The only problem with this so-called "naming preference" is it does not mention what sport it refers to. There currently 10 UK Wildcats Head Coaches of various Men's sports, as well as 10 more Women's sports (which I admit my naming convention doesn't allow for). There is also a {{UKyBbCoach}}, and at the University of Kentucky, as well as some other schools (UNC, Duke, Indiana), basketball is more prominent than football. --rogerd 19:15, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

Hi there.I don't really know what to say. It's hard for me and I assume it must be complicated for all the people in my situation to try a new language out. You see, I've been studying English language since 1995 but, for some reason, I still keep my doubts on the subject. I joined Wikipedia on July 26, 2006 —the Spanish version — and as for a sudden I became deeply acquainted with the English one. I cannot trust myself to do it better, but I would like to; believe me when I say that is my priority. Up to now I've written an average of 30 articles in the Spanish Wikipedia, most of which are based on English and American literature authors and movements. My best ones for so far are es:Frederick Douglass and es:William Shakespeare. On the same way I wrote one article for this wikipedia, originally a translation from Spanish into English. I also added further information to a geography stub. My intention is to help and take part of this wonderful experience, but to do that I may need a hand. Can we work together? Do you want to keep in touch with me? I'm on the web almost all the time. If I'm not here I'm there, always fooling around. Thanks for reading my terrible message. I support your reversion of the article. I have no idea why people deleted that stuff (or some of the facts I added). When I came across the article it was very sparse, so I filled in some details, not knowing you'd already included most of them in your version. Not sure if we should add any of those details back. Anyway, by working on that article in the state I found it I was not supporting the deletions; I had instead made the mistake of not checking the history before starting to flesh it out. Kansas River

A couple of weeks ago you edited the Kansas River article to say that the State of Kansas was named after the Kansas River, not the Kansa Tribe. I'm wondering if you have a reference on that, since related sites just show that the state was named after the tribe. I'm just trying to keep the info consistent. Thanks!

re: Category:Date of birth missing

Good evening. Per the discussion about privacy concerns expressed at Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons#Privacy of birthdays, date of birth should generally not be added to the biographies of living non-public or semi-public figures. So far, that policy has been interpreted fairly strictly with a pretty high bar being set for the definition of "public figures" who are assumed to have given up their rights to privacy.

By the same token, we should not be adding Category:Date of birth missing to articles unless we have made the case that the person meets the "public figures" threshold. Otherwise, we're just baiting new users into adding content even though the community has already said that we shouldn't include that particular data point. Category:Year of birth missing is okay but the exact date is often not. Thanks for your help. Rossami (talk) 23:11, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

Big 12 Endowment

I agree with your edit comment on the Big 12 page regarding endowment. I don't think that it really belongs on that page as the entire rest of the page is sports related and the information is also available on each university's page. Do you think we should remove it? Wikis Take Manhattan

Wikis Take Manhattan Next: Saturday September 27

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City. The event is based on last year's Wikipedia Takes Manhattan, and has evolved to include StreetsWiki this year as well.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

• Wikipedia:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Spring 2008 (a description of the results, and the uploading party)
• Commons:Wikipedia Takes Manhattan/Gallery (our cool gallery)

WINNINGS? Prizes include a dinner for three with Wikipedia creator Jimmy Wales at Pure Food & Wine, gift certificates to Bicycle Habitiat and the LimeWire Store, and more!

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, September 27th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

REGISTER The proper place to register your team is here. It's also perfectly possible to register on the day of when you get there, but it will be slightly easier for us if you register beforehand.

WP:Hornbook -- a new WP:Law task force for the J.D. curriculum

Hi Kgwo1972,

I'm asking Wikipedians who are interested in United States legal articles to take a look at WP:Hornbook, the new "JD curriculum task force".

Our mission is to assimilate into Wikipedia all the insights of an American law school education, by reducing hornbooks to footnotes.

• Each casebook will have a subpage.

• Over the course of a semester, each subpage will shift its focus to track the unfolding curriculum(s) for classes using that casebook around the country.
• It will also feature an extensive, hyperlinked "index" or "outline" to that casebook, pointing to pages, headers, or {{anchors}} in Wikipedia (example).
• Individual law schools can freely adapt our casebook outlines to the idiosyncratic curriculum devised by each individual professor.

