Hey, can you program JS? Looking for someone to modify an existing user script. MB 04:46, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

If it is not too complicated, then i can. Is it the draftify script? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:54, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
Yes, we want to change script to change the message left for the article author. Evad37 is inactive right now and I don't know if/when he will return. He has not responded on-wiki or to emails. You have probably seen the VP discussion about most people not customizing the default message. Kudpung and I have a created a new help page, and we want to link that in the message and have a series of check boxes for the script user to be able to create a specific message without typing a lot of text. If you can do this, we could either post a request at Wikipedia:Interface administrators' noticeboard and see if anyone is willing to update Evad's script (that would take weeks), or you could just create a fork called Move to Draft (NPP) or something like that and we would ask everyone to start using your version. I have a screenshot of the proposed new message dialog box. It would probably be easiest for me to just email that to you. MB 14:47, 3 November 2022 (UTC)
  • I assume the screenshot will be similar to [1]. If we can simplify it to just the addition of checkboxes/radiobuttons to the existing interface, it would be easier to do. I'll start work assuming this.
  • I've stopped folks from emailing me directly via wikipedia, but you have my mail id anyway. Please send it there, if it will be different from the above.
  • Instead of me owning the script and hosting it in my userspace, i think we should host it within the NPP space, within say WP:NPP/Scripts. Hopefully, we can still get the same level of page protection as a userspace hosted js file. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:26, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
I saw that image in the Phab earlier today, but I forgot it was there yesterday. It is the same, so I don't have to email it to you. I'm not sure what you mean by "simplify it to just the addition of checkboxes/radiobuttons to the existing interface". If that means keep the appearance of the existing script - sure, the functionality is what matters. If/when this is included in Page Curation, it will have a different "look", matching other screens in the tool.
Just to clarify, we want the message on the authors page to be a concise message - not looking exactly like the input screen - just "Thanks for creating [article]. Unfortunately, it is not ready for publishing because it has no sources and it is written like an advertisement. Your article is now a draft..."
I can see if I can find out about hosting it in NPP space so you can focus on the script. MB 02:45, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
MB, go to the test wikipedia and login with your normal wiki credentials. Then add "importScript('User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js' );" to your common.js file there. Create a new page and try to use "Move to Draft". There are still a few bugs to be worked out, but the basic functionality is there. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:48, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

It looks really good. Just a couple of points:

  1. with the Other: Additional reason, do we really need the editable text box. Perhaps just a 'Preview' would be enough in that box.
  2. If we use the text window just as a message preview, then the red Please add to or replace the default notification text so the author understands your specific reasons for draftification! is no longer needed. Keeps things simple.
  3. 'Other' should start with a checkbox, not the O from other as a radio button.
  4. The top instruction is missing: "Add tags first if you wish, then check any or all boxes that match the issues with this article, then submit the message". That might look nice in red italic

The user talk page message is perfect. Congratulations, excellent work MPGuy2824, thank you so much for this. If you're in India you're almost in my time zone. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 12:14, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

