Thanks Justin. I’d like to change his photo too, but if I choose to use a photo published, say, from the Seattle Times, can I do so if I cite the photographer and link to the source or must I be the creator and create a CC license for the photo used? Maehem (talk) 20:42, 2 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Hi, Mae. Not sure what your relationship is with Bill but it's rough losing a friend/partner/associate/etc. and by all accounts, he's a great guy. I appreciate you trying to make the encyclopedia better and I definitely agree that the photo should be replaced. All photos must be uploaded to our sister site, Commons, which requires an appropriate license, including some Creative Commons ones. Is there any way that I can help you get a better photo here? Also, please use {{Ping|Koavf}} at the beginning of your responses to make sure that I see them. Thanks! ―Justin (koavf)TCM 00:50, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: thank you. Yes. I can use your help. I emailed photographer Karen Moskowitz (karen@moskowitz.com) she took some of my fav photos of Bill. She dropboxed me several times joyous and gave me permission.
Do I forward the email somewhere? Or does she need to email someone. I’ve chosen the photo and have it ready to upload but the appropriate Creative Commons option seemed to indicate she must email. What is that email?
My partner plays in Wilco. We met Bill 5 years ago in Mexico while they were both playing a festival there. Bill gets along famously with Gemini/Taurus/Aries natal chart combos thus the two of us became ‘pen pals’ over that time. I am grateful I became something of a meditative diary to him over that time. Even when he was writing about the seemingly most mundane details of his days, these details never failed to entertain. Maehem (talk) 02:54, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: That should read, she dropboxed me several photos Maehem (talk) 02:55, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Great question and sorry that it's so confusing. By far the easiest way to do this is to have the photographer upload the shot to Flickr and use an appropriate license there. The process of forwarding emails in what is called the "OTRS" system is very cumbersome, unfortunately. :/ Is Flickr an option? If not, we'll get it worked out some other way. Thanks for working with me on this. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 02:59, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: I’ll e-mail this to Karen. I’m sure she’ll accommodate. I think we’re all horrified by the depressing photo. Maehem (talk) 03:04, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Well, I mean... I uploaded the photo. I was just trying my best. :/ As an aside, do you have any interest in working on Wikipedia outside of this photo? ―Justin (koavf)TCM 03:12, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: I’m currently an associate film programmer at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville. Even though our doors are closed we are still producing and hosting virtual projects for our members. If I lose my job there, then yes! Until then, no as I’m obsessively watching films and working on Letterboxd. 🥵
Emailed Karen to see if she’d pick a photo and upload it to Flickr with a CC license. Maehem (talk) 03:23, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
Stay strong and keep on washing your hands. I hope you get to keep a job that you seem to love but I also hope you think that you have some free time for free culture and want to help make Wikipedia better as well. Feel free to direct Karen to me as well if you want to cut out yourself as a middlewoman, Mae. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 03:27, 3 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Koavf: I understandably don’t think Karen is okay publicly sharing her great photos w/o copyright protection.

I did find two on Flickr that are, at least better than the one that is up now. Could you place one of them? Thank you for your help.

Unfortunately, the second photo is not licensed in a way that we can use it on Wikipedia but the first one is and so it is done! Huzzah! When we put our heads together, there is no problem we can't solve, comrade. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:18, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Koavf: Bravo! Muchas gracias* Maehem (talk) 20:24, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply
De na', igual. Let me know if you decide that you want to stick around and get more involved. If not, have a great life. ―Justin (koavf)TCM 20:32, 4 May 2020 (UTC)Reply

Willie Cantu edit

A couple of sources:[1][2]. The second is from Corpus Christi Caller-Times, accessed via something called ProQuest. With topics like these, good sources can sometimes be found, but you have to go beyond google. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 08:23, 13 June 2023 (UTC)Reply

I started it: Willie Cantu
I would urge caution about adding information from your own research.
I am happy to help more and if you share sources, I will comment if they are suitable or not. CT55555(talk) 02:49, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
And you are willing/able to take a picture of him yourself, consider uploading a WP:LEADIMAGE. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 10:08, 14 June 2023 (UTC)Reply
We cannot use WP:ANCESTRY. It is not a reliable source. CT55555(talk) 03:23, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
It is a link to a public record, uploaded by the state of Texas. Not a private tree. Maehem (talk) 03:34, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
