Hey, I'm a fan of your work, but I'd advise you against inserting obvious POV (such as the recently added "Sadly," sentence in Mark Knight) and adding your homepage link to the Melon Dezign article, as it can be construed as self-advertising. Mikkel 00:56, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I agree. See Wikipedia:Vanity_page as well. It's very bad form to edit one's own Wikipedia entry - such edits are subject to reversion. You are free to put POV and vanity statements on your user page though. Cheers - RosinDebow 02:46, 27 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I don't agree that adding my homepage to the Melon links is Vanity since I was a member of Melon and the links should be used to show what the members are up to know. Point taken about the "Sadly" sentence, so I've deleted that part. I don't see why there should be a problem in editing a Wikipedia entry which refers to me (I didn't start it), if it means updating it and adding more infomation. Cheers, Mark 01:58, 02 May 2006 (GTM)
I stand corrected - this is what the Wikipedia:Autobiography guideline says (emphasis mine), though it is a slippery slope: RosinDebow 05:38, 3 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

It is difficult to write neutrally about yourself. Therefore, it is considered proper on Wikipedia to let others do the writing. Instead, contribute material or make suggestions on the article's talk page and let independent editors write it into the article itself.

However, in clear-cut cases, it is permissible to edit pages connected to yourself. So, you can revert vandalism; but of course it has to be simple, obvious vandalism, and not just a content dispute. Similarly, you should feel free to correct mistaken or out-of-date facts about yourself, such as marital status, current employer, place of birth, and so on.

Not having gone through this site in detail, I wasn't aware of the talk page and what it was for... so I will use that from now on. Thanks for that. Mark.

MIDI violin edit

Regarding your recent edit to the electric violin page, I think Drew Tretick did use a MIDI violin in the past (there are samples of his ZetaMan CD on his website (http://www.drewtretick.com/), but he apparently doesn't anymore. I would not say he is notable enough to include but I'll let someone else make that call. One violinist who has used a MIDI violin in new music who I might include in the list is Mari Kimura, though again I'm not sure how much she is using a MIDI violin these days.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 22:16, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for September 22 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Mark knight (sound designer) official photo 01.jpg edit

A tag has been placed on File:Mark knight (sound designer) official photo 01.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a file licensed as "for non-commercial use only", "no derivative use", "for Wikipedia use only", or "used with permission"; and it has not been shown to comply with the limited standards for the use of non-free content. If you agree with the deletion, there is no need to do anything. If, however, you believe that this image may be retained on Wikipedia under one of the permitted conditions then:

  • state clearly the source of the image. If it has been copied from elsewhere on the web you should provide links to: the image itself, the page which uses it and the page which contains the license conditions.
  • add the relevant copyright tag and if necessary, a complete fair use rationale.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. – Train2104 (t • c) 11:34, 21 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:Mark knight (sound designer) official photo 01.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mark knight (sound designer) official photo 01.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

ATTENTION: This is an automated, bot-generated message. This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 03:00, 10 May 2017 (UTC)Reply
