Your ingenuous response on the Ramallah checkpoint query edit

...on the Miscellaneous Reference Desk (3.12, June 4) was probably more than the OP bargained for, and makes good reading for the rest of us (and nicer than I'd have written myself). Keep up the good work! (Oh, and my "contribution" to your User page was to strip off the prank "new message" banner - that you can certainly revert if you liked it, but please be advised that at least one fellow WP editor, namely yours truly found it an irritating waste of precious/scarcest-nonrenewable-resource.) -- Cheers, Deborahjay 22:44, 5 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Chutzpah edit

Jon, I'm assigning you a new project. Please see this page: Chutzpah. You need to rescue it, I had pain reading the stupidity here.

"The word derives from the Yiddish chutzpah (חוצפה). This, in turn, derived from the Hebrew word ḥuṣpâ (חֻצְפָּה)" Last I heard, Yiddish copies many words from Hebrew, like a 3rd of Yiddish is just pure Hebrew. There is no "Yiddish Chutzpah", it's the same thing. Chutzpah is a Hebrew word, this Yiddish stupidity needs to be removed. This showing of "shuruk" vs. "melupum" spelling of it in Hebrew is ridiculous too, Hebrew or Yiddish has no such requirements on which way it must be spelled. More stupidity follows with: "Related terms in Yiddish are khotsef (חצוף) and khatsufeh (חצופֿה)", again these are both Hebrew words, and are not of Yiddish origin. Please save this page. -Nach

Hi Jon. Thewebthsp here. I initiated a proposal to change the title of "Jew" to "Jewish people." Changing the title to "Jews" would be ok too. English, Germans what have you are under "English people," "Germans". Jews should be under Jewish people or Jews in my opinion, and many ppl who discuss this issue on the talk page (18?) were offended by the current title. I'm following wiki policy to the letter about this.

13 Principles edit

Re your revert on Orthodox Judaism: I'm not getting involved, but mandatory belief in the 13 middot is "only" according to the Rambam. There are those in the Orthodox world (e.g. Marc B. Shapiro among others) who point out that the Rambam's view was not unanimous among rishonim and contend that it was never canonized into Jewish tradition either. I don't personally agree with many of Shapiro's assessments, but it would be fairer (read: NPOV) to use more mitigating language here.--DLandTALK 17:17, 30 July 2007 (UTC)Reply

Pierbridge edit

In addition to it not having any context, it also is a non-notable company. Honestly, I could put G1 and it would fly, due to the fact that it meets so many criteria. Anyway, I appreciate your oversight-prevention. Thank you. Doesn't make that company notable. :P PumeleonT 15:46, 9 August 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • I apologize. In my zeal of RC patrol, I seem to have lost sight of "Don't bite the newbie" and "Assume good faith." It's just difficult to assume good faith when 25% of all articles are nonsense, local bands, personal autobiographies, or internet clan histories. I have not, and I will not revert Pierbridge for a while. I will, however put it on my watchlist. If it does not improve, I shall A7 it. Once again, you have my sincere apology. Thanks edit

Hey Jon,

Thanks for the fix to the banner on my page. I flagrantly stole the thing from Jay's talk page, and hadn't checked whether it was rendering properly in anything but my default browser. Also, as per request, . . .

Mrs. Rosenberg goes to the post office to buy a set of Rosh Hashanah-themed stamps to put on her New Year's greeting cards. "Nu, could I have 50 stamps for the Jewish New Year?" she asks the clerk. "Certainly ma'am, in what denominations?" She rolls her eyes, sighs heavily, and responds "Oy, has it come to this? Fine. Give me 6 Orthodox, 12 Conservative and 32 Reform."

Christain bias edit

Hi Jon. This page needs your attention: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jewish_commentaries_on_the_Bible I find it overally Christian. I also have a check waiting for you at my house. -Nach —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.138.233.55 (talk) 15:01, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

[sigh], This article was mostly cut and pasted from the Catholic Encyclopedia and needs to be completely rewritten. Do you want to rewrite it? (no? - neither do I.) (yes? Great go for it). I hope you can follow my "choose your own conversation" style of writing. Jon513 (talk) 17:17, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That would explain why it's so terrible. I'd also expect such an article to list everything found in Mikraoth Gedoloth, and a couple really more popular commentaries than it does. I don't particularly want to rewrite it, but I can give a quick list of what I think needs to be listed:
  • Targum Onkelos
  • Targum Yerushalmi
  • Targum YB"U
  • Rashi
  • Alshich
  • Sifthei Chachamim
  • Rimzei HaBa'al Haturim
  • Perush HaTur Ha'aruch
  • Ramban
  • Ibn Ezra
  • Ralbag
  • Seforno
  • Radak
  • Methudath Dovid
  • Methudath Ziyon
  • Clei Yakar
  • Torah Temimah
  • Malbim
  • Ohr Hachayim
  • Abarbanel
  • Minchath Shai —Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.138.233.55 (talk) 21:54, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

While there's a couple of others that should go on there, most of the other commentaries out there are collections, or a commentary on Rashi, not the Tanach directly. What I listed is also things you'd find in something like the Mikraoth Gedoloth or other similar works.

I'm all for choose your own style of writing. 89.138.233.55 (talk) 21:40, 19 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Domaine du Castel edit

I have nominated Domaine du Castel, an article you created, for deletion. I do not feel that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Domaine du Castel. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. You are now an administrator edit

Congratulations, I have just closed your RfA as successful. Take a look at the administrators' how-to guide and the administrators' reading list if you haven't read those already. Also, the practice exercises at the new admin school may be useful. If you have any questions drop me a message at my talk page. There seems however to be a bug with the Special:Makesysop interface at the moment so I haven't been able to actually make you an adminstrator. I'm going to try and chase down a developer to see what's happening and will hopefully get your userights sorted as soon as possible. Yours, WjBscribe 16:15, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

All fixed now - you are an administrator :-). Best wishes, WjBscribe 16:27, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Regarding Cory Adams edit

Hello, I apologize if re-adding the speedy tag to the article was inappropriate, but it seemed to me that this was a straightforward case. Although the article has been there a while, speedy delete doesn't refer to the article's age, and looking over the history, it seems that at no point did it every qualify as notable under the current criteria. CSD A7 says biographies have to establish notability, and the notability guideline for pornographic actors says they either have to 1) win awards 2) contribute significantly to their genre or 3) be featured in the mainstream media. Since the article doesn't establish notability in any of these ways, and has no mention that could even be construed as qualifying, it seems that it should be able to be deleted without much trouble. However, if there's something I've misunderstood about the policies and guidelines, I'd of course want to know TheBilly (talk) 20:16, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Advice on why you deleted my article? edit

Hi, you deleted an article I submitted on a known British model. I am totally new to wikipedia, so I have no idea why it was deleted? you stated, something to do with relevance? ok, so does this mean that the model in question is not important enough to be listed?

If that is the case, then what makes someone important? There are a few British models listed, one eg is kelly bell. So, can you please tell me what I did wrong in the article, and could it possible be retrieved and I will edit it accordingly (I spent 2 hours imputting all the links).
