I am trying to learn how to create pages in wikipedia through my sandbox. My employer, Kaplan Inc., uses wikipedia pages to organize the online content for their teachers across the nation. I am working on a project to create the eTEL for the PCAT (eTEL = electronic teacher's editions of the lessons). Kaplan already has these eTELs available for other tests including the MCAT, GRE, GMAT, DAT/OAT. My purpose in creating this page is to learn how to code for the PCAT pages in the same format as the other eTELs. So my goal is to recreate these pages and provide a new, yet still similar template to the page shown below. Kmackanin (talk) 01:58, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

I have removed the speedy-deletion tags for the moment, but please make copies of these pages for your own purposes, because they will be deleted soon, Wikipedia is not for what you and your employers are trying to do. It is a project to build an encyclopedia, and that is all it is. It is not a webhost for other purposes like publishing teachers' notes.
You did not link to the eTel page you mentioned as an example of what you wanted - I would like to see that, because it is possible that it is something encyclopedic that you could use as a model - anything like your drafts should have been deleted as soon as it was noticed.
There is a sister site called Wikiversity which is concerned with learning materials and might be suitable - I suggest that you investigate that. JohnCD (talk) 10:44, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please stop - this is not the place for these pages, and they will be deleted edit

On 3rd March I postponed deletion of two of your pages, to give you time to copy them, and I explained why Wikipedia is not a webhost for your eTEL teachers' notes, and waited for any acknowledgement of that message; but now I see that you are making more.

I now give you notice that they will all be deleted in 24 hours.

I repeat my advice that you should investigate Wikiversity. I can give no guarantee, but I think it likely that there would be no objection to your making your eTEL pages there. Wikiversity describes itself as "a project devoted to learning resources, learning projects, and research for use in all levels, types, and styles of education".

In your note above you refer to "other eTELs" and "the page shown below", but did not link to any page. I would still be interested to see any other examples, in case there is something related to your work which could actually be encyclopedic. JohnCD (talk) 21:20, 7 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Please don't delete yet, I'm finally getting the hang of this edit

Hi @JohnCD, I am sorry I did not reply directly to your message you left me. I had also been flagged by a user named Qpalzmmzlapq and thought the issue was resolved. I had been in contact with this user through their talk page. Might you be able to review the communication we had on Qpalzmmzlapq's talk page and let me know if all is okay? Not THIS wiki edit

Now I understand the problem. "Wiki" is a general term for a website which allows collaborative modification of its content. Wikipedia is probably the best-known wiki, but there are many others. Your screen-shot shows a page from another wiki, with Kaplan's logo in the corner - evidently a wiki operated by Kaplan. That is where you should be developing your eTEL pages, not here; this wiki is only for developing an encyclopedia, and teaching notes are not part of its scope - see WP:NOTMANUAL. Please move your pages to the Kaplan wiki as soon as possible. Regards, JohnCD (talk) 15:15, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Server Down edit

Is there a way I can continue to play and learn in my sandbox? I'll copy all of the code but our server is down and to continue learning how to code tables and things, I've been taking time to play and modify data. I see now that this isn't directly related to the purpose of wikipedia but I've grown by leaps in bounds in learning how to write wikitext and I was hoping I could still keep at least one page up and running to play with. That particular page is Biological Processes Section Introduction. A knowledge of wikitext would also help me to contribute to wikipedia in the future which I'd like to do one day. Either way, thank you for your patience in this. Kmackanin (talk) 22:35, 10 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK - I can't guarantee that someone else may not tag our page for deletion, but I will leave it alone for a little time. As soon as your server is up, please copy it all across there, and then add {{db-user}} to the top of your pages to request deletion, or send me a message. All the best, JohnCD (talk) 22:50, 13 March 2016 (UTC)Reply
Hi @user:JohnCD, I have put the {{db-user}} on 4 pages to be taken down from my account. Thank you so much for your time in helping me to understand the process and patience in allowing me to learn and transition the material. I've only been able to locate, transition, and tag {{db-user}} to 4 of the pages I've made. but if there are any others that need to be taken down can you let me know so that I can take the material off those pages and transition them before they are deleted?
Thanks. I have deleted those four, and also:
That leaves one page, User:Kmackanin/Biology 1, which still has content. When you have copied that, mark it with {{db-user}} and we'll be done.
Two tips, because I hope you may return to contribute sooner or later:
  • The way to attract someone's attention is to write {{ping|<username>}}. If you do that, and in the same edit sign with ~~~~, the user will get a "notification" at the top of his screen.
  • You can see a list of your own contributions by clicking the "Contributions" tab at the top of the page.

Hi @JohnCD:, I added the {{db-user}} to User:Kmackanin/Biology 1. THANK YOU so much again for your time and patience and also teaching me how to ping someone. I do intend on contributing to wikipedia at some point in the future (I'm studying to be a pharmacist and many times I see wikipedia pages that could be updated with newer health information but never knew how to change it). Now that I have somewhat of a bearing I will be sure to look for opportunities to improve anything I see fit. Again, thank you and I really appreciate all your help!
