Barnstar

  The Invisible Barnstar
You know, for a long time I thought a bot did the maintenance for the "holding pen" at WP:UAA. A look of curiosity at the holding pen's revision history quickly shows that it was actually you who has primarily been maintaining that page for the past several months. I just wanted to stop by and say: thanks! Mz7 (talk) 17:27, 16 July 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for supporting my run for administrator. I am honored and grateful. Cullen328 Let's discuss it 00:47, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Relisting AfDs

Hi, I just wanted to drop in and say that I think you might be relisting AfDs a bit too quickly. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Plano ISD Health Sciences Academy is a pretty clear consensus to redirect, with the nom even agreeing to it. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/CDM Electronics, Inc. (2nd nomination) the only keep !vote was from an SPA and wasn't policy based, and admin might have reslited but also might have equally closed as delete. Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Kristin Sutton there was a pretty clear consensus, the option of draftifying was brought up, but there was no opposition to deletion. A lot of these cases an admin could close at their discretion and aren't necessarily in a clear need for a relist. That just pushes the burden down the road, which isn't good as AfD is already backlogged. TonyBallioni (talk) 17:20, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Okay. Feel free to undo any of my relists that you disagree with. Thanks for the kind message. Linguist111 17:23, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Not a problem. It reminded me a bit of BU Rob13's essay Wikipedia:Relist bias. Basically those of use who don't have all the buttons are naturally going to be biased towards options that we can implement, so sometimes when its not 100% clear, it is best to let an admin look at it. I'll probably go ahead and redirect the first one after talking to you, but I don't see a point in undoing the others: it'd be more of a mess to undo the relist than it is to wait another week. Just something to keep in mind in the future. TonyBallioni (talk) 17:26, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
I deleted the Sutton one because the consensus there was clear. ~ Rob13Talk 17:33, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Thank you both. I'm still not that experienced with AfD's, I'm getting there but I'm not quite there yet. I think I should refrain from doing a lot of technical stuff for a while and vote more in AfDs instead. Linguist111 18:05, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

User:UQwiki

Hi Linguist111. Just wondering what your take would be on this particular username, which has popped up on the University of Queensland article of late. I ask for two reasons - the first being that you posted on the account's Talk page back in October last year and I don't see a response to the request made, so I kind of feel it's more your call than mine, and the second being that you have more experience in username matters than I do (I have none). I suppose there's a third reason, being that I don't want to get involved in anything potentially messy regarding my current university. I'll watch your Talk page to keep everything in the same place if/when you respond. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 09:20, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi BigHaz. Thank you for letting me know about this. Usually, when a person is questioned about their username and don't respond but continue editing, as in this case, the standard procedure is to file a report at WP:RFCN and let other users offer their opinions as to whether the username violates WP:U or not. A username should be reported to WP:UAA if it is a blatant violation, while less serious/potential violations (or in cases where UAA reports are declined by administrators who say it should be discussed with the user) should be discussed with the user. This username appears to be promotional, as evident by the article they are editing, and so it should have been reported to UAA. Back in October, I was not that familiar with the username policy and how things are generally done, so I probably made a mistake in discussing it with them instead of reporting it. I've had a quick look through UAA's October page history and it doesn't seem the username was ever reported. I'll report the username to UAA. Thanks again. Linguist111 15:17, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
Update: user has now been blocked. Linguist111 21:13, 2 August 2017 (UTC)
No worries. Kind of a shame it had to get blocked (there I go with my potential conflict of interest again!), but much obliged for the info as well. BigHaz - Schreit mich an 22:59, 2 August 2017 (UTC)

Reports to UAA

Several of your recent reports to WP:UAA have been declined. In general it is not helpful to report users who have never yet edited, unless the name is a really really blatant violation. Similarly, an implication of shared use should be rather clear unless it is supported by promotional edits or edits that appear to be on behalf of a group. Please take note for future reference. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 19:57, 12 August 2017 (UTC)

