Per WP:BRD, if a change you have made has been reverted, you should discuss the matter on the article's talk page prior to restoring the reverted edits. Please do so. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 19:54, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Editing your friend's page

edit

I notice that on User talk:Tol, you wrote that John Booty is a friend of yours. Per Wikipedia's Conflict of Interest policy, you should not be editing your friend's page, because your friendship with him will make it hard to you to maintain the proper neutrality (for example, referring to him as a National Football League Legend). You may request edits at the article's talk page instead. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 20:30, 7 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I understand your comment, however "friend" does not mean I see his experience in life any differently than a bystander when making updates to this page. FYI, NFL Legend is an actual title for former players - it's an alumni group which he is a member. Thank you for your help navigating wiki. I didn't realize it required citations for all facts, which makes sense, I just had not thought that deeply into it.

The term "NFL Legend" as used by the NFL Players Association apparently refers to any retired professional football player. Using the term in Booty's biography is misleading. Also, the rest of the biographical information you've added is unverified. You've added links, but the links do not verify the content you have added, or are not considered reliable sources (such as Facebook posts). I am going to revert your changes again; do not restore them without proper links to actually verify the information you're including. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:11, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Good Morning Dan, why don't you update his page bc you're going to revoke any updates I add. Why are you so laser focused on this page immediately after I publish it? Do you work and get paid by wiki? You're targeting me in an aggressive manner. Also, NFL Legend is a term used by retired players. It is in no way a misleading statement. You are wrong.

First, no, I am not paid by Wikipedia. I'm a volunteer editor just like you. I noticed your changes, which appeared promotional in nature, and so I kept an eye on the page. And yes, while the term "NFL Legend" is a term used by retired players, it is not a term used by the general public, so calling someone "a National Football League Legend" seems inappropriately promotional. Wikipedia prefers to use the more neutral term "former NFL player". As I have recommended, since you are a friend of Mr. Booty, you should request the changes you'd like to see on the article's talk page, and allow others to assess your requests and make changes as needed. You'll need to provide reliable sources to back up your requests. If you feel I am targeting you unfairly, you are free to bring the matter to the attention of Wikipedia administrators (you can file a report at WP:ANI), but I think you'll find that they will agree with me that your edits violate Wikipedia guidelines. But then again, they may not agree with me and you may get your way. You're free to find out. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:36, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dan, you should take a step back and recognize that you are targeting this page. For some reason, you are hyper critical and overly attentive on it's content. Nothing I've added is misleading, You are being very antagonistic and I have tried to have a civil conversation about your concerns. For a third time, NFL Legend is a term used by the NFL. Your argument that some people don't know about it, thus it shouldn't be used, is completely absurd. You've become fixated and need to stop. There's nothing inaccurate that I've added and I've linked and cited everything possible. You're being a bully at this point. Read that again if you must but please stop targeting me.

And again, I'll state that not another single page about a former NFL player uses the term "NFL legend". Even though the NFL players association uses this term, it is not used by common people outside of that group. Therefore, calling someone a "legend" has promotional implications that, even if not intended by the NFLPA, are understood by the general public. You state that you cited everything possible, but your citations (to Facebook pages or Yelp pages) either are not considered reliable sources or do not actually verify the content. For example, there is no mention of Booty at the Yelp page for the World Gym of Upper Marlboro (which you have linked to but also oddly used as a citation for the World Gym of Largo, MD). As another example, you have linked to the home page of the Carthage School District to cite Booty's Athletics Hall of Honors induction. My goal here is nothing personal against you or Mr. Booty. Instead, Wikipedia has guidelines and rules, and there are editors like myself whose contribution to the project is to patrol pages for violations of those guidleines and rules. Your contributions have not conformed to Wikipedia guidelines (see WP:NPOV and WP:V specifically), and therefore have been reverted. Complain about me to the admins if you feel I have misbehaved; I've already recommended that course of action to you. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 15:59, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

Dan, I'm not going around and around with you anymore. You've already hit your 3 revocations in a lot less than 24 hours and violating wiki's guidelines. I will say again, you're not helpful, you're incorrect, and you are being a wiki bully. If other NFL players choose not to use that specific term, it doesn't make it misleading on this page. There must be many other editors that have reported you for edit warring and revoking. Stop messaging me. I feel attacked and harassed. In black and white, you are harassing me so stop messaging me, now.

Editing with a conflict of interest

edit

Hello, Laurenocmd. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 16:19, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Note that your edits to John Booty run contrary to many of Wikipedia's policies and guidelines regarding sourcing and neutrality. As your additions and changes are disputed, the onus is on you to get consensus for the changes you would like to see in the article.-- Jezebel's Ponyobons mots 16:19, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply

I'm attempting to add factual information to this page. I'm not paid for it. It doesn't benefit me in any way. There is not a COI. I do not have biased intentions. Not sure who you are but editors need to stop piling on top of other editors accusing them of this. Good bye.

You claimed the subject of the article was "a friend" which means you have a conflict of interest. As the Plain and simple conflict of interest guide explains Do not edit or create articles about yourself, your family or friends, your organization, your clients, or your competitors. You are doing exactly this. More than that you are adding external links into the body, adding completely unreferenced content or content that is using references that are not reliable sources (like using Yelp as a reference for a business Booty owns, destroying the formatting by putting categories in the middle of the article and essentially turning the entire article into a LinkedIn profile. For all of these reasons your edits were reverted. Nobody is piling on but people are attempting to explain this to you but you don't appear to want to stop and take it all in. Please take a moment to read the COI guidelines which have been provided multiple times here. Notfrompedro (talk) 16:38, 8 October 2021 (UTC)Reply
