User: SPUI and SFD edit

Hi Mairi - SFD might be having a bit of a problem with SPUI. After seeing that his comments about several of the redirects up for deletion weren't likely to be in the majority, he's decided that SFD shouldn't have anything to do with redirects and been emoving all listings from the page. I've reverted him three times, so far today - it's be a help if someone else could also keep an eye on him... Grutness...wha? 01:10, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'll keep an eye on the page... --Mairi 01:16, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
I see he's also removed the SFD notice from all the redirects listed on SFD, time to revert that... Mairi 01:21, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - looks like this is going to develop into a bigger fight, though. I've had someone from RFD asking about why SFD is deleting redirects on my talk page. Grutness...wha? 05:24, 22 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Scatr99 edit

Actually no I didn't mean to add that video to that page. Fixed, thanks for the heads up.

Your deletion of {{bike-stub}} edit

Please do not replace Wikipedia pages or sections with blank content. It is considered vandalism. Please use the sandbox for any other tests you want to do. Take a look at the welcome page if you would like to learn more about contributing to our encyclopedia. Thanks. --SPUI (talk) 00:18, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

It was initially deleted via WP:SFD, and then repeatedly under WP:CSD G4. If you wish it to be undeleted, please use the proper procedures on WP:VFU. --Mairi 02:06, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
SFD is for deletion of stubs, not redirects. If you wish it to be deleted, please use the proper procedure on WP:RFD. --SPUI (talk) 04:40, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply
SFD has been, since it's very creation, also for stub redirects. See the first log from there, where there were 4 redirects listed on the second day that were deleted. Furthermore, WP:VFU is for the undeletion of any page, including those out of process (which is the first reason in Wikipedia:Undeletion policy). Do not recreate it again without going thru WP:VFU. --Mairi
That was a bastardization of what SFD was intended for. VFU is for undeletion. I do not need undeletion, as I can simply retype the line. --SPUI (talk) 05:12, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I just realized the original discussion wasn't even about deleting a redirect. Fuck you. --SPUI (talk) 05:20, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Then surely it was properly deleted. And redirecting it when the reasons for deletion included "it duplicates {{cycling-stub}}", also that it's ambiguous, goes against the consensus on WP:SFD. --Mairi 05:28, 25 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Bots edit

I'm wondering... is it hard for someone with little programming experience to set up a bot with the pywikipedia framework? Please respond on my talk page. Thanks, Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 05:03, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'd like for it to do some of the repetitive tasks I do on Wikipedia... like adding WikiProject templates, doing the U.S. Highways in x classification, etc. Besides, it is cool :) --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 06:11, 31 October 2005 (UTC)Reply

Regarding {{Stub need image}} edit

Thanks for letting me know about this - unfortunately no one let me know when the votes for deletion was going on, so I couldn't offer my input. I basically would've used Reqimage if I knew about it. But now I know about it - thank for letting me know  :) FranksValli 07:43, 7 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Very cool! I just noticed that you updated the 2 articles that had my old template - much appreciated, thanks  :) FranksValli 07:58, 7 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

{{State park-stub}} -> {{US-geo-stub}} edit

Hi Mairi. I just removed {{US-geo-stub}} from an article hit by User:Mairibot because it already had {{Calif-geo-stub}}. If there are a lot to convert, you might want to update your bot to try to avoid adding redundant categories. Mike Dillon 05:12, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

This is bound to happen a few times, but it should be picked up quickly. I'd estimate there are about 30-50 stubs that this will be a problem for, and given how quickly these are being re-sorted it shouldn't be much extra work. Grutness...wha? 05:28, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
(After an edit conflict with Grutness's response) I think his response answers the question - I'll just point out that the idea of renaming as such was suggested by him on WP:SFD, and that's the only reason it's being done by bot that way. --Mairi 05:35, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
(follow-up) In the last half hour I've changed 50 of these US-geo-stubs to their individual state stubs (I'm stopping for a while - my hands are tired!) Of those 50, only four were double-stubbed in this way. Given that there are 350 state park stubs being changed over, my estimate was probably on the high side. Another advantage of doing it this way is that I can change the Calif-geo-stub to the correct California-geo-stub at the same time! Grutness...wha? 05:59, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. Mike Dillon 16:18, 9 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