@Kudpung I think we should keep the Other/additional reason text box as is because it keeps all the "input" together - not mixed between the radio buttons and the "preview window". I agree it should have a check box too (#3), the red message at the bottom is not needed (#2), the top instruction is missing (#4). MPGuy, I notice that if you type in an additional reason, it doesn't show up in the preview box, unless you check one of the buttons after you type in the text. Can you refresh the preview after hitting <enter> when you add the text? MB 14:26, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
Sorry , I made a complete mess of my point #1. Of course the 'Other field is a fillable text field, and it should have a square checkbox like the others. What I meant was: Do we need the editable default text box at the bottom? - The one I suggested should now simply be a preview. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 20:27, 4 November 2022 (UTC)
Well, it would work either way. I don't see a big reason to make the preview box un-editable, especially if it's not trivial to do so. Looking at it again, it's not really a "preview" box at all because it doesn't show how the message looks like after the wikimarkup is processed - it shows the raw wikitext message constructed from the radio buttons - so it kind of seems like it should be editable. I lead towards leaving it editable, but it's not a big deal. MB 00:43, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Here's how I intended it to look like, MB. Note also the instructions that were missing. I don't see the need for another editable message when there is an 'Other' field. I naturally understand that not everyone shares my view that things are best kept as simple as possible but highly functional - especially as so many users are non-native English speakers, even some of our NPPers, or speak less common variations of Engvar. If it's technically not possible to make the editable field a simple preview, then ok. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 04:52, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
  • Non-editable preview message wasn't hard to do.
  • I've also done your point #2.
  • I added the text you wanted along with the beginning red text. See if that's ok, or it needs changes
  • I've added a checkbox for other, but its still buggy. Ignore it for now. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:57, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
Looks pretty good. The only difference I see with Kudpung's image is the instructions at the time are different shades of red and are more separated. "Please ensure draftifying is appropriate" is policy, and the other part are more instructions on how to use the script, so it may be better if they were a little more distinct.
Another minor thing I noticed is that if you click a button, then unclick, the corresponding text does not disappear until you click a different button. That's not really intuitive, if you can improve that. But overall, I think it is almost done. Great job. MB 06:30, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
    • Top instructional message - changed the shade of red, made it italic. I tried to put it on the right, as in the image, but my css skills aren't up to scratch. It is just under the policy message now.
    • 'Other field' message repeated - fixed.
    • Unchecking an option if it was the only one checked - Fixed now, but in any case you can't press continue without one of the boxes being ticked (or some text being added in the 'other' area. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:03, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
I've also copied the code to enwiki, in case you want to do live testing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:25, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Thanks MPG, I'll take a look. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 05:22, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Just a couple of tweaks needed. See the notes on the image. Also the contents of the 'Other' field displays twice in the Preview. and doesn't display unless you check another box. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk),

  • I don't know how to install this in my vector.js page. Souldn't it have something like: importScript('User:SD0001/StubSorter.js'); // [[User:SD0001/StubSorter.js]]? Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 09:05, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
In User:Kudpung/vector.js, you already have Evad's script. Just replace his username with mine. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 09:18, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
'The bottom box still says:'Notification message'. It should read Preview, other wises users will be clicking in it trying to edit the text and that will raise a lot of questions for us to answer. The idea is that they should se the 'Other' text field if they want to say more. Can you fix it? I can't do it because it now needs Interadmin rights. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 10:39, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
@Kudpung I think "Notification message" is fine, because it is NOT a preview of the final marked-up text with the signature expanded and the clickable links, etc. It we said it was a "Preview", I think we would get more questions about why the preview box wasn't showing an actual preview as is normal in other tools (e.g. Twinkle). Maybe in a future WMF version, this can become an actual preview. Everything in the latest version looks good to me. MB 16:12, 5 November 2022 (UTC)
MB, we'll see. $20 says the first feedback from an NPPer will be "Why can't I edit the message?" To which if course our answer is "Because it's a preview. If you want to add something, put it in the 'Other' field." Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 23:46, 5 November 2022 (UTC)

Question from QuicksmartTortoise513 (16:03, 3 November 2022)

How does someone change an article to B-Class, because for Wikiproject Spaceflight, it says that an article has not been checked against a quality scale. How do you change the rating and check against the scale? --QuicksmartTortoise513 (talk) 16:03, 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Please link an article so that I can be more specific. In general, for each wikiproject you'll have to find their assessment scale. For WPSpaceflight, it seems to be at Wikipedia:WikiProject Spaceflight/Assessment#Quality scale.
Also, can you please install the User:Evad37/rater? It is the answer to your "how to change rating" question. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:54, 4 November 2022 (UTC)

What is the exact error shown when you try to add the line:

Unexpected string, :, JSON, }, and syntax was unrecoverable. QuicksmartTortoise513 (talk) 05:04, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

Files

If you upload a file that specifically concerns English Wikipedia issues or processes, remember to add the {{esoteric file}} template just under the licencing template. This avoids unnecessarily cluttering up Commons and you'll also get it added to your uploads log. You can use this for easy local uploads for experienced users like yourself and it has a selectable 'screenshot from a Wikipedia page' licence. Also, if your own work is based on someone else's don't forget to add that tidbit to 'author'. Kudpung กุดผึ้ง (talk) 01:05, 7 November 2022 (UTC)

I added the image to commons directly and (understandably) that template doesn't exist there. Anyway, next time I'll add such screenshots to enwiki with that template. I see you've added the part about the wireframe to the author field, thanks. It wasn't my intention to take credit for your work, and i've tagged you in the code changes ([2]). Please also add your attribution to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft if it is appropriate. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:15, 7 November 2022 (UTC)
The link to the direct local upload form is over there on the left in the sidebar of every page: 'Upload file'. I think you are the only person who can access the script code, which is good because it needs the maximum of protection possible. We don't want people re-editing it just because they can, or demanding unnecessary enhancements. Thanks again for your work on this and everything else you are doing on other patches. Thank you for the speedy deletion nomination. I made two errors in moving the article. J1 Transfers references

