Phayre's sources

Hi Jon, I used Phayre's History of Burma as a source for a paper I wrote last year while I was an MA student at SOAS. Later, when I came back to the US, a professor at my current university criticized my use of Pharye, saying that, since he doesn't name his own sources, he can't be trusted. Do you find that to be true? What exactly were Phayre's sources? Are we able to ascertain which Burmese chronicles he drew upon?

It would be nice to set up a collaborative translation but I don’t know of a Mon font as of yet. Do you know of one? One of these days I’m going to get up to Songkhlaburi and learn spoken Mon too.

Unicode now supports Mon, Shan and two Karen dialects now. Here's more information on this. Also, if you need a font to work with Mon Unicode, here are the links:

Would like to discuss Burmese epigraphy with you

I am trying to study Burmese epigraphy. My own agenda is Tibeto-Burman historical linguistics. I am trying to think of a way that I can do something systematically that is good both for me and the world.