California County Route stubs edit

I don't think we were looking at the same page then. Because the [1] list for this topic I saw had no consensus either way as it was 4 votes for capitalization anf 4 for lowercase. The only consensus was for hyphens. And as a proper noun per WP:STYLE it should be capitalized anyway regardless if consensus had gone against the capitalized version.Gateman1997 23:46, 10 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry but 62.5% is not consensus. Supermajority which as you know is 66.6% is consensus.Gateman1997 00:01, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Also please note that ALL state highway stubs such as California State Highway stubs are capitalized as proper nouns. So by preceedent alone it California County Route should also be capitalized.Gateman1997 00:03, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Well I'm sorry you stepped into the middle of a minefield. We've previously had debates over this very issue and it's gone the other way prior. California County Route was identifed as a proper noun and should be treated as such despite some editors, as has occured in that vote, being ignorant of that fact. As closing editor you have to take that into account as well.Gateman1997 00:09, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Though I totally disagree that that was a consensus decision I will drop it for the time being in the name of fostering community. However we will revisit this issue at a later date.Gateman1997 00:36, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Gateman1997 here... it really wasn't much of a consensus. We had List of California State Routes as well. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:04, 11 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

some more work for Mairibot... edit

Hi Mairi - could I get you to do a null-edit over all articles marked with {{Scotland-bio-stub}}, please? It seems that three weeks ago User:Mais oui! decided that it would be useful to pipe the template so that it appeared at the beginning of the category. Unfortunately, he didn't realise that that would mean that all articles with the category would also go there, and the category is now a random jumble of unalphabetised articles. it's not even possible to see how many articles are in the category, since it means that the "next 200" link doesn't work properly. Grutness...wha? 04:17, 12 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

sigh...he's done the same with {{Wales-bio-stub}}... Grutness...wha? 07:41, 12 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
sigh. I'll get {{Wales-bio-stub}} done tonight, since it's smaller, and do {{Scotland-bio-stub}} tomorrow... --Mairi 06:31, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks - I've spoken to Mais oui, who said "whoops!" and that he won't do it again. Grutness...wha? 10:00, 14 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok, Scotland-bio-stub is finally done, after several aborted attempts due to wikipedia server problems... hopefully no one else will decide to do that either. --Mairi 05:26, 15 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Peace! edit

{{Islam-bio-stub}} is great , and also {{Islamic-theologian-stub}}. What is {{Islamic-clergy-stub}} good for?

If i have understood it well, {{Islam-bio-stub}} is for non-Theologians, while {{Islamic-theologian-stub}} is for Theologians, so where does {{Islamic-clergy-stub}} fitt in?

When is one a {{Islamic-clergy-stub}} and not a {{Islamic-theologian-stub}} ?

I would also love a {{Islamic-book-stub}}.

Peace! --Striver 08:10, 21 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Peace!
Islam does not have a church like christianity, we have theological scholars, but no pure priests, unless im misstaken... I dont think a Islamic-clergy-stub fills any role. Thanks for the information :) --Striver 04:01, 22 November 2005 (UTC)Reply
Regaiding Islam-book-stub, there several books per Islamic scholar... --Striver 12:23, 22 November 2005 (UTC)Reply

Road stubs edit

I noticed that you changed the stubs... could you please update Wikipedia:WikiProject U.S. Roads with the new names? Then I can run a bot to fix the redirects... Thanks. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 02:20, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Ok, that's updated. {{California State Highway Stub}} still hasn't been closed; and I noticed that {{Texas Highway Stub}} also needs renaming (is there any reason that just has "highway", and not "state highway" like it's main category, and all the other states?) --Mairi 02:47, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I think you saw Washington... I'd say make it {{California-State-Highway-stub}} (but it's at SFD). The Texas one... user Bellhalla is the person who is doing most of the editing so I would contact her/him as to why it's all weird. Hyphens and "stub" are needed at any rate though. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 03:02, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Yep, I did. I'll drop hir a note and find out. If there's a reason to not have "state", I'll just fix it by being bold and renaming it to Texas-Highway-stub, and avoid another messy deletion debate.
As far as the larger issue of capitalization, I think it might be worth taking a look at Category:State highways. Almost all of those use lowercase for "state highways". Unless there's some compelling reason for those to be different than stub categories that share the same scope (and I can't think of any possible reason), one or the other ought to be renamed... --Mairi
Just wondering... so you don't have to have a SFD to rename templates? (But it would start a wildfire if I tried it with the road stubs) --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 03:38, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
One doesn't need to do an SFD if one wants to keep the redirect, and the category is fine how it is. However, normally the redirect gets deleted, or there's also problems with the category. SFD is also better for controversial things (so we don't get move wars) or just to make sure others agree with the move (especially for more heavily used ones). But if you do rename something not thru SFD, just remember to change the entry on WP:WSS/ST. --Mairi 03:56, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I can put my bot on the Texas stubs... either today or tomorrow... or you can use yours if you want. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:33, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
You can go ahead and use yours; I'll have plenty of work coming up soon from SFD. --Mairi 04:37, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Okay, sweet- I need stuff to get experience to get a bot flag. --Rschen7754 (talk - contribs) 04:40, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

{{Template:Texas Highway Stub}} edit

No particular reason it doesn't use "state". What would a more proper/standard name be? If you want to change it, I'll be happy to work on updating pages that use it. Thanks. Bellhalla 04:18, 1 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Argentina-sport-stub edit

You deleted this stub after NO CONSENUS was reached. 3 keep and 4 delete ARE NOT CONSENSUS!

