Antoine Loysel edit

Thanks for starting the Antoine Loysel page and listing it at WP:PNT. To be honest, it doesn't seem like your French is quite up to the task of translating from French articles; this sounds pretty much like a machine-translation. The consensus at Wikipedia, is that a machine translated page is not helpful; for one thing, anyone can translate the page online, and get the latest version. I appreciate your taking the time to find a page that French Wikipedia has, and we don't, and wanting it to appear here. My recommendation in a case like this, would be to translate just the WP:LEADSENTENCE, and include at least one good reference. You included three; that's even better, and probably makes it deletion-proof, even if it's only one sentence. You can also bring over the "Bibliography" or "Works" section, as that doesn't have to be translated. If there's a "See also", you can bring that over, too, if the links correspond to articles that exist at en-wiki. Finally, add an {{Expand French}} template to the top, and the proper WP:STUB to the bottom (see WP:STUBLIST). It's helpful if you link it to the original French article, by clicking the 'Edit links' link in the left sidebar by the language links. There are some editors who are good at translating content, but don't like finding a foreign article that needs translation and starting off the structure of a new English article. If you like doing that, that's really valuable and helpful, and if you can crank them out, that would be great. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 08:15, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Copy and translate attribution edit

Please don't forget to include a proper copy or translation attribution statement to the edit summary whenever you copy or translate material from another article. I know you're familiar with the concept, beucase you already did it when you created Carola Giedion-Welcker in this edit. In the case of Antoine Loysel, I've added translation attribution for your 21:30, August 25 edit. Please remember to include it in the edit summary. If you forget, see WP:RIA. Thanks, Mathglot (talk) 09:12, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for that. I searched in vain for it. -LilHelpa (talk) 10:51, 28 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

thank you edit

my experience with WP is bad. Most entries I created get edited either by people who wage their own wars or by ignorant passers-by. Almost every time I inspect an entry I had written years ago, I find it damaged by what I think are careless edits. There are exceptions, though. Each time I stumble over your edits (and few other people, like John of Reading), I am overwhelmed by the amount of good will, lack of personal interest, dedication, systematic effort and - apparently - the intention to help the others. I keep wondering who you are and what drives you, and the only answer I can arrive at is that yes, there are angels on this planet. rgds, --Dd1495 (talk) 11:01, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the kind words. I'm sorry to hear of your experiences at WP. I've been treated rudely here as well at times. Sometimes it helps to take a break. If your motives are noble, please return. If your experience is consistently bad – perhaps Wikipedia is not for you – or you need a different approach. Happy trails! --LilHelpa (talk) 12:05, 7 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hyphens edit

Please be aware of Wikipedia's Manual of Style for hyphens, which says "Avoid using a hyphen after a standard -ly adverb (a newly available home, a wholly owned subsidiary) ...". In particular, in the article Eastern Coalfields. Happy editing! Chris the speller yack 18:41, 16 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Holmes's edit

Do you consider this to be the preferable possessive spelling for Rupert Holmes, whose article uses American spelling and grammar? Thanks for any advice. -- Ssilvers (talk) 07:55, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Ssilvers: See MOS:POSS for Wikipedia's usage. (I admit that I may have changed this incorrectly recently. - Thanks.) --LilHelpa (talk) 12:59, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Just to confirm, if I'm reading that correctly, it's saying that Holmes's is always correct, yes? -- Ssilvers (talk) 18:24, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
Yes. --LilHelpa (talk) 21:56, 25 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Onward to Albi edit

I really appreciate your careful editing of Metz Cathedral. I just wanted to let you know that, with Metz about finished, I'll soon be moving on to Albi Cathedral, a most remarkable place, and would very much welcome your collaboration there. Best wishes for the New Year- stay safe and well! SiefkinDR (talk) 14:00, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply

@SiefkinDR: Thanks. I reviewed both the above articles and made considerable edits on Metz I need you to check "the Church the Synagogue" in the Portal of Christ tympanum description. Wording seems off there. Also please confirm the edits I made. I'm often unsure if "adapted" is a typo of "adopted" or not. --LilHelpa (talk) 14:41, 29 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
Thanks very much for your thorough and precise editing; you really are a Grandmaster Editor. Best wishes for the New Year, SiefkinDR (talk) 08:43, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
And you made the right call on "adopted" rather than "adapted." SiefkinDR (talk) 08:53, 30 December 2020 (UTC)Reply
