your supposed "volume/area" ratio: Sorry for the misunderstanding, the slash means "or", as in "three-dimensional or two-dimensional space".

"other limiting factors" ... "doesn't rule out space as limiting factor": I don't understand your reasoning here. You have yet to provide an example of an ecosystem where space, rather than some other resource, determines the saturation level.

"Please devolve your dollar to the Wikipedia project.": You might want to catch that bear before you sell its hide. ;)
