Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button (  or  ) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. --SineBot (talk) 18:35, 31 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of POET Technologies

edit

Hello JordanBaldwin,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged POET Technologies for deletion, because it seems to be promotional, rather than an encyclopedia article.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Wgolf (talk) 19:21, 31 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Sorry bout that

Speedy deletion nomination of POET Technologies

edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on POET Technologies, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, product, group, service or person and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Reply to your contested deletion on POET Technologies

edit

I left you a reply to your contested deletion on the POET Technologies talk page. In case you didn't get a chance to read it before the article and talk page were deleted, I repost it here:

You said above [i.e. on the article talk page], “I have tried to document what this company is about and the technology by going through all of their information and using the least amount of promotional information as I can.” Basing the article on company sources is a fatal flaw: Wikipedia articles must be based on independent reliable sources. What you have written presents the company’s view of itself rather than the world’s view of the company (like a proper Wikipedia article).
To become a proper article it basically would need to be totally rewritten. If you want to do that, throw out everything you have, and rewrite, verifying all facts with references to independent reliable sources. Do not base anything on the company’s own sources.
Am I right in guessing that you work for the company? If so, please read Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. If you work for the company, that would explain why you are not able to recognize how promotional the article is. —teb728 t c 07:32, 2 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I see that the article was deleted also as a copyright violation. That is another bad result copying from the company as your source. —teb728 t c 07:32, 2 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thank you I will learn from this. No hard feelings, I was unaware of Wikipedia's stringent requirements. I am going to look around and study how other company articles are created and maybe colaborate with some other interested people to follow those templates and create an article using 3rd party validated information only from a purely objective reporting point of view. Thank you for helping me understand where I went wrong. :) you did good. MJB an imagination of little renown 15:21, 2 September 2014 (UTC)
