Change to Bee

Your fix removed information that has been extensively discussed, and whose wording and placement were agreed to on Talk:Bee. Have you read that page? Or are you perhaps suggesting the wording you removed should have its own section title to avoid breaking some WP:LEAD rule? Or that it should be above the page title and lead? I'm not exactly a veteran Wikipedia editor, but I can't get this discussion out of my head. Wikipedia is about teaching people, about giving them access to information. I think most of us who frequent Wikipedia regularly are aware that most people do not have the patience to read through an entire article on bees. Now if most people who are hitting the Bee article are searching for information about the "dying bees", doesn't it make sense to quickly redirect them to the proper article? It's my understanding that the purpose of the lead section is to give a quick overview of the subject and to "briefly [describe] its notable controversies" (WP:LEAD). I also am under the impression that the rules for modifying or writing wikis are guidelines only, not scripture which must be followed. It seems to me (and I gathered from the bee discussion thread that this is the consensus) that this CCD thing is a valid exception to the normal code of conduct.--Khono 08:41, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

I absolulutely agree, as you may have read in [Talk:Bee]]. In response to Madchester's fix I added a {{For}} template above the article lead. That seems to have satisfied all the personalities involved, as it is still in place; and I haven't seen any more Talk questions to the effect "WHAT ABOUT THE DAMN DISAPPEARING BEES?" Question about links in the Kent CT article

Madchester -- I noticed you removed one of the links I added to the Kent CT article and if you would, I'd like to discuss it so I understand why and don't repeat the error again. I added 2 links, one for the Kent Chamber of Commerce and one for an historical B&B in Kent. The second link is the one you removed as spam. The reason why I linked to the B&B website (and I'm not mentioning it by name here because I don't want it to appear like I'm trying to circumvent your having removed it) is that it has a wealth of information about the Kent area. For example, one page has over 30 references to local events, golf clubs, horseback riding, etc. The B&B itself is on the Historic Registry for the town as it was built in the 1700's and is on the original site of the downtown Kent area (since moved about 1 mile south).

Now I know it's a commercial website and exists primarily to encourage people to stay as guests at the inn, but it frankly has more information on its website about the Kent area than the chamber website does. Is it inappropriate to link to a commercial website even when it has a large section of relevant information about the article? Also, there's another website I was considering linking to once it gets repaired (it's under construction right now). A local realtor has a section on her website about local Kent legends. It's a huge section that has everthing from Native American history to local ghost stories. I think it's a very entertaining and informative site and it's definately all about Kent and the surrounding area, but of course, it also tries to sell real estate in the Kent area so it's definately commercial.

Is there a way to put links into an article for sites like this because of the information they have or is it a lost cause because the site is commercial? The chamber site, btw, is also a commerical site and a large part of it is advertising local Kent businesses. I guess I'm having difficulty understanding why one is acceptable and the other isn't? Can you help me not make the same mistake again?
