Being away

I'm sorry I've been away for so long, but I really don't have time to contribute significantly to Wikipedia at the moment. At work several large projects have been started in which I'm involved, and in real life I've got a new girl friend, and I'm sure you'll understand she's very important for me. Sorry to butt in here. No, that would not be a possibility. The NIV is copyrighted by the International Bible Society. To give us permission to put the translation on wikisource would be to release the translation under the GNU Free Documentation License, essentially allowing anyone to print and distribute the NIV - and keeping there from being any profit on it. All modern translations are copyrighted -- it is the way that the organizations who fund them are able to continue to employ translators and publish books. What we can do is use the {{bibleverse}}, which links to a variety of translations online; thus Matthew 2:13. That is my prefered method of linking to verses of the Bible, because it provides the reader the broadest range of translations (including copyrighted translations). No, your solution was fine, mooted the AfD and was a good solution. The only pointer is that when you do that sort of thing it might be a good idea to either suggest it first in the AfD. Close up photo

During Zhou Tong (archer)'s stint as the featured article, a discussion arose over the poor quality of the lead photo. Since you were one of the editors who did not like the old photo, I have just now replaced it with a line drawing from his biographical comic book. Someone had previously changed the photo, but it was too blurry and was no better than the original. Tell me what you think of the change. photographs for saints?

Hi there -- I noticed that you have added requests for photographs of a great number of Catholic (and other) saints. That's sort of puzzling because many of these people died hundreds or thousands of years ago, before the advent of any kind of photography, and in some cases may never have existed at all. So I'm not sure what anyone can do to fulfill those requests. Can you elaborate a little bit on what kind of photographs you were hoping to turn up? Thanks! -- Tim Pierce 03:27, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

• Thanks for your feedback. Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of people is bursting at the seams, with literally thousands of requests. A large number of these are articles for saints, and since the probability of anyone being able to find photographs of some of these seems vanishingly small I'm wondering if it makes sense to have them there at all. :-) Maybe these pages could be changed to {{reqphoto|saints}} to put them into a Category:Wikipedia requested photographs of saints category? I appreciate any help that you can give me on this page. There are several individuals who beleive that Morgellons is Delusional Parasitosis (DOP) despite quite a bit of evidence that it is not. All references that support their POV are overemphasized, place up front, elaborated upon. Any reference that do not support their POV are hit with weasel words, cherry picked, etc. I have been personally attacked many times, blocked, etc. My daughter has this disease and is very ill, so I am very concerned about how the disease is portrayed in wiki, since it makes it harder for us to get funding, congressional support, and scientists if the article is so biased. All I want is an article that says Morgellons is currently not recognized, sufferers report these symptoms and it is being investigated by the CDC. Something very neutral. Something that won't be damaging to sick children. There are several dermatologists who have been vocal that they think that the disease is delusional, but this is not the overwhelming majority opinion as they would lead you to believe. All new diseases have initially been dismissed as delusional -- lyme, AIDS, lupus, the fact that the doctors don't believe it shouldn't be overemphasized over and over again. I volunteer for the MRF -- they tried to have be blocked for this reason.

Thanks for your response. You taught me something I didn't know. But I still have a question lurking in the back of my mind (which you need not trouble yourself to answer, unless you find it gratifying): What good do projects do? What's the point of all this tagging and rating? Do better editors show up? I can tell you that in the articles related to Spiritualism, nothing good has ever come from a project tag (and Spiritualism now has four project tags)--no new editors start contributing to the article, there is simply no mass of knowledgeable people lurking behind the initial tagger, waiting to be shown articles that need some attention. The tagger shows up, places the tag, makes a presumptuous rating, and leaves. That's it. Wikipedia doesn't need projects; it needs people willing to write articles. Hello again -- it got late tonight and I didn't have a chance to get back to you about the RFC. In the meantime, Durova set full protection on the article until August 18, so the urgency for the RFC is less.

An RFC is needed, but the article protection allows time to organize it so visiting editors won't get overwhelmed by the emotional POV-pushing that's been happening there by at least four editors. I don't know how much you've had a chance to read, but it's been going on for a long time - way before I came around to help calm things down.