Hi! In the bottom of the article i linked the transfers to an Official source, the own J.League. In the edit summary i also provided a few other links. I think it would be too much to add a reference to every single transfer... Should i do the same i did with the JFL transfer articles? There i linked the news section of each team site on the external links. ~~ Skydream1721 (talk) 03:04, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Assuming that you are talking about List of J1 League football transfers 2023, at least add one ref tag in each section. That way reader know where to look for the rest. Currently they might have to check every reference to verify a single detail. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:09, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
I added a ref to a section the way i'm imagining in my mind just to say how would i add references to the sections. Please tell me if it's enough or not, for i'm still a bit confused ~~ Skydream1721 (talk) 03:17, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
What you did was essentially ok, but i would add refs to a particular report and not to the page that lists all the transfer reports. After a year or two, your ref will not be valid as the transfers for 2023 will probably exit the first page.
That said, you'll also have to show notability for the topic of the list itself. Please read WP:SIGCOV. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:26, 2 December 2022 (UTC)
Aside from all the other work i need to do outside on Wikipedia and inside the Wikipedia regarding nearly every single page of 2022/23 competitions and its participating clubs, i run alone 4 pages of Japanese football transfers... I won't be able to add to every player a reference. So, i will do the partial reference by adding one to each section. Also, the ref do not expire. The J.League have different links to transfers article from each year, for example: 2022 Transfers and 2023 Transfers ~~ Skydream1721 (talk) 03:37, 2 December 2022 (UTC)

Reviewer of the year

Hey, just wondering how busy you are and when you are going to do the 2022 barnstars. There is no rush, but if you are going to get to it right away, we can include it in a newsletter next week. If not, a summary can go in the one after that. Either way, please review the current draft. Thanks. MB 04:27, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

MB, I was planning to start this sort of discussion on the NPP talk page, on 2nd January (to ensure that 2023 has arrived for everyone). I had thought about keeping the discussion open for a week and only then award the Cup, as well the barnstars. If you think the newsletter needs to go out early, i can start the discussion on 1st Jan and keep the discussion open only for 3-4 days. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 04:59, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
We didn't do that for 2021. Didn't you, me, and NL just have a brief discussion and decide it would automatically go to who did the most reviews - it's going to be Onel's second cup, no one else is even close. I think we can do that again. Do you concur @Novem Linguae? MB 06:21, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
I don't have a problem with this too. Obviously Onel was gonna be my nomination, and i wasn't expecting serious dissent on that aspect. If we are going ahead with this, I'd like to take Jan 1st to build/update the various tables for WP:NPPA, and then do the actual awards on the 2nd. The newsletter can then go out anytime after that. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:31, 30 December 2022 (UTC)
Yeah I think our workflow previously was that it's encouraged that we give it to the top reviewer numerically, but we have the coordinators look at the numbers and double check everything. That way we can spot any issues with a bot taking the #1 spot or any other issues that might arise. I'd be fine with it going to Onel if he is the #1 numeric reviewer again. Well deserved. –Novem Linguae (talk) 07:11, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Question from IHateMySelf762 on User:IHateMySelf762/sandbox (19:01, 30 December 2022)

Hello! May I ask, how to create a template for a school? --IHateMySelf762 (talk) 19:01, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Hi! Welcome to Wikipedia (as an editor). I've left you a message on your talk page with a few links that you can read through.
Now to your question: I assume you mean an infobox template, of the kind that is visible on the top-right of Eton College. If that's the case, then you can use Template:Infobox school. Also, do note that schools have a high bar for notability, and they need at least 2 or 3 in-depth references in independent, reliable sources. I suggest that you start your school article in your sandbox first. We can then take it from there. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:33, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Move to Draft

Can you take the last version of the EVAD script and change it to issue a message: This script is no longer being maintained. Please switch to the current version: Edit your edit your common.js file from Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

You or I can then make an edit request to get an Interface-Admin to do the update. MB 03:08, 31 December 2022 (UTC)

