Battle of the Lycus

Hi LuciusHistoricus! I just wanted to say what a great job you are doing with Battle of the Lycus. I see that you have cited the lead (the introductory section), but not the sections below it. It is really important that you provide citations or footnotes for each section, showing where the information came from for the information in that section. This forms a part of Wikipedia policy known as verifiability. Each paragraph should have at least one citation or footnote. When you are happy with the article, why not list the article at WP:MHAR for someone to take a look, make an assessment of it against the Milhist quality assessment scale, and get some feedback? We have several members who are active working on Roman era articles, for example, Iazyges, who is one of our coordinators. Looking forward to seeing more of your work. Konrad's Commentary on Sertorius

Hi, you should use Christoph F. Konrad, Plutarch's Sertorius, for articles related to Sertorius. It's the reference work on the subject. Konrad also wrote several articles on Sertorius, including "Some Friends of Sertorius", and "Metellus and the Head of Sertorius". 'Senior' & 'Junior' Consuls

You listed a senior and a junior consul for the year 107 B.C. for the Roman Republic. Does this imply that one had more votes than the other? I have never heard of this distinction made anywhere before, can you please let me know where it is referred to? Comment by Orange.County.Steve

Indeed. The consul with the most votes would become the senior consul. He would get first pick of consular (and afterwards proconsular) assignments. Source: Lynda Telford, Sulla: A Dictator Reconsidered, 2014. LuciusHistoricus

The proper terms are consuls prior and posterior. You can find the list of consuls with this distinction here. The consul prior was elected first by the Centuriate Assembly. A good reference on the subject: * Lily Ross Taylor and T. Robert S. Broughton, "The Order of the Two Consuls' Names in the Yearly Lists", Memoirs of the American Academy in Rome, 19 (1949), pp. 3–14.

I don't think the prior consul had a pick in consular assignments; these were usually decided through sortition. It is still worth mentioning this distinction prior/posterior as it gives us a hint of the electoral results. T8612 (talk) 13:57, 16 May 2020 (UTC)

Re this edit: FYI, MOS:DUPLINK was revised just a few months ago. Basically, on the mobile view, sections auto-collapse, and readers don't always read an article top-to-bottom like a novel. Now, duplicate links are explicitly allowed, and it's only repeat links within a section that are discouraged. Especially in articles on obscure old historical subjects, it really doesn't hurt to re-link various names and places, and this is explicitly allowed now.
