File permission problem with File:Becky-allison.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Becky-allison.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (tc) 04:04, 2 April 2019 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of Eric Barbour (disambiguation)

A tag has been placed on Eric Barbour (disambiguation) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G14 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an orphaned disambiguation page which either

  • disambiguates only one extant Wikipedia page and whose title ends in "(disambiguation)" (i.e., there is a primary topic); or
  • disambiguates zero extant Wikipedia pages, regardless of its title.

Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such pages may be deleted at any time. Please see the disambiguation page guidelines for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. I wanted to learn other languages, but the story of the attempts went sorta like this. I'm just too white. Зенитная Самоходная Установка (talk) 00:32, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

I was just scoping out the story of how everything went awry

I am a generalist who happens to be a notable expert on sex and gender minorities editing under her real name That was your first mistake.

I'm also known for attempting to reform Wikipedia and problematic community conduct That was your second mistake.

I had acknowledged my COI That was the last mistake you ever made.

What you're supposed to do, is hide behind anonymity and be like, "Look, I don't have a dog in the fight, but I do believe policies matter, and I noticed some biased, poorly sourced material that I sought to render more neutral," yadda yadda yadda. That puts you on an even playing field with everyone else who is saying the same thing.

The reason is, Wikipedia is very concerned with appearances, and as soon as you disclose you have some kind of personal involvement in or attachment to an issue, they're going to worry that there'll be some media article about how a certain self-serving interest group or agenda-pushing ideological faction is "taking over" Wikipedia's articles about a certain subject.

In reality, that goes on all the time, but they try to be subtler about it and hide their motives. In actuality, you could be the one who's truly seeking after neutrality and fairness, but your sincerity doesn't matter if the situation could be twisted to look bad.

Also, people don't like the idea of "reforming" Wikipedia or problematic community conduct; if you say that's your goal, they're going to say that you're the problem and that if you don't like how Wikipedia is, you should go elsewhere.

There was one particular policy mentioned in your case, I'm not gonna say which one it is, but it was enacted several years ago by the guy at the top in response to what they feared was going to blaze out of control into a more serious media conflagration, and was total window-dressing in an attempt to keep from getting on the wrong side of a moral panic, kind of like some of the YouTube censorship that was imposed this year. The establishment is pretty relentless in its attempts to get this particular dissident group from gaining a foothold anywhere, and they've mostly done a pretty good job of it, although occasionally some stuff seems to fly under their radar or they just never get around to doing anything about it. Proposed deletion of Lothar Kalinowsky

The article Lothar Kalinowsky has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Not notable via A7

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. dibbydib 💬/ 02:15, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

I apologize

Hi Jokestress, I just wanted to apologize for the Andrea/Amanda screwup at ARCA. I didn't double check when I typed the suggestion, and it came up as a blue link so I didn't realize the mistake. Thanks for having a sense of humor about it at ARCA. ♠PMC(talk) 15:14, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

No troubles at all! It's a common mistake with my intentionally unremarkable name, as was the style for trans people at the time I chose it. Thanks for all the thoughtful deliberation over there! Incidental, accidental, edit to your User page

Greetings, User:Jokestress. Please accept my apologies for accidentally editing your User page. I had started this Wikipedia session at the Jackie Gleason page (reading up on his incidental music). That took me to the page for coronetist Bobby Hackett. A photograph there took me to the page for William P. Gottlieb. A caption of that photograph took me to the page for labor unionist Jacob Potofsky, which I spent some time making some copyedit improvements to.

Curious as to who had originated that welcome page, I went back in its history to you. I clicked on your user page to see who you were and see if I could douse out any relationship to Potofsky and got so absorbed in it I completely forgot it was a user page, and, thinking it was an actual biography at Wikipedia, reflexively added two carriage returns to create some white space in an overlong paragraph, making it more readable. It was only upon hitting return that when the page refreshed I realized it was your User page instead.

I meant no harm. Feel free to revert. The oversight, and intrusion, are mine. Yours, Wikiuser100 (talk) 21:27, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

No problem, @Wikiuser100:! I think I'll leave it. So you know my connection, I wrote bios for everyone on both of Nixon's enemies lists, which is how I came to write the Jacob Potofsky bio. Jokestress (talk) 21:56, 17 December 2019 (UTC)

User page content

Hi, Jokestress, you've been around for many moons and don't need to be templated with uw-userpage; but surely you must have run across the guidelines for proper content on a User page by this point. If not, it's here, and says that user pages "should not be used to indefinitely host pages that look like articles, old revisions, or deleted content." Please pay attention to section #What may I not have in my user pages?, in particular, subsection #User pages that look like articles. You already have a WP:MAINSPACE article about you, so I don't see why you'd want to duplicate that here, anyway. Why not just wipe out your user page and start over, talk a bit about yourself in the first person if you feel like, or add some userboxen of your choice, or what the heck, have a blank user page, and just a link to your article. Your call, really; only it shouldn't remain this way, per the guideline. Thanks for your many contributions over the years, and happy editing! Mathglot (talk) 08:47, 22 December 2019 (UTC)

Thanks for the note, @Mathglot:. I made some changes based on your suggestions and that guideline. Jokestress (talk) 02:37, 23 December 2019 (UTC)