Unmaintained message for Evad's script
MB, I've done the changes on my local machine, and it would look like the screenshot on the right. There is another option though: Replace Evad's script with a redirect to mine. This would be more seamless for users. @Novem Linguae: thoughts? -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:03, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Interface administrators are usually hesitant to redirect user scripts without the authorization of the original creator, for security reasons. The people that downloaded that script may trust Evad but may not trust the new maintainer. It's up to the patrolling intadmins though. Also redirecting user scripts can be tricky... if that idea is pursued, make sure to test carefully. The normal #REDIRECT notation may not work for user scripts; you may need something like importScript('blah') instead. You can always post at WP:IANB or ping an intadmin for additional advice. Hope this helps. –Novem Linguae (talk) 05:07, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Yup, importScript works on my local machine. I can give the int-admin both choices while doing the edit request. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:15, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
There is a third way too: Instead of replacing Evad's script completely with the message, we can just add an alert, before the main part of the script starts. This way, if folks want to continue with that script, they can; at least they are informed of the newer version. Was this what you meant, MB? This would be a much smaller change, and I'd guess that int-admins would have less of an issue with this change. You can try out this version by adding User:MPGuy2824/Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to your common.js file. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:02, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Yes, that is what I meant. Just display a message and still run. I thought an I/A would be most likely to permit that. MB 01:16, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Understood. Once you've tested it out to see what it looks like, i'll make the edit request. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:36, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
With the message in a pop-up window that has to be dismissed, people that want to continue using the script may complain. I was expecting just a message at the top. I think we should do that at first to make deprecating the script more gradual. MB 16:21, 1 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes, just a message at the top isn't much of an intrusion.
I've done this. Try it out. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:06, 2 January 2023 (UTC)
Busy right now with RFA (thanks for your comment there), will try to get to this soon. MB 06:09, 2 January 2023 (UTC)

New Pages Patrol newsletter January 2023

Hello MPGuy2824,

New Page Review queue December 2022
Backlog

The October drive reduced the backlog from 9,700 to an amazing 0! Congratulations to WaddlesJP13 who led with 2084 points. See this page for further details. The queue is steadily rising again and is approaching 2,000. It would be great if <2,000 were the “new normal”. Please continue to help out even if it's only for a few or even one patrol a day.

2022 Awards

Onel5969 won the 2022 cup for 28,302 article reviews last year - that's an average of nearly 80/day. There was one Gold Award (5000+ reviews), 11 Silver (2000+), 28 Iron (360+) and 39 more for the 100+ barnstar. Rosguill led again for the 4th year by clearing 49,294 redirects. For the full details see the Awards page and the Hall of Fame. Congratulations everyone!

Minimum deletion time: The previous WP:NPP guideline was to wait 15 minutes before tagging for deletion (including draftification and WP:BLAR). Due to complaints, a consensus decided to raise the time to 1 hour. To illustrate this, very new pages in the feed are now highlighted in red. (As always, this is not applicable to attack pages, copyvios, vandalism, etc.)

New draftify script: In response to feedback from AFC, the The Move to Draft script now provides a choice of set messages that also link the creator to a new, friendly explanation page. The script also warns reviewers if the creator is probably still developing the article. The former script is no longer maintained. Please edit your edit your common.js or vector.js file from User:Evad37/MoveToDraft.js to User:MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft.js

Redirects: Some of our redirect reviewers have reduced their activity and the backlog is up to 9,000+ (two months deep). If you are interested in this distinctly different task and need any help, see this guide, this checklist, and spend some time at WP:RFD.

Discussions with the WMF The PageTriage open letter signed by 444 users is bearing fruit. The Growth Team has assigned some software engineers to work on PageTriage, the software that powers the NewPagesFeed and the Page Curation toolbar. WMF has submitted dozens of patches in the last few weeks to modernize PageTriage's code, which will make it easier to write patches in the future. This work is helpful but is not very visible to the end user. For patches visible to the end user, volunteers such as Novem Linguae and MPGuy2824 have been writing patches for bug reports and feature requests. The Growth Team also had a video conference with the NPP coordinators to discuss revamping the landing pages that new users see.