@DESiegel: Some of your declines were wrong though. The Wiktor Kobus ones could have been blocked with {{Uw-famousblock}} to be on the safe side (as another admin told me in the past), and the "Wikipedians getting hurt by vndals" one was blocked as a sock of an LTA, and I don't see how it implies anything other than an intent to vandalise Wikipedia. Linguist111 00:18, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
I have to disagree, Linguist111. I don't know if anyone at UAA,is a sock, and to be honest I think that those who do specialize in sock detection are way over eager to block, and often do so on "evidence" that we wouldn't allow to support a mildly negative statement in a BLP. In any case a UAA report is not occasion to check for possible sockpuppetry, and I don't and won't. As for the name "Wikipedians getting hurt by vndals", it could mean a vandal, or a would-be vandal-fighter, or someone complaining that our policies don't stop vandals quickly enough. Until there are edits to judge, one can't tell and shouldn't block. As for "Wiktor Kobus", neither a wikipedia search nor a google search shows that name as belonging to anyone well known, so using {{Uw-famousblock}} "to be on the safe side" would be totally wrong, indeed it ought to get the blocker desysopped, at least if there is a pattern of such blocks. We don't block "to be on the safe side", we block when and only when there is demonstrated harm to the project, and a likelihood of more if we fail to block. DES (talk)DESiegel Contribs 14:24, 13 August 2017 (UTC)
That's fair enough. Thank you for your explanations, note taken. Linguist111 18:37, 13 August 2017 (UTC)

On 9 August 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Death of Nicole van den Hurk, which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that following the death of Nicole van den Hurk, her stepbrother falsely confessed to killing her to get her body exhumed for DNA testing? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Death of Nicole van den Hurk. You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Death of Nicole van den Hurk), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

A message from Daylen

Hi! I noticed that you nominated File:Compose.io logo.png for deletion. Why did you list it, as the FUR is completed? Do you think it should be transferred to the Commons? Cheers, Daylen (talk) 20:45, 21 August 2017 (UTC)

Hi, you don't appear to have filled in the parameters for |Replaceability= (NFCC1) and |Commercial= (NFCC2) (it just says "n.a." in those parameters). If FURs for these sorts of images do not need these parameters filled out, then you may remove the tag. I'm not sure whether it should be transferred to Commons as I'm not very familiar with the Commons-images policy. Thanks. Linguist111 21:06, 21 August 2017 (UTC)
Fixed BTW, those two parameters are left blank by default when using the file upload wizard, as they are not required for logos. Daylen (talk) 03:47, 22 August 2017 (UTC)

BLPPROD

Appuraman

Hi Linguist111, I just noticed your have removed the BLPROD from the article Appuraman. The reference that had been provided is a link to an entry on Facebook that mentions the subject in passing. I had thought that user edited sources such as FB or IMDb would not normally qualify as "reliable source" to satisfy the reference condition for BLPs? I do still think that the subject lacks notability - I didn't really find any qualifying sources - and wanted to spare the way via AfD. Thx. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 07:42, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

@Jake Brockman: Hi. WP:BLPPROD only covers BLPs which are entirely devoid of references, so as long as an article has any sort of reference (reliable or not), BLPPROD doesn't apply. I believe you should use the regular PROD. Thanks. LinguistunEinsuno 13:22, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
@Jake Brockman: Actually, per Domdeparis below, the source was added after you PRODed the article, so it would have to be reliable. Of course, Facebook is usually not a reliable source, but that reference appears to be from the official Facebook page of the film company that "employs" (not quite the right word) the subject and lists them in a cast list of a production, so I think that's enough to verify some of what's in the article. So I still think your best bet is regular PROD. Thanks. LinguistunEinsuno 14:20, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
I would agree with Linguist the source is at the very limit of reliable as it just mentions that he is a video editor but it is an "official page". I would suggest an AFD if you can't find any other sources for this person though. i looked under his full name and stage name and could find nothing of interest. I have just blanked the user page of the article creator as he has created a draft page for a person who's page has been deleted once already. Domdeparis (talk) 14:54, 9 September 2017 (UTC)
@Linguist111 and Domdeparis: Thanks both. The FB is quite borderline, but I believe there may be a case to made for an AfD on the basis of lacking overall notability. Have just raised this accordingly. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 18:38, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

Instagram as source for BLP

Hi I have reverted your edit on Charlie Driggers because the Instagram source was added after the BLP prod and to be able to remove the prod the sources added have to be reliable this source does not fulfill the conditions as a reliable source. Had it been on the page before the prod then it would be considered as any source and a BLPPROD would not have been valid. Once the prod has been added then any sources added have to be reliable as per WP:BLPPROD. Domdeparis (talk) 13:36, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

