Presidential seals edit

I see that you have been adding decorative seals to infoboxes about US presidents and vice-presidents. This looks like a unilateral initiative that stretches the limits of boldness and would in my opinion require prior consensus of interested editors. Did you discuss these additions anywhere prior to proceeding? — JFG talk 10:40, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

I was also concerned by this. Even on my laptop, the seals are so small as to be very difficult to make out, likely they are far worse on a smartphone. And once we have these, people may add other tiny seals, of the House or Senate, say.--Wehwalt (talk) 12:39, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
Please remove the POTUS and VPOTUS seals you've added to infoboxes on US president and vice president article pages. These decorative seals are so tiny on my tablet that they are difficult to make out (even worse on my smart phone). Aditionally, their enmasse inclusion lacks consensus and appears to run afoul of MOS guidelines by being "arbitrarily decorative". Drdpw (talk) 15:33, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
JFG, Wehwalt, Drdpw I would argue that it's safe to remove all of them because a number of the presidents have the seal in the "series" template ie: Template:Donald Trump series, Template:Ronald Reagan series, etc. Granted, not all of the presidents and vice presidents have their own series box. ViriiK (talk) 17:29, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
@ViriiK: That sounds reasonable. I can't imagine it would be a terribly controversial series of reversions. --Sunshineisles2 (talk) 17:32, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I'd also like to add my disapproval of adding the seals. It seems like it was unilaterally performed and serves no discernible purpose.--Sunshineisles2 (talk) 17:30, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply
I oppose adding the seal developed in the Rutherford B. Hayes administration to biographies of earlier presidents such as Abraham Lincoln. It is an anachronism. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 19:21, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

Resolved. Given unanimous opposition, the seals have been removed. Many thanks to ViriiK for performing a long series of reverts. @LordVesuvius: Please do not be discouraged by this incident; we all wish you the best in making productive contributions to the encyclopedia. — JFG talk 20:39, 17 May 2018 (UTC)Reply

July 2018 edit

Hello, I'm Toddst1. I noticed that you made an edit concerning content related to a living (or recently deceased) person on Linda Cardellini, but you didn't support your changes with a citation to a reliable source, so I removed it. Wikipedia has a very strict policy concerning how we write about living people, so please help us keep such articles accurate and clear. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Toddst1 (talk) 23:44, 13 July 2018 (UTC)Reply

British prime ministers edit

Please do not try applying ordinals because PMs are not numbered in the way of American presidents and, in any event, there is confusion about who held office at certain times during the 18th century so any numbered list is bound to be dubious at best and probably controversial. By doing this, you are in breach of WP:OR so I advise you to stop. No Great Shaker (talk) 05:14, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Why, then, are Canadian and Australian PMs numbered? LordVesuvius (talk) 14:54, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

That is irrelevant. No Great Shaker (talk) 20:57, 25 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don’t see how it is. If Canada and Australia are both a part of the UK, and their PMs are numbered, why wouldn’t the UK PMs be numbered, as well? LordVesuvius (talk) 01:06, 26 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

I don't think any of our Aussie or Canadian members will be too chuffed to read they are part of the UK. You need to get your facts right there. The point is that there is no official numbering system for British PMs and so you cannot provide reliable sources for one per WP:V and WP:RS. By "inventing" a numbering system, you are breaching WP:OR. And, as I said above, there is no certainty about the numbers because claims on behalf of Bath and Waldegrave are disputed. If you still think your list is valid and should be included, you need to raise a proposal for it at Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics of the United Kingdom and Wikipedia:WikiProject Politics.