I restored the template/category and plan to restore all links you erased. I used the rollback function for speed, I understand that it wasn't vandalism.

Sebastian Kessel Talk 18:50, 3 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I count 5 deletes (including the nominator) and 3 keep; which, while borderline, I interpreted to be consensus to delete. --Mairi 19:29, 3 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
5-3 is too borderline, I wouldn't have deleted, especially with such few votes. 65% out of 100 votes is one thing, 1 less "delete" and this might've been almost 50-50. OTOH, if the nominator didn't vote, I don't know if we should construe his nomination as a vote, sometimes it is only a proposal, but I might've counted it too.
PS: Pls respond in my talk page, as I don't routinely monitor talk pages. I got this by chance (i forgot to unwatch yours)...
The problem is I didn't see it 5-3. If for RfA's we request the nominator to vote, the same should've been done here. I saw it 4-3, and not knowing it I took it as an abuse of power on your part (I know now that it is not the case, and I apologize), and restored the deletes to avoid going through another round of these for undeletion. It is not very practical to create bureaucracies to undo bureaucracies but I do see your point as to the conflict of interest. Sebastian Kessel Talk 16:19, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

enzyme-stub & enyzme-stub edit

When you get the chance could you please fire up Mairibot on these two. While in my opinion we're likely going to keep {{enzyme-stub}} despite being formed out of process (120 stubs and more apparently to come) before I fixed it, the template fed into three different stub categories and a non-stub category. There's zero chance that the misspelt {{enyzme-stub}} will be kept, but it's used on 10+ of the stubs and while that's a small number, no sense in having them being double restubbed when one restub by the bot will do. Caerwine Caerwhine 05:16, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'll set it working now... --Mairi 05:28, 6 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Category:American politician stubs edit

Sorry about the naming. I just gave them the same name as the cat would have. I'm only a part-time contributor and it will do me no good to propose because I would never get around to following up. If you'll delete the templates though, I'll go ahead and fix those I messed up. Frank101 03:51, 7 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Western-film-stub edit

Could I get Mairibot to restub {Western-film-stub}? It has 26 stubs that are currently catted to the Drama film stubs because that's where the stub used to send them. The stub's finished it's week on the proposals without complaint so I've given it the appropriate category of Western film stubs. Caerwine Caerwhine 20:35, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I'll do that. Mairi 20:40, 8 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

asteroid-stub replacement edit

Heya Mairi,

Thanks muchly for offering to deploy Mairibot last week over on stub sorting to help break up the monstrous Category:Asteroid stubs. I've gone and figured out what categories need to be replaced with which stub, you can sic the bot on the task whenever's convenient for you.

{{asteroid-stub}} → {{innerasteroid-stub}}
All occurrences in:

{{asteroid-stub}} → {{beltasteroid-stub}}
All occurrences in:

{{asteroid-stub}} → {{outerasteroid-stub}}
All occurrences in:

{{asteroid-stub}} → {{centaurTNO-stub}}
All occurrences in:

Again, many thanks in advance. The Tom 05:28, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Mairibot is working away now. Is there any reason for {{beltasteroid-stub}}, you didn't list all the categories in Category:Main Belt asteroids, including that category? --Mairi 06:04, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I manually did a few of those categories, which only contained one or two articles. That said, I rather stupidly omitted the root of Category:Main Belt asteroids from my list above. Can the bot take another run at them? The Tom 06:54, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sure, I can make a run thru that category. I'll also have it go thru Category:Flora asteroids, as it looks like there's still some tagged with {{Asteroid-stub}} in there. --Mairi 07:17, 28 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

{{US-RnB-band-stub}} → {{US-R&B-band-stub}} edit

Hi Mairi

I'm not familiar with Mairibot, but would it be possible to use it to rename all occurrences of {{US-RnB-band-stub}} to {{US-R&B-band-stub}} to bring it in line with its category Category:United States R&B musical group stubs? The background to this is that {{US-RnB-band-stub}} / Category:United States R&B musical group stubs was discovered here [2]. I then proposed that it be kept here [3], stating that I would perform the rename. If it's possible, I'd be grateful if you could do this – no rush, only when you get a chance. If there is any other information you need from me, please ask. Thanks --Bruce1ee 10:29, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sure, I can do that easily enough. --Mairi 20:19, 29 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
I see you've already done it! Great help – thank you very much. --Bruce1ee 05:31, 30 December 2005 (UTC)Reply

Broken stub category edit

Hello Mairi. I'd like to ask some help from you.

{{mil-bio-stub}} included [[Category:Military biographical stubs|*]] among other things. As a result, all newly added articles have the same sort key, and as more than 200 have been added, it's impossible to get to the second and all other pages of Category:Military biographical stubs! (CategoryTOC can be used, though.) I believe I've fixed the template, could you please run Mairibot to null edit the articles so that the category is usable again?

Thank you. Conscious 16:39, 31 December 2005 (UTC)Reply