@Domdeparis: Okay, thank you for letting me know. LinguistunEinsuno 13:40, 9 September 2017 (UTC)

IP, I appreciate your apology. I myself Google’d her name together with “1993” and found a number of sources saying she was born in 1993, and then did the same with “1992” and also found a number of supporting sources saying she was born in 1992. I don’t understand Vietnamese (at all), so I’m not sure which sources are reliable. I think this discussion should continue at the biographies of living persons noticeboard, where other editors can give their input. I will file a report there shortly. Thank you. A message from Ratherbe2000

I actually did leave sources for France's 1st season and you still took them down, so clearly I'm not the one who's the problem. If you literally type in these names on google images you'll get a good solid 5 rows of photos per person. Lucy's last name WAS Doublet, it IS Marlene Rabinel, etc. I suggest we put those surnames we've had for I don't know how many years back since they're 99.9% correct, with maybe one mistake. Having to validate with a source is pointless and time-wasteful. Ratherbe2000 (talk) 19:52, 9 January 2018 (UTC)

@Ratherbe2000: The sources you added were either questionable or self-published. Interpretation of sources to say something that they don't explicitly say (in this case, that these people were contestants on this specific TV series) may constitute original research. The fact that these surnames have been in the article for years is generally not a valid reason to keep them - note that any content on Wikipedia may be wrong at any time (c.f. WP:DISC). It is not "pointless and time-wasteful" to verify content with sources - quite the opposite actually; verifiability is one of Wikipedia's core content policies; encyclopaedic content must be verifiable through reliable sources. This is even more important in this case, since the articles in question (Top Model articles) contain information about living people. Thanks. LinguistunEinsuno 09:20, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

Hello there. You might want to modify the dates for the SGK LTA report, because SGK was actually active (via sock IPs) as recently as February 14, 2018. Here is an example of the more recent, obvious SGK-type vandalism, and this is the IP range involved: 2600:1:f440::/44 (note that this IP range was also recently abused by at least 1 other LTA before it was rangeblocked). LightandDark2000 (talk) 21:52, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

@LightandDark2000: Thank you for posting the diff, I will update the page accordingly. Cheers! LinguistunEinsuno 22:31, 6 April 2018 (UTC)
I see you've updated the page already, thank you for doing so. LinguistunEinsuno 22:33, 6 April 2018 (UTC)

Helloooo :) I love your File:Successful requests for adminship 2018.jpeg. Just a suggestion, perhaps you could reduce the font size of my and 331's lines to match those of cordless'. That way, all lines would have the same visual appeal, and Wikipedia can function normally too :) Hope all is well with you. Warmly, Lourdes 03:50, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

@Lourdes: I've uploaded a version with the names all the same size. I originally made Cordless Larry's size smaller because the text wouldn’t fit on the board in the original size. But I think it looks much nicer with all the text the same size. Thanks!   LinguistunEinsuno 13:30, 8 April 2018 (UTC)

New Page Reviewer Flag

Hi, Linguist111.
I've noticed that you are an AfC reviewer but don't yet have the New Page Reviewer flag. Would you please consider heading over to PERM and requesting it? (check the flag requirements HERE)
As part of a larger plan to increase cooperation between New Page Patrol and Articles for creation, we are trying to get as many of the active AfC reviewers as possible under the NPR user flag (per this discussion). Unlike the AfC request list, the NPR flag carries no obligation to review new articles, so I'm not asking you to help out at New Page Patrol if you don't want to, just to request the flag.
Of course, if it is something you would be interested in, you can have a look at the NPP tutorial. Please mention that you are an active AfC reviewer in your application.
Cheers and thanks for helping out at AfC, — Insertcleverphrasehere (or here) 06:33, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/MarkFlemish

Since when are you an SPI clerk? Don't ever (1) move a case again or (2) close a case again. The fact that you did it right means I don't have to undo it, but that doesn't make what you did appropriate.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:30, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

