Proposed deletion of Duckstation (emulator) edit

The article Duckstation (emulator) has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:GNG due to lack of significant coverage in reliable, secondary sources.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. What's the problem and where can I fix it? KungfuMantis (talk) 15:15, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Currently, the article isn't supported by any reliable, secondary sources. To be considered notable for an article on Wikipedia, subjects need to to have received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject. That usually means multiple articles, with many paragraphs devoted to the subject, run by multiple reputable publishers. Unfortunately, I looked and could only find 1 rather trivial source: GamesRadar. GamesRadar is considered a reliable source, but only 2 sentences are about Duckstation. That's just not enough. Woodroar (talk) 15:25, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
I'm just adding a lot of sources and improving the page; was that enough to pass the approval? KungfuMantis (talk) 17:57, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply
Unfortunately not. GitHub is a primary source, GoogleDocs is primary and user generated, Logic-Sunrise.com isn't reliable (as it was written by some random pseudonymous forum user), and GameTechWiki is also user generated. I suggest reading our Notability guideline in full, and also Wikipedia:Reliable sources for the types of sources that we're looking for. We also maintain a list of reliable, situational, and unreliable game-related sources at WP:GAMESOURCES. I used our custom Google search to look for sources and, as I mentioned, only found the 1 trivial GamesRadar source linked above. Woodroar (talk) 18:08, 21 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia and copyright edit

Hello KungfuMantis! Your additions to Polyrhachis mucronata have been removed in whole or in part, as they appear to have added copyrighted content without evidence that the source material is in the public domain or has been released by its owner or legal agent under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. (To request such a release, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission.) While we appreciate your contributions to Wikipedia, there are certain things you must keep in mind about using information from sources to avoid copyright and plagiarism issues.

  • You can only copy/translate a small amount of a source, and you must mark what you take as a direct quotation with double quotation marks (") and cite the source using an inline citation. You can read about this at Wikipedia:Non-free content in the sections on "text". See also Help:Referencing for beginners, for how to cite sources here.
  • Aside from limited quotation, you must put all information in your own words and structure, in proper paraphrase. Following the source's words too closely can create copyright problems, so it is not permitted here; see Wikipedia:Close paraphrasing. Even when using your own words, you are still, however, asked to cite your sources to verify the information and to demonstrate that the content is not original research.
  • We have strict guidelines on the usage of copyrighted images. Fair use images must meet all ten of the non-free content criteria in order to be used in articles, or they will be deleted. To be used on Wikipedia, all other images must be made available under a free and open copyright license that allows commercial and derivative reuse.
  • If you own the copyright to the source you want to copy or are a legally designated agent, you may be able to license that text so that we can publish it here. Understand, though, that unlike many other sites, where a person can license their content for use there and retain non-free ownership, that is not possible at Wikipedia. Rather, the release of content must be irrevocable, to the world, into either the public domain (PD) or under a suitably-free and compatible copyright license. Please see Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
  • Also note that Wikipedia articles may not be copied or translated without attribution. If you want to copy or translate from another Wikipedia project or article, you must follow the copyright attribution steps described at Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia. See also Help:Translation#License requirements.

It's very important that contributors understand and follow these practices, as policy requires that people who persistently do not must be blocked from editing. If you have any questions about this, please ask them here on this page, or leave a message on my talk page. Thank you. — Diannaa (talk) 22:41, 27 July 2023 (UTC)Reply

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. This is a notice to inform you that a tag has been placed on Page will be removed requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, images, a rephrasing of the title, a question that should have been asked at the help or reference desks, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

Hello, KungfuMantis,
What are you doing here? With page moves and page creations that make no sense. Please stop. Liz Read! Talk! 07:40, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for your contributions. It seems that you have added Creative Commons licensed text to one or more Wikipedia articles. You are welcome to import appropriate Creative Commons licensed content to articles, but in order to meet the Wikipedia guideline on plagiarism, such content must be fully attributed. This requires not only acknowledging the source, but acknowledging that the source is copied. There are several methods to do this described at Wikipedia:Plagiarism#Compatibly licensed sources, including the usage of an attribution template. Please make sure that any Creative Commons content you have already imported is fully attributed. Thank you. Fram (talk) 07:09, 4 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Aedes notoscriptus edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Aedes notoscriptus requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be an unambiguous copyright infringement. This page appears to be a direct copy from https://wiki.pestinfo.org/wiki/Aedes_notoscriptus. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images taken from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites or other printed material as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website or image belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text or image — which means allowing other people to use it for any reason — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. The same holds if you are not the owner but have their permission. If you are not the owner and do not have permission, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission for how you may obtain it. You might want to look at Wikipedia's copyright policy for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. So CC BY SA 4.0 from the source, wiki.pestinfo.org, is copyrighted? If it is copyrighted, then I will not violate the rules again, and what I need to do is fix this problem. KungfuMantis (talk) 07:53, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
As a wiki, it is not a reliable source in any case and shouldn't be used to base articles on. And if you copy text from a site with an acceptable license, you still need to clearly acknowledge that your text comes from there and isn't your own. Fram (talk) 08:08, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply
As you've noted, CC-BY-SA 4.0 is fine (it's compatibly licensed). However, I have moved the page to Draft:Aedes notoscriptus to allow you to add better sources. Please do not use user-generated sources, and only it move it back to the mainspace when you have added reliable sources. Sdrqaz (talk) 08:14, 2 August 2023 (UTC)Reply

Unsourced moves edit

Hello KungfuMantis, please refrain from deleting sourced content and moving articles to former names without any discussion or providing edit summaries to justify these moves. Your changes at Geocrinia alba and Geocrinia lutea have now been reverted until you can explain why you do not consider the descriptions at ASW and AW to be correct.