Reminders
  • Newsletter feedback - please take this short poll about the newsletter.
  • There is live chat with patrollers on the New Page Patrol Discord.
  • Please add the project discussion page to your watchlist.
  • If you no longer wish to be a reviewer, please ask any admin to remove you from the group. If you want the tools back again, just ask at PERM.
  • To opt out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Question from QuicksmartTortoise513 (02:36, 9 January 2023)

Hello, MPGuy. Thank you for the commendations! I have a question about editing. Is there anything wrong with mass editing if done with care? Thank you! --QuicksmartTortoise513 (talk) 02:36, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Mass editing is a relevant essay. Like everything on Wikipedia, it depends .... in this case, on the kind of edits (cosmetic or not) and the rate. WP:AWB can be configured to do a lot of small grammar/spelling changes, if you are interested. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:41, 9 January 2023 (UTC)

Your GA nomination of State Council (Sikkim)

The article State Council (Sikkim) you nominated as a good article has failed  ; see Talk:State Council (Sikkim) for reasons why the nomination failed. If or when these points have been taken care of, you may apply for a new nomination of the article. MPGuy2824/MoveToDraft Help

@MPGuy2824 thank you for creating this tool to make life more easier. I need help regarding this tool, as I have installed it per instructions but I can't see "Move to draft" option on the page. I am using Timeless skin and I just see by default 'Move' option on this article. Can you please help to set it up correctly. Thanks M.Ashraf333 (talk) 11:17, 19 January 2023 (UTC)

@M.Ashraf333. It's working for me. Did you check the left menu -> page tools (may need to scroll down a bit) -> move to draft? Here's a screenshot.Novem Linguae (talk) 18:40, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
@Novem Linguae, Thank you for your response. Nothing to show beneath the heading 'Page Tools' on left menu (just empty section). I have cleared a cache multiple times after installation of the tool but no success. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 18:59, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
@M.Ashraf333. Looks like your commmon.js file has syntax errors. Try making these changes. These fixed it for me. P.S. MPGuy2824, is var m2d_rationale = "blah" generated by MoveToDraft? If so, may need to do some escaping. –Novem Linguae (talk) 20:05, 19 January 2023 (UTC)
@Novem Linguae, Done. There were 2 page curation scripts on common.js file, one of them giving error. Now it's working fine for me. Thank you for help. 👍 M.Ashraf333 (talk) 02:24, 20 January 2023 (UTC)
Good that you got it working with NL's help. You seem to be one of the more prolific users of the script lately! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:20, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
This script is mandatory when you have page mover right, anyways thanks for making people's lives easier. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 05:27, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Also, just to clarify: I didn't create the script (Evad37 did), but i'm the current maintainer. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:33, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
Yes, I looked at the script's documentation page. M.Ashraf333 (talk) 05:38, 30 January 2023 (UTC)
NL, no that line isn't generated by the script, but it does read that variable. I'm thinking of deprecating it though. Thanks for fixing Ashraf's problem while i wasn't around. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:18, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Mayor

Is mayors of bihar are notable to have their article. This time in bihar, mayors, deputy mayors, chaiman, vice chaiman are elected by public votes, not by councillors vote. --- Misterrrrr (talk) 08:23, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

Mayors don't pass WP:NPOL (Only MLAs and MPs do in India). So the articles will have to pass WP:GNG which is a higher standard. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 08:38, 31 January 2023 (UTC)

You probably want to look at WP:NPPSCRIPTS. Among those, i use Stubsorter, Rater and MoveToDraft. Among the gadgets, i use Hotcat and Twinkle. Alos, see if you want to join the NPP-Discord server. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 06:12, 8 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from BookEmDano83 (07:06, 13 February 2023)

I just tried to upload one of my own drawings to Wikipedia and some filter blocked it. I have been editing on the DVD+RW page, which contained a lot of misinformation about the origins of the format. (I should know, as I have the fundamental patent on it and can back that up.) So, my drawing, which has appeared in my papers over the years, is somehow seen as unseemly by the filters. Not sure how to fix this.

Thanks, Danny --BookEmDano83 (talk) 07:06, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Hi, welcome to Wikipedia! Is there any more information that you can provide? The error/warning message that you got, when the filter was triggered, might be useful. -MPGuy2824 (talk) -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:13, 13 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from TenkaichiBeta (21:25, 16 February 2023)

How do you create an article? --TenkaichiBeta (talk) 21:25, 16 February 2023 (UTC)