@Bbb23: I assumed that since it said "clerk" instead of "SPI clerk" that anyone could move it. Does it make any difference who moves it? I have marked the case as "open" again. You're an SPI clerk so couldn't you have done all this yourself? LinguistunEinsuno (Linguist111) 14:35, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Your interpretation of clerk is astounding. Only clerks and CheckUsers can move cases - period. Only a member of the SPI team or an administrator can close cases. I am not a clerk. I can move it or I can request that it be moved. That's my decision. You shouldn't be commenting in the section where you put Done, but that apparently didn't occur to you, either, despite the section header. Regardless of your personal thoughts on these issues, I don't expect you to do any of these thing again.--Bbb23 (talk) 14:41, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Well, you've never even given me any links to any policies that support your statements, or any reasons why, just because I'm not an admin/clerk/CheckUser, I shouldn't ever apply WP:IAR and carry out tasks that have absolutely no result that would be different if someone with those permissions did them. What astounds me is that you are an admin and you never assume good faith on my part and are instead very hostile towards me. I will stop doing what you say I shouldn't so, but unless you're going to stop being hostile towards me, I'd like you not to communicate with me again. LinguistunEinsuno (Linguist111) 14:50, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't know of any way to explain to you why I was "hostile" without you probably taking additional offense. I tend to be direct, and in this instance I was more than direct. As for the future, I will post to your Talk page again only if in my view it's necessary. Can't remember ever doing so before, anyway, so it seems unlikely it will happen again. One last thought. SPI is not like other administrative noticeboards. It's more like ArbCom than anything else. Like ArbCom, SPI has clerks. Also like ArbCom, SPI has procedural rules although they are not as elaborate or as complete as ArbCom's. Yet, even if those rules aren't technically policy, they are enforced. Maybe that helps, dunno.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:02, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
I don't know of any way to explain to you why I was "hostile" without you probably taking additional offense. — Something along the lines of "You're an annoying little idiot" is what you're thinking of perhaps? Well, it's apparent that nothing I do is going to please you except staying out of your way, so that's what I'll do. I hope that makes you happy. LinguistunEinsuno (Linguist111) 15:14, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
Oh my, I thought my last comments were friendly. Obviously not. I'll explain what I said might offend you, and if that doesn't work, I'll give up and let you think what you will. Look at my first sentence in this thread, the question. I didn't have to phrase it in such an attacking way. I could have said "You're not a clerk and shouldn't have moved the case. Please don't do so again." Much shorter and much sweeter. I might have said the nicer sentence if you were a newbie, but you're a very experienced editor and I assume, although I don't know you, you make very constructive edits in other places. So, it was hard for me to believe that you would move a case when the status of the case is "clerk" and I use a specific template requesting clerk assistance. Hence the snark. I never thought you were "annoying", let alone an "idiot". The closest thing I can think of is willful. Anyway, unless you have a question, that's my last comment because apparently for you I'm only making things worse.--Bbb23 (talk) 15:25, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate you taking the time to explain yourself. All the best. LinguistunEinsuno (Linguist111) 15:31, 15 July 2018 (UTC)

ArbCom 2018 election voter message

Hello, Linguist111. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2018 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 18:42, 19 November 2018 (UTC)

No problem. Thanks for creating it! Linguist111my talk page 07:26, 22 December 2018 (UTC)

Thanks!

I know I did a public thanks, but I wanted to do the same on the talk page for the quick notice! Was just looking through the whole AfD, and this seems like it is going nowhere so far. Jovanmilic97 (talk) 14:32, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

@Jovanmilic97: No problem. I guess it doesn't really make a difference either way, given that that user is both blocked indefinitely and gave a weak argument, but I think it's only puppet votes that should be struck (so that there is only one vote per person). Not 100% sure though. But never mind. I agree, the majority of the discussion so far has a ludicrous amount of bias and lack of policy-basis. Thanks for relisting it. Linguist111my talk page 15:17, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
Yeah, I thought he was the sockpuppet so I did it. Doesnt matter now I guess. But my relist was reverted and cited not helpful. Not sure why though, but guess it is not important. Jovanmilic97 (talk) 15:27, 23 December 2018 (UTC)
We can wait for Bbb23 to explain that and then discuss it with them. Linguist111my talk page 15:28, 23 December 2018 (UTC)

A message from Zinnober9

Hello, do you still feel that Top Model. Zostań modelką (season 2) needs page protecting? I see that the other 6 seasons of the Polish version are not page protected, and they don't seem to be being vandalized. I'm messaging you since you were the editor who page protected this season. Zinnober9 (talk) 04:02, 21 March 2019 (UTC)

