 22:36, 16 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