• I'm encouraging law students around the country to create local chapters of the club I'm starting at my own law school, "Student WP:Hornbook Editors". Using WP:Hornbook as our headquarters, we're hoping to create a study group so inclusive that nobody will dare not join.

What you can do now:

1. Add WP:Hornbook to your watchlist, {{User Hornbook}} to your userpage, and ~~~~ to Wikipedia:Hornbook/participants.

2. If you're a law student,

• Email http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WP:Hornbook to your classmates, and tell them to do the same.

According to U.S._states_without_major_sports_teams and Major professional sports leagues of the United States and Canada Kansas is one of 25 states without a major league sports franchise (Football, Baseball, Basketball, and Hockey). Wikis Take Manhattan

WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

LAST YEAR'S EVENT

• Streetfilms: Wikis Take Manhattan (our awesome video)

WINNINGS? The first prize winning team members will get Eye-Fi Share cards, which automatically upload photos from your camera to your computer and to sites like Flickr. And there will also be cool prizes for other top scorers.

WHEN The hunt will take place Saturday, October 10th from 1:00pm to 6:30pm, followed by prizes and celebration.

WHO All Wikipedians and non-Wikipedians are invited to participate in team of up to three (no special knowledge is required at all, just a digital camera and a love of the city). Bring a friend (or two)!

Farmageddon

Hi Kgwo1972. As a long-time ISU Cyclone fan (but not fanatical), I was mildly surprised to see a WP entry for Farmageddon. Even though I attended the 2009 game at Arrowhead and had my ticket and hotel room for the 2010 game before a family issue kept me away, I had never heard the game/rivalry referred to as "Farmageddon". As a WP newbie, I am still trying to figure out stuff like "notability" as it pertains to articles and began by mildly wondering to myself whether this was a cause begun by some Cyclone or Wildcat supporter which existed entirely in his or her mind. My only objection to the article is that the table at the bottom sure has a lot of purple in it. Following the references in the Farmageddon article, I quickly saw that reputable sources had indeed called it Farmageddon. But they all seemed like KC or Kansas-based. I did a quick search of the Des Moines Register site and I could not find the term Farmageddon used there. I then did a Google search and there were a few references to the K-State vs. ISU rivalry as Farmageddon. One of the hits was a Cyclone fan site thus clearly my initial premise was wrong and instead I was, as is often the case, simply clueless. But I also noted that there seemed to be several more Google hits which instead refer to the new Nebraska vs. Iowa match-up as Farmageddon.

That long introduction is by way of anticipating that it won't be long before a WP editor wishes to somehow enter the Nebraska-Iowa contest as Farmageddon--either trying to usurp the article you wrote or at least modify it so as to indicate that there are two rivalries which are referred to as Farmageddon. A posting in a forum on the fan site I mentioned, Cyclone.Fanatic.com, even speculates that the K-State vs. ISU rivalry will no longer be called Farmageddon. Since you seem to be much more involved in college sports than I, you are probably way ahead of me in your knowledge of this topic, but I figured I would mention it in case there was something proactive you thought could be done to make sure that the earlier usage of the term did not get lost in the hub-bub related to the new rivalry.--Grandpa jlc (talk) 15:04, 24 November 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your note! I started that article by using material about the rivalry that someone had (wrongly) included in an article about the comic strip of the same name. Other editors have done a lot of work on the page since that time. I do keep an eye on that article (on my watchlist) and I have actually been meaning to make some edits over there. opening round *

Hi Kgwo1972,

Regarding your edits in the infoboxes regarding NCAA appearances being in the opening round, I want to say first off that while I don't disagree with there needing to be some sort of notation as well, there as been no standardization on this issue developed at the college College Basketball Wikiproject or with the CBB infobox documentation. I myself have previously tried to start discussion on standardizing the results listed in the CBB infoboxes. (see here) However, I think there is an issue with the asterisk being used as a notation, as it has already been employed to denote forfeited and vacated results per NCAA sanctions. In any case, I would recommend bringing the issue to discussion at the College Basketball Wikiproject to form a consensus and get this standardized across all the CBB teams.