@Zinnober9: You can request unprotection at WP:RPP if you wish. Linguist111my talk page 05:23, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
Since the WP:RPP said for unprotecting requests I should contact the editor who page protected it first, I was following that. Thank you for you blessing, will do that next. Zinnober9 (talk) 05:40, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
@Zinnober9: No problem. It wasn't me who protected the page though, it was Ronhjones. I am not an admin so I can't protect pages, but I moved the page last October and so I presume you saw the notice 13:24, 6 October 2018 Linguist111 moved pending changes settings from Top Model. Zostań modelką (cycle 2) to Top Model. Zostań modelką (season 2) [...] and thought it was me. Linguist111my talk page 06:07, 21 March 2019 (UTC)
Oh. I misunderstood and you are correct in my mistake. I will message him instead. Sorry to bother you. Zinnober9 (talk) 01:25, 22 March 2019 (UTC)

Disappearances

Hi, thank you for improving and adding articles to the new created category that I created, as I really like it when people do that. Do you think that you can help me out with editing, I have a lot to do and could use some help. Davidgoodheart (talk) 20:01, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

@Davidgoodheart: No problem! Are there any particular pages, categories etc. that you need help with? Linguist111my talk page 20:42, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Yes, can you see if there are any fugitive who are currently wanted by the police who you can add to the List of fugitives from justice who disappeared. I have recently been adding fugitives to the "fugitives who are no longer sought section", but the ones who are currently wanted really needs expansion. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:41, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
That's not my area of Wiki-expertise but I'll do what I can as soon as possible. Linguist111my talk page 21:52, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Here's one who you can add Glen Stewart Godwin. Are you aware of how to use that format? Davidgoodheart (talk) 22:06, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
@Davidgoodheart: Is this right? [2] Linguist111my talk page 22:50, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Yes, that is correct, thanks and well done! Davidgoodheart (talk) 23:50, 31 March 2019 (UTC)

Thanks! Linguist111my talk page 23:51, 31 March 2019 (UTC)
Have you created any articles? This name Catherine Kerkow has been on the List of fugitives from justice who disappeared for a while now, and an article on this person needs creation. Davidgoodheart(talk) 00:36, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
You can see a list of articles I've created here. I might be able to create an article on Catherine Kerkow, but you are welcome to request an article at Wikipedia:Requested articles—maybe someone else will do it quicker than me. Linguist111my talk page 01:11, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi, could you please see if you can expand this article Mieczysław Kosmowski with more info and sources. Davidgoodheart (talk) 20:01, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
I'll give it a go tomorrow. Linguist111my talk page 20:13, 1 April 2019 (UTC)
David, I've copyedited the article and will look for sources later. Linguist111my talk page 19:48, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Hi, even if you can't find sources as that might be difficult since I have found it hard to find sources, please try to expand the article. Davidgoodheart (talk) 21:38, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

I didn't find any more sources, and I'm not sure if it is possible to expand the article much without more sources. I cannot understand or read Polish well at all, and I see that there are Google Translate-ed sources but we can't guarantee the translations are accurate. And after reading what Icewhiz wrote on the article's talk page, I'm not sure the subject even merits an article. Sorry for being useless. Linguist111my talk page 22:02, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
I have found more sources in English that I have added, and also expanded the article, so I would say that it is much more worthy of being kept now. Davidgoodheart (talk) 23:06, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. Linguist111my talk page 23:23, 2 April 2019 (UTC)
Hi, could you please make an infobox for this article Aarni Neuvonen, as well as adding some more sources, which probably won't be very hard to find. Please understand that I have a lot of editing to do and I can't do this all by myself. Davidgoodheart (talk) 22:11, 5 April 2019 (UTC)
Hello, David. I just wanted to let you know that I am taking a short break from Wikipedia. I'm also not sure if I want to write or contribute to articles on crime anymore, and will probably only limit my contributions to articles of the topic to updating articles that I have already created. As an alternative, you could join this WikiProject and/or list articles that you want creating, expanding or improving there. I need a few days off and then to find other topics which I can write about. Apologies for any inconvenience. Linguist111my talk page 07:56, 6 April 2019 (UTC)