Question about one of your assessments

I was reading Benjamin I of Alexandria and noticed you rated it as Start. I would have rated the article as B as it seems comprehensive, and is referenced very well. I was just wondering what your justification for rating the aritcle as Start is. Psychless 13:12, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Basically, my justification was that it contained more or less only the information which I was able to find in a single source, the source I used. On that basis, I couldn't be sure that there might not be other information easily available as well, so didn't feel comfortable saying it was complete if I knew I had only used one source in writing it. A-class review for Andrew Saul

Hi, thanks for participating in the A-class review, one of the things I had hoped by listing it in the A-class review was that it would stimulate the GA-review which has been languishing since the article was 1/3rd of the size it is now. I have a feeling it will be approved without much comment, right now I think the three biggest issues are possibly excessive detail in some spots, use of one non-free image, and a section which basically repeats something another article on wikipedia says verbatim (however, they are both made from USGov't material, and I couldn't explain it any better myself without doing original research). Please explain why you consider the Lindsay Lohan article to fall under the auspices of Wikiproject Kabbalah. There is not a single mention of her holding Kabbalah beliefs in the article; if she does indeed follow that belief system, then without mention of it in the article, how does it rate a "B" class under that wikiproject? Amusement park project assessment

Hi, The assessment statistics for the amusement park project was not working (yet?) and I discovered that the project template that Will created was tagging the articles as "High-importance amusement park articles" with small initial letter and singular park, but you had set up the categories with Amusement Parks articles (initial cap, plural). I had noticed the discrepancy and started creating the new categories (lower case and singular) before I realized the significance for the statistics bot. SO... I think I have it running correctly now (went with lower case and singular, put them in the Version 1.0 categories, etc., got some statistics). There those extra categories, but I categorized those in category:Amusement park category to be deleted since I was not sure what to do with them. WP:EUROPE Proposal

Hi, I was wondering if you would be interested in participating in a new "WikiProject:Europe"? It would cover non-EU pan European elements and more national elements where there isn't a project to cover it (e.g. there is no project for Slovenia). I was also thinking that WP:SEUROPE might want to form the base of it, essentially just dropping the south, as there aren't many members and the scope overlaps with other projects. Dear John,

As a longstanding contributor, I'm sure you appreciate the the success of Wikipedia depends on being able to grow our community, and welcome new members. As such, I'm sure you also understand the motivation behind WP:NEWBIES. Could I therefore ask you to please review your comments and edit summaries w.r.t. new users [2] [3], especially when your judgement was based on hearsay and continued to deviate from fact, and when a conflict of interest existed because you had recently nominated an article for ACID which the nomination mentioned above was in competition with. Remember that IP users are not intrinsically evil, and let common sense and benefit of a doubt prevail. My take on matters is that nominations of articles that need more work are intrinsically good and that newcomers contributing in this way should be encouraged.

naz article importance

so you just change them to importance rather than priority? i did that on accident once, and it wouldn't register as anything but a deprecated parameter. what's up with that? just that the cotn wikiproject is using deprecated parameters for their tags? or am i completely out of my mind? Could you help me out

Hey John, could you help me out. I redid the Kabbalah template (you know the main one) but for some reason the listing of categories doesn't come out on the bottom of the template. As you already know I'm not great when it comes to HTML or wikitext or whatever you want to call it. So could you help me figure it out, thanks. 21:02, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

No not that one. The one that banner one; with the subtopics. Here, I'll show you this one:

As you can see it says Categories but there are no categories in the banner; but they are there in the edit page, they just don't come out.

Wikiproject:Terrorism

Greetings,

I was hoping I could get some input from you, about the proposed mergerof Wikipedia:WikiProject Terrorism and counter-terrorism with Wikiproject:Terrorism. It seems there's a lot of overlap between the two projects, and if we spent a few days merging the lists of articles, sharing ideas and collaborating on improving the same articles which both projects are focused on improving...we could really make some headway. Im sending you this reminder because you volunteered to mentor my students in English Advanced B as they become contributing members of the Wikipedia community. We start working with Wikipedia in earnest next week. I ask you to take a look at your entry in the Mentor Table at Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Mentors

Please update the information, esp. with what your technical and informational expertise is or, if you have decided that you no longer want to participate, please remove your information from the table. Please watch the pages associated with the project. Students will contact you via your user page and as soon as my students have user pages, I will put them on the navigation bar associated with the project.

I don’t need to remind you that your job is NOT to write their assignments for them, of course. I certainly will tell my students that… and the fact that you are volunteers that don’t have to help them… so they need to be nice. If any students misbehave (tho I don’t expect it) don’t hesistate to contact me and I will take care of it. The goal of this project is to integrate successfully into the Wikipedia community. Anyway… what I really need your help with is helping students get oriented to Wikipedia, make appropriate changes and write about appropriate topics (see Wikipedia:School_and_university_projects/ITESM_Campus_Toluca/Syllabus for assignments). I also need your technical expertise… I am only an English teacher after all! I appreciate what technology does for us but I am no technical expert!