@TenkaichiBeta: Wikipedia:Articles for creation is a good place to start. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:32, 17 February 2023 (UTC)
@TenkaichiBeta: I see that you've already started a draft at Draft:Gregetron Z And Gregetron Z Kai. I've added the AFC template to it. Once you add enough references to the article, you can submit the draft for review by an AFC reviewer. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:40, 17 February 2023 (UTC)

hey i just had a sandbox i was working really hard on the last few days and now it is gone i was jiust about to submit it could you please help me to recover the sandbox and submit it --ENERGYNEVERDIESS (talk) 19:16, 22 February 2023 (UTC)

Only an administrator can restore you sandbox, and that's not going to happen.--Bbb23 (talk) 19:28, 22 February 2023 (UTC)
@ENERGYNEVERDIESS: Hi! Looking at your talk page history, it looks like you are only interested in creating an article about yourself. As has been explained there, you'll have to wait for someone else to create your article using reliable sources. In the meantime, if you are interested in editing other topics/articles, you'll first have to be unblocked. You can first read the guide to appealing blocks, that has been mentioned in your block notice, and proceed from there. Hope this helps. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:50, 23 February 2023 (UTC)

Question from Truthpuppy (19:55, 27 February 2023)

I want to set up a Wiki Page for a local Historical Society. Any advice would be appreciated. --Truthpuppy (talk) 19:55, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

@Truthpuppy: Hi, welcome to Wikipedia. For your local historical society, I'd suggest that you start an article in your sandbox. You can improve it there slowly, and make it ready for publishing as an article. To start with, write a few lines and add some online references. We can proceed from there. Happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:05, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Purposeless Wikipedia Actions

What is the point of your action other than to make Wikipedia unwelcoming (something that the site is now notorious for). I created the page AlphaPolis, so that I and others can gradually improve it. It was all dry facts (and identical to the Japanese and French Wikipedia pages). Now that it's in the Drafts namespace no one will see it, and if I don't get around to improving it, it will get deleted. How is this helping anyone? -- Walt Pohl (talk) 23:33, 27 February 2023 (UTC)

@Waltpohl: I draftified your article because it had no sources, but i see you've moved it back. I cannot speak about the Japanese or French wikipedias, but the english Wikipedia has a high notability standard for companies (see WP:NCORP, which might have been updated since you've joined wikipedia). The two sources that you've added don't cover the organisation in depth, and you'll have to find more sources to meet NCORP. I've added the article to various relevant wikiprojects. Hopefully, some members of those projects can help you out with the article. Hope this helps and happy editing! -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:18, 28 February 2023 (UTC)

Wikimedia Foundation project to improve PageTriage

Hi, as an active New Page Patroller, I wanted to make sure you were aware of an upcoming Wikimedia Foundation project to improve the PageTriage extension. We recently published results of user interviews, and have some findings that we would value patrollers' opinions on. If you haven't yet, please consider adding the project page to your watchlist to stay up to date with our progress! Samwalton9 (WMF) (talk) 13:17, 2 March 2023 (UTC)

@Rejoy2003: I don't consider myself an expert on copyright, and so am not adding those images myself. Given that you aren't able to edit articles, I suggest that you add edit requests to talk pages for such issues. That way people who monitor edit requests will be aware of the changes that you requested, and not just the people who have watchlisted certain articles. I've made changes to the talk pages that you've linked above accordingly. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:19, 10 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Javeuv (16:10, 15 March 2023)

hi how do i report trolls on here ? --Javeuv (talk) 16:10, 15 March 2023 (UTC)

@Javeuv: Welcome to Wikipedia! You can read WP:RVAN about how to respond to vandalism. Looking at your contributions, I assume that you are talking about the article Human rights in Dubai. You took the right first step in undoing the vandalism. Usually, we warn the user also. I've just done that in this case, so no need to warn them again, unless the behaviour is repeated. In general, there are 3 or 4 levels of warnings given before the next step, which is to inform admins about the issue. Happy editing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:10, 16 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Cmorr1000 (11:24, 19 March 2023)

Hello: I'd like to add to an existing Wikipedia article, so I've just joined Wikipedia. The article link is below. I'd like to either add information for Paul Friedberger (listed in the article) OR open a new page about him. Please advise. Thank you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Associated_Recording_Studios#:~:text=Associated%20was%20owned%20and%20operated,anyone%20with%20a%20recording%20need. --Cmorr1000 (talk) 11:24, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

