Speedy deletion nomination of Porsha Stewart edit

A tag has been placed on Porsha Stewart, requesting that it be deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under two or more of the criteria for speedy deletion, by which articles can be deleted at any time, without discussion. Wikipedia is not a social-networking site edit
Sorry, but Wikipedia is not a social-networking site or a place for people to write about themselves and their families. You should use a site like Myspace or Facebook.
Wikipedia is a project to build an encyclopedia, so it is selective about subjects for articles. The criterion used is called Wikipedia:Notability, and is not a matter of saying so, but has to be demonstrated by references showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." More detail at WP:Notability (people).
Even if your family are notable, it would be better to leave it to someone else to write about them, for reasons explained at Wikipedia is not about YOU. JohnCD (talk) 20:11, 29 January 2013 (UTC)

I have reverted your edit here for two reasons:
- It was a copyright violation, copied from http://www.bravotv.com/people/porsha-stewart/bio. Wikipedia cannot accept copied material without a formal copyright release from the actual copyright holder. Just saying it's OK is not enough. See Wikipedia:Copy-paste.
- It would not be worth making a copyright release, because the tone is entirely wrong for an encyclopedia, which is written in a much more formal style. Stuff like "a saucy southern lady... A true "Georgia Peach"... " is fine for Facebook and fan-sites, but Wikipedia is different, it is written from a neutral point of view, no opinions, plain facts cited to reliable sources. Hello. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. You could also click on the signature button 
or 
located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. I said I would offer some advice about making an article.
The first thing is to emphasis that Wikipedia is quite different from the Myspace/Facebook type of site.
One important difference is that if you make a page here it will not belong to you. Nobody owns a Wikipedia, article, not its first author, and least of all its subject. Other people can and will edit it, you will not be able to insist on your preferred version, and you may encounter Wikipedia's law of unintended consequences.
Another is that Wikipedia is selective about article subjects. The criterion used is called Wikipedia:Notability and is not a matter of saying so but has to be demonstrated by showing "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject." Significant means more than just listing-type mentions; reliable excludes Myspace, Facebook, blogs, places where anyone can post anything; independent excludes the subject's own website, affiliated ones and anything based on press releases. The test is, have people not connected with the subject thought it significant enough to write substantial comment about? See WP:VRS for more detail, and WP:ENTERTAINER for the sort of achievement an entertainer needs before having an article. Notability is not inherited - a person does not become notable by being related to notable people, only by their own achievements.
Wikipedia has a WP:Verifiability policy: "any material challenged or likely to be challenged must be attributed to a reliable, published source." For instance, you said on my talk page that she is on on the board of "Hosea Feed the Hungry". That would need a reference, like a link to their website; but in fact, I don't see her name on their list of board members. The verifiability policy also means that opinions like "a saucy southern lady" have no place here.
By now you are probably thinking that this is all much more difficult than you expected. I'm sorry about that, but if Wikipedia is more useful than, say, Myspace, it is only because we have these rules and policies. I think myself that it would be better if some this were explained before a new user signs up, but there is a fear that people will be put off if it is made to sound difficult. If I now sound discouraging, it is because I do not want you to join the long list of people who have put a lot of time and energy and emotion into writing an article which never stood a chance of surviving.
What you should now do is, think hard about notability, because if you cannot show it you will be wasting your time. Then, if you want to go ahead,
- Read WP:Your first article
- Because of your conflict of interest you should not post an article directly. Go to Help:Userspace draft and fill in the title. That will make a draft page for you, with a link to send the article, when it is ready, to WP:Articles for creation, where an experienced user will check it and either accept it or give you feedback.
- When writing it, be careful to keep to a neutral point of view and do not make claims unless you can cite a reliable source for them.
