Re: Harbour Island

Hello Maias. I respectfully disagree with your edit of the Harbour Island (Bahamas) page to the extent it's been assigned to a disambiguation page. "Harbour Island" is a unique phrase. I can't recall ever seeing any disambiguation in the various articles I've read over the years about Harbour Island where somebody points out the difference between Harbor Island and Harbour Island. Now I'm not a Wikipedia expert by any means and I see you're a major contributor. I would just appreciate learning why you felt this edit was necessary. Thank you for your time! Long term project

Amongst the other hundred of threads that i fantasise about and then neglect is the tasmanian island thing - were you venturing into the brothers et al territory to do more - or was it a once off? cheers SatuSuro 00:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

I was starting at the beginning and gradually working my way through. It is, however, easy to get distracted, and the book has a lot more islands to go. Moreover, though it was published in 2001, many of the surveys it uses data from took place in the 1980s. Well the points you raise are good ones - my materials prior to brothers come from the 1950's and 1960's. While he was still around (since left) we did have someone working on south coast islands - I do have some tasmania south west material from the 70s that i have never worked on on wikipedia - and the bays and rivers and more obscure locations of the south west are virtually untouched - so anything you can do in that area will be appreciated - i hope i can find my stuff sometime and work on it - cheers SatuSuro 09:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Good point; yes, I was thinking of it. It could be useful for navigation purposes. However, while the island names generally have some official status, such as being listed in the Gazetteer of Australia 2006, I am not sure what official status the group names used in Brothers et al have. Also, there is very little info about the groups as such - as opposed to the individual islands. I suppose it would quite simple to put together a list of islands, grouped as in the book, and then link them to the individual articles. I would welcome your opinion on this. Just revisited islands of australia these many weeks later (hey great work on the queensland reserves there!) and think the groups might well be worth doing - but low on the burner for the moment - might check brothers vs geosciences database very very slowly on this issue - cheers SatuSuro 08:04, 24 March 2008 (UTC)

Cheers and thanks - example would be the faure island art - excellent article - and yet bernier and dorre are just as important history and biota wise - so trying to restore some balance for the whole wolrd heritage area and building a hell of a lot more articles - (oh and i havent forgotten my ideas about island groups in tassie - just my distraction rate is up to the same as my teenagers - having holidayed with them at shark bay) SatuSuro 04:09, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

I was thinking of checking with you and a few others - having been seriously considering grouping articles relative to shark bay into a category and am considering the world heritage category which the great barrier reef subcategory as a good example - would you agree with such a clumping? Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Birds Australia logo.gif}

Trawling

Yes, I see what you mean - large number of redlinks to Russian gas fields. I really only did the Yolla gas field stub as a side-effect of doing a disambig for Yolla. I have an interest in the word as it seems to be one of the few Tasmanian Aboriginal words still around, though only just. Maias (talk) 02:02, 24 May 2008 (UTC)

I only wish we had eds with your thoroughness, but they are all migratory stock by looks :( - unfortunately I am not very up with Tas Aboriginal issues or language at the mo - but the slow south west and west coast stub stabs - I will get around to the archaeology over there eventually - actually thinking about it - that might be an art - tas aboriginal words still in place and regional features - but hey on the wish list.