@Cmorr1000: Welcome to Wikipedia! I'd say that you can start with adding the information to the Studio's article. (That article needs a lot of cleanup, btw). Additionally, if you feel that there is enough information in reliable, independent sources about Paul Friedberger, you can start an article about him at Draft:Paul Friedberger. Wikipedia's standards of notability are quite high and the sources that you provide will need to be top-notch. I've also added a welcome message on your talk page with a list of links, which you can read at your leisure. Happy editing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:49, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Gorotron923 (16:15, 19 March 2023)

Hello! I just submitted an author to the running list of authors to be added to Wikipedia, it's myself, because I didn't want there to be a COI. --Gorotron923 (talk) 16:15, 19 March 2023 (UTC)

@Gorotron923: Welcome to Wikipedia! If you haven't gone through WP:COI, then I'd suggest that you do. COI editing is strongly discouraged, but the way you've requested for the article's creation is fine. Just that nomination link may not be enough to meet Wikipedia's notability standards for authors. So, I'll suggest that you find reliable, independent sources about yourself, and add them to your request. In addition, I'd suggest that you follow the steps mentioned in WP:DCOI, just to keep things as transparent as possible for folk who would look at your request. Happy editing. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 02:57, 20 March 2023 (UTC)

Indian election article help

Hello MPGuy2824, I am reaching out to you after noticing your activity on political Wikipedia pages. I am confused about how to design the table for the 2023 Telangana Legislative Assembly election#Candidates because half of the constituencies fall under one district, and the other half come under another. How should I edit this table to provide accurate and appropriate information? Source: https://www.tsdps.telangana.gov.in/Statistical_Abstract_2021.pdf page 18 456legend(talk) 05:49, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

@456legend: Ah, so many of the constituencies cover regions that are in 2 or more districts. It would be hard to show districts in the way that is currently shown in that table. You might have to move the district info to a new column. See List of constituencies of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly for an example (constituency #4 specifically). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 05:56, 23 March 2023 (UTC)
Okay thank you, I will try putting it that way then. 456legend(talk) 06:00, 23 March 2023 (UTC)

Mind your business

@Maximliviu7: I'll assume that you are talking about Draft:Cupa Romaniei (Women's handball). As you can see in the message that was left on your talk page, it was draftified because it has no sources. It has nothing to do with the draft being about a Romanian sport or how much you love it. Please add a few reliable, independent sources (that talk about the topic in-depth) to the draft. The draft is not in danger of being deleted (unless you ignore it for 6 months). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 12:39, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

Question from Portageterriers (15:40, 25 March 2023)

Hi, I"m trying to change the logo on the Portage Terriers page and it isn't working. It just defaults to the old logo. --Portageterriers (talk) 15:40, 25 March 2023 (UTC)

@Portageterriers: the new logo that you are trying to add to Portage Terriers is quite low-resolution. I would wait until a higher resolution image is available. In any case, you'll have to change the image mentioned in the infobox to do what you are trying to do. (Replace "Portage Terriers logo.svg" with the new image name). Also, your username might be a problem. I'll leave a note about it on your talk page. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:11, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

Thank you for 'drafting' it, but the idea was to goose someone else into expanding it; it's rather ironic that an American film in English does not have an article in English but DOES in German! (Have my hands full with William Knighton at the moment) Cheers! Shir-El too 16:38, 26 March 2023 (UTC)

@Shir-El too: Even in draftspace other folks can help to get the draft to minimum standards for mainspace. I've added the draft to a couple of wikiprojects. Let's see if there are any nibbles. -MPGuy2824 (talk) 03:05, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
MANY THANKS!
BTW I'm looking for a collaborator or two, someone(s) to help on wiki coding or how to appeal to a wider/interest group. Example: I just discovered there was a near 'Me Too' in 1992, but it died down almost without a whimper: Barbara Noel's book "You Must Be Dreaming," about years-long drugging and sexual abused by her psychiatrist, Jules H. Masserman, was made into a movie (Betrayal of Trust 1994), but there is NO mention of either HERE. Even Ann Landers wrote about it in the day: THE MASSERMAN AFFAIR OUT IN THE OPEN AT LAST!
Thank you again, and will try to get back to Express when I can. Cheers! Shir-El too 07:04, 27 March 2023 (UTC) - PS Found The Signpost on your page; will try there. Cheers!
@Shir-El too: I don't think the Signpost would be right place for that. You might try some of the WikiProjects mentioned in the header of Talk:MeToo movement (Feminism, Women's history and Social Movements in particular). -MPGuy2824 (talk) 07:52, 27 March 2023 (UTC)
