Hi, Thank you for your edit, and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm pretty sure the PRC considers the Qing cession of Taiwan illegal and void, because the PRC has repudiated all of what they term "unequal treaties" that were signed in the 19th century. The line of argument following the Japanese instrument of surrender was considered a "bonus" if you will to strenghen Chinese claims, in the eyes of the PRC. As the unjust treaty argument is popular only with the third world, it's an argument that the PRC has tended to downplay; however PRC publications always refer to Japan-controlled Taiwan as "occupied." Re: Thank you for your concerning, Ngchen! First, about your doubt of my will to strengthen Chinese claims, I must declare that, on this very problem, I am quite neutral. The reason why I made this edit is based on the two vital post-WWII declarations made in both in Cairo and Potsdam. E.g. in the Cairo Declaration, it was stated that, "The terms of the Potsdam Declaration would be carried out and Japanese sovereignty would be limited to the islands of Honshū, Hokkaidō, Kyūshū, Shikoku, and such minor islands as the Allies determined.", thus excluded Taiwan and affliciated islands from the Japanese sovereignty. As for the Potsdam Declaration, the statement is even more clear, "Japan should return all the territories stolen from the Republic of China including Manchuria, Formosa, and the Pescadores.". Therefore, it is indeed reasonable to make this change.

As for the explanation of the change made by me given by you that "the PRC considers the Qing cession of Taiwan illegal and void, because the PRC has repudiated all of what they term "unequal treaties" that were signed in the 19th century", I am really afraid that there's a severe misunderstanding about my statement between us. You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment.
