Roundhay School

Hi Keith. The latest piece of vandalism on this article by Nevango55 outs teachers' names in abusive fashion. Could you hide that edit from view? Also this user seems to be here to only disrupt, and I think should receive a block, in my view permanent. Thanks. Acabashi (talk) 21:03, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I have redacted the revision. I have blocked for a month, they have not edited recently so indefinite not really appropriate. Keith D (talk) 21:21, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Ready Player One (film)

Hi there, hope you are well. I noticed that ages ago you added Ready Player One to the Wikiproject Warwickshire group. Was wondering why? There is nothing in the article, on IMDB or on a quick Google search I did to suggest it is filmed there. I know you're a very good editor so was wondering the rationale behind it? Cheers! Sirhissofloxley (talk) 11:12, 4 June 2022 (UTC)

@Sirhissofloxley: Hello, I tagged the article as it was at that stage in Category:Films shot in Warwickshire. Presumably that was added because it was shot in Birmingham, which was historically in Warwickshire. I would have placed it in Category:Films shot in the West Midlands (county)‎, which is where Birmingham is now located. Unsure why that category is missing. Keith D (talk) 09:53, 7 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for your edits on research station wiki and enquiries

From achive 83

Hi there, I've just reworked the lead section of the research station article and added some images. If you have a moment, I would really appreciate any feedback on the edits. Cheers ---- Bubbleteafiend (talk) 09:53, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
@Bubbleteafiend: sorry for delay, I am catching up slowly from my break without an internet connection. Looking in better shape now, probably just some minor things to note.
  1. Seasons are usually not capitalised.
  2. The numbers need formatting, e.g. 49604.01 would read better as 49,604.01.
  3. References 3 & 12, I would split out the authors in to separate fields similar to reference 1.
  4. Reference 8 needs some detail filling in.
  5. Reference 22 looks like the author is in the wrong field & Ont. needs expanding.
  6. There is a mixture of date formats in the article, I would convert the few ISO style dates to day first format, that appears to be the majority.
Regards. Keith D (talk) 20:01, 12 June 2022 (UTC)
No worries hope you had a good break! Thanks for getting back to me and for the detailed feedback. Bubbleteafiend (talk) 08:53, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you

Hello Keith, Thank you very much for editing Beekeeping. I really appreciate it. You have amazing experience with Wikipedia, I would appreciate any help or advice that you can offer me. Best wishes, Thor909 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Thor909 (talkcontribs) 12:50, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

It is a while ago since I edited Beekeeping, I have more recently edited Beekeeping in Ireland to correct a date format error. Probably the same comments apply to both articles.
  1. The references need work on the authors/editors. Need to standardise on the format of first/last or last/first for the names rather than the mixture as at present. Spacing in initials as well need adding in a number of places.
  2. Date formats are a mixture of day first, month first and ISO formats plus some non-standard formats such as ref 85 in Beekeeping in Ireland. As it is a non US specific topic, I would go for day first format.
  3. Accessed or Retrieved in references again ref 85 in Beekeeping in Ireland is an example of one using Accessed.
  4. Some references need further detail, such as Refs 69 & 70 in Beekeeping in Ireland.
  5. Section "World apiculture" in Beekeeping needs some explanation of what the Asterisks mean in the table.
  6. Need some non-breaking spaces, to help formatting, adding between the number and million to stop line break at that point.   is the character needed for this.
That should keep you going for a time. Keith D (talk) 17:25, 16 June 2022 (UTC)

Please make me a file mover?

Hi Keith - hope this finds you well. Please would you kindly make me a file mover on en.wikipedia? I'm asking because I wish to rename Egerton Cooper to Alfred Egerton Cooper, to bring it in line with his Wikidata page, and with common internet usage of his name. I also need to correct my own typo in the filename of his (non-free) portrait, which is also on en.wikipedia. I'm already a file mover on Commons, but I now need that facility here as well. Thanks. Storye book (talk) 09:09, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Update: Oops - I find that I'm actually already a filemover for articles, but not for non-free image files on en.wikipedia - so I still need a tab for that. Please can you help? Storye book (talk) 09:30, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

... and another update. The article Alfred Egerton Cooper now has a free image (albeit awful) because I've been able to replace the en.wikipedia non-free image file. So all my immediate tasks are sorted. However I would still like to have the facility for moving image files on en.wikipedia? Sorry to have sent you such a fast-changing set of messages. Storye book (talk) 10:20, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello, I have given you File mover permission. Keith D (talk) 10:52, 18 June 2022 (UTC)

Dear Keith, thank you for fixing my citation. I'm very new at this and I had some gaps in my citation for the "National Serigraph Society" entry. If I understand the history notation correctly you fixed that and I'm grateful for that.(If I'm misunderstanding what happened I apologize). I added the name of an artist, who was my father, based on the Smithsonian interview which mentions his name. Thanks again. Best regards, Randy Warsager. Rwarsager (talk) 01:26, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

editing sandbox draft

Draft:Mark Addison

Hi Keith,

Thanks for making those fixes on my draft. It is far from finished, however. In fact, I'm still paring down text. I'm working in a Word draft and trying to edit into my wiki page, except I have not yet had a chance to add all my footnotes or load a photo and basic bio info. I was hoping not to attract editors' attention until I do, but I appreciate whatever expertise is offered. In fact, if you would like to instruct me regarding closing the spaces in that "contents" section, I haven't figured that one out. I used a Wikipedia page for another musician (Guy Forsythe) to model mine on. I would have used Wikipedia's bio template, but I was concerned about misinterpreting the instructions and writing over it. The version I used was clearly modeled on the bio template as well. ~~~~ — Preceding unsigned comment added by TexasEditor1 (talkcontribs) 22:33, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

