DYK for Robert Satiacum Jr.

On 15 January 2017, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Robert Satiacum Jr., which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Faith Spotted Eagle became the first Native American to receive a presidential electoral vote after Robert Satiacum Jr. cast a faithless vote for her during the 2016 United States election? You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Robert Satiacum Jr.), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Reversion to old portrait

What's your rationale for this edit?

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?diff=760608806 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.53.230.115 (talk) 04:29, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

What portrait do you refer to? MB298 (talk) 04:32, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

The portrait of Senator John Thune at that link. 208.53.230.115 (talk) 04:35, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

It is the official portrait of Thune, and is of higher quality. MB298 (talk) 04:37, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

It's the official portrait from the last Congress. The one you removed is the current one. I'm not trying to start a fight, but how would you say the old one is of higher quality? 208.53.230.115 (talk) 04:39, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Because, they are the exact same image except that the one I removed was on a blue background, and the one I put in, which was the longstanding image, is the original and has a flag in the background. MB298 (talk) 04:57, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Bret Chiafalo

The article Bret Chiafalo has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails WP:BIO. Article says "he didn't vote how he was supposed to. Er...that's it"

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. AusLondonder (talk) 06:17, 29 January 2017 (UTC)

File source problem with File:Maureen Kennedy Salaman.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Maureen Kennedy Salaman.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the page from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of the website's terms of use of its content. If the original copyright holder is a party unaffiliated with the website, that author should also be credited. Please add this information by editing the image description page.

If the necessary information is not added within the next days, the image will be deleted. If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem.

Please refer to the image use policy to learn what images you can or cannot upload on Wikipedia. Please also check any other files you have uploaded to make sure they are correctly tagged. Here is a list of your uploads. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Ytoyoda (talk) 14:33, 10 February 2017 (UTC)

Not sure I understand the "It's okay to not provide a source because it's used under a claim of fair use" explanation here. It clearly contradicts WP:NFCC#10, and it seems pretty obvious Quack Watch is not the copyright holder here. Ytoyoda (talk) 02:35, 13 February 2017 (UTC)
@Ytoyoda: it appears the image is from Nutrition: The Cancer Answer II, a book by Salaman ([25]), so it can be assumed the copyright holder is "Statford Publishing". MB298 (talk) 02:40, 13 February 2017 (UTC)

2016 Presidential Election

Hi MB298, I know we have an ongoing beef RE Connecticut map, but I need your help with getting rid of false info on the main 2016 election page. Uncorroborated vote tallies have been posted to the website, and I have multiple sources, Dave Leip's Election Atlas, Cook Political Report, etc, that contradict these totals. I can't revert more than once a day on that page, so could you help some how with this? ThanksPalmerTheGolfer (talk)PalmerTheGolfer PalmerTheGolfer (talk) 01:31, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

Excellent edit

Thank you for your excellent edit at Virginia Conventions clarifying that the early map shows 1827 county boundaries.

I've found some public domain VA Senate district maps with period boundaries that will be suitable for the daughter articles for 1780, 1830, 1852, 1871 and 1902. I hope to upload them in the next week, but they are problematic in that they are the counties just AFTER the conventions...not necessarily the precise boundaries of the convention election districts.

Are you familiar with the County Formation maps that www.goldbug.com has put together for all 48 contiguous states? I have an email into them for book use of their maps, do you know if they will allow unlimited free use to qualify for Wikipedia article use? TheVirginiaHistorian (talk) 20:01, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Boldfacing in election infobox

At Nebraska gubernatorial election, 1990, you undid my reversion of the addition of boldface to the infobox, stating "This is standard for other election articles; although it isn't written down". Can you point me to a discussion in which consensus was reached for this? I took an admittedly small sample of three articles about other 1990 elections, and in none of them was this particular boldfacing present at the time of their creation; in two of the three, the boldfacing was added in late 2016 or in 2017. This suggests a relatively recent attempt to impose a standard rather than something that's got a lot of historical precedent or that's been hashed out by discussion.

If there's been no dicsussion, then perhaps there needs to be one. MOS:BOLD wisely limits the cases in which boldfacing should be used, and this doesn't appear to fit their criteria. Rather, it looks like boldfacing for emphasis, which, at least in article text, is clearly contraindicated by MOS:BOLD. The fact that Template:Infobox election doesn't automatically apply boldfacing here also suggests that it's not truly standard practice. Ammodramus (talk) 12:40, 11 April 2017 (UTC)

@Ammodramus: We have been using bold for a long time in election infoboxes; for example this revision of United States presidential election, 2004 from 2007 shows boldfacing for everything except the candidate himself, for some reason. I think it's just a manner of style, some (including myself) prefer boldfacing while others do not. I do agree, however, there should be some sort of discussion to establish consensus for boldfacing. You removed referenced information and new citations

Two days ago, I spent an hour adding citations that were missing from Wikipedia's "Shooting of Terence Crutcher" page and adding additional information.

After finishing, I received this message from you: "Please refrain from making unconstructive edits to Wikipedia. Your edits appear to be disruptive and have been reverted."

I lost my hour and all of my helpful edits because you decided that you did not want them. I presume that you did not actually look at them because, if you had, you would have seen that all of them were sourced with references.

I am an Oklahoma attorney who is intimately familiar with the facts and sources of information pertaining to the content that I was editing. I presume that you are not.

You have done a disservice to Wikipedia and to everyone who uses the "Shooting of Terence Crutcher" page for information.

On a side note: I'm glad that I'm not you. You must live a sad life if you spend it "policing" Wikipedia.

Speedy deletion nomination of A.J. Balukoff

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on A.J. Balukoff, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion discussion, such as at Articles for Deletion. When a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after a discusion, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