@TexasEditor1: Hello, the Contents section that you have manually created can just be deleted as it automatically creates that as in the square box just above your manual entry. You can also delete the [edit] from the end of the headings as the software automatically puts in a blue link for this. Keith D (talk) 22:43, 25 June 2022 (UTC)

Constantine Zochonis

Please would you kindly give me advice about the above article, which has been repeatedly tagged with a notability/bio tag. In response to that tag, I have spent weeks in further research, finding more and more citations (all of which are secondary, independent and authoritative, and relevant to the subject, as were the pre-existing citations which passed DYK), but every time I remove the construction tag, the notability tag comes back. If you look at the article talkpage, you will see the long conversation I have had with that editor, but they seem to think that the citations are not about the article subject, and that the article is not about the subject, although I have no evidence that they have read the citations. So I am not sure what to do next. I have added a section in a balanced manner to the PZ Cussons article, where that editor wants to merge the Constantine Zochonis article, but I don't think we can wedge more than a short summary into PZ Cussons without overwhelming it. So what should I do next? Storye book (talk) 10:54, 29 June 2022 (UTC)

Hello, you appear to attract some problems. I have looked over the comments on the talk page and cannot see the user's problem with the article as it clearly meets WP:GNG for a stand alone article. As there are just 2 of you involved then you could try WP:Third to get a third party opinion on the issue, but depends on who takes up the task as to what the outcome would be. To get wider input you could try WP:RfC which may take longer, but would get a wider range of opinions. Keith D (talk) 17:52, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
Thank you, Keith. Bearing in mind that you have an opinion on the matter, is there any reason why you cannot contribute to the talkpage discussion? Meanwhile I'll think about your suggestions. My past experience in that sort of Afd setup is that it attracts deleters, but I shall see what I can do. Thank you again, for the advice. Storye book (talk) 19:57, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
I was leaving the possibility of WP:Third open and as I have had previous interaction with you I was trying to avoid any possibility of being accused of being on your side. Keith D (talk) 21:03, 29 June 2022 (UTC)
No worries. You are always scrupulously fair, I'm aware of that. Thank you again for your help. Storye book (talk) 09:21, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Reverting

When reverting make sure you revert bits you deem revertible. On the Yorkshire article I had also corrected the figures as some were inconsistent (councils, BUAs when they is a suitable BUASD and the odd BUASDs I am not even sure if some were fro. different years). I also added new photos both of these were valid edits. You did revert all four edits, surely not all of them should have been reverted.

I did try to cheat the template a bit seeing if I could fit the "official" city limit populations however it was probably what made you revert.

They are four city picture slots in template so the other three were put in separate and Doncaster by it’s self as it is between the status types, I’ll put it in with the York, W&R when it’s officially a city. I was also making notes so for when Doncaster moves over you could probably re-remove them if you want.

I’ve just now re-reverted with changes, put the town template in its own heading and removed council populations. They is still a need for 10 in the city template so the N/as are going to be there. Can you live with that or you can merge the city and towns back together if you can’t.

I am only bothered about the numbers and pictures. I spent the most time finding them, feel free to swap the odd photo. Chocolateediter (talk) 00:40, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

The table was fine as it was with just the cities, we should ignore the built-up areas and just go for the settlements for simplicity, readers who do not know about the intricacies of the situation will be confused as I was by the additions that were made. We just need a single table with the cities and their populations, ignoring and built-up area or wider area. If we cannot do a simple table then I would be in favour of removing the whole section from the article. Keith D (talk) 00:52, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Should I put Built-up area sub division in the reference for editors that would know the situation better so they know the type used for population.

Cities was in Yorkshire and Humber originally, I think. It was probably harvested from that article’s demography should it be placed into a section called as such or it could be spread out across the history section/article, the table info is covered in the ER, N, W & S Yorkshire articles so could be removed. Chocolateediter (talk) 17:44, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

I have been thinking about the article and probably come to a thought that you probably will not like. As the article is about the situation pre-1974 when Yorkshire was effectively abolished and replaced by the 4 separate councils, may be population should be only about the settlements, no mention of build-up areas, and should stop with the 1971 census which is the last census figures for the area. Things like Doncaster gaining city status in the future should also be removed as should other post 1974 things. Keith D (talk) 17:52, 30 June 2022 (UTC)

Lupton family

Dear Keith, RE Lupton family Citation number 5 does certainly state that Lupton House at Beechwood Estate is a "grade II* listed" building - ie "heritage listed". Can you fix this up please if there is still a problem? Hope this helps. T.

The only entry that I can find is Beechwood, entry 1375418, but the listed building description be Heritage England has no mention of Lupton House. May need some reference that shows the 2 are the same place. Keith D (talk) 08:42, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

@NahidShihab: Hello, I am probably not the one to look at moving page to main space as I cannot assess the references as most of them are not in English. On the general article you need to add wikilinks to other articles. It would be good to place the non English reference titles in |script-title= and add the English translation in |title=. You could also add the |language= detail. Keith D (talk) 23:34, 7 August 2022 (UTC)

  The Copyeditor's Barnstar
Hello, Keith,

I spend a lot of my time each day going through drafts expiring after six months of inactiivity. Well, today, I came across a lot of drafts where the last edit to the page, on February 13, 2022, was you correcting misspellings of the word "February". And it doesn't look like you used one of those speedy editing tools like AWB to do the corrections. You are an admin and there are a million ways you could have spent your time on the project that day and here you are, spending time fixing typos on draft articles. I think that is admirable! I can also see how you now have almost a half a million edits! Thank you to an admin who still spends some of their time editing and removing typos! Liz Read! Talk! 23:03, 13 August 2022 (UTC)
