My apologies edit

You must pardon my mistake at Kelly Clarkson. I edited under a previous version of the article which had been vandalized and did not realize I was conducting a newer edit within the same page; I did not see that I was removing the categories and languages! My apologies for my mistake! —Eternal Equinox | talk 22:06, 2 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Joseph Pasquale AfD edit

Hi, I wanted to talk to the author of that (now deleted) article, but I don't know who it is (and I'm not an admin yet so I can't check the history). Could you look into the history and maybe let me know what user made it? (I'm bugging you since you were the closing admin). Thanks JoshuaZ 03:17, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

The author was User:Joepasquale. It's not an active editor, his only edits were to that article, so I'm not sure if leaving him a message will reach him, but you can always try :) Kind regards, --JoanneB 08:07, 5 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, in that case, would it be possible for you to userfy the content of the article to my userspace? I think Pasquale is actually notable(and at the time of deletion, most of the people on the AfD seemed to think so) and would like to start another article on him. Thanks. Sol Invictus edit

Hi JoanneB. Thanks for the request you transmitted regarding the Sol Invictus coin. Unfortunately, it is used on Wikipedia under fair use, so it is probably not available for other reproductions. Regards PHG 21:39, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I am not quite sure anymore where the original image was. Similar ones can be found at [1]. Regards. PHG 21:56, 6 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

A shiny new barnstar! edit

  The Barnstar of Diligence
This is a special shared barnstar between ILovePlankton, JoanneB, Mopper & Where. This barnstar is awarded for helping me out over the past few days with wording things more politely and civilly when I'm prone to just typing what I'm thinking (which isn't always the best thing - that internal censor thing needs new batteries). Thank you for putting up with my crap now and in the future. :P The four of you are really exceptional Esperanzians (and Wikipedians). —       nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Mike Southall edit

Why have you deleted this article? A MBE by definition cannot be non-notable - they have been honoured by the Queen. Also as it happens this guy was relevant when it came to Scouting/youth activities on the Isle of Man. There's far more important thinks to do than delete other people's articles just like that.Manxy3 09:33, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

There are more than 100,000 living people that are members in the order of the British Empire, so that alone does not make someone notable. Also, that someone is really relevant to some specific kind of activities in a specific area, does not warrant an article either. I didn't delete this 'just like that' though, I was asked to look into it, did quite a bit of research (among others, this Google search), drew my conclusions and deleted. In my opinion, the article did not assert any notability, and was therefore speediable. And, yes, there are more important things to do, as you can see from my contributions, deleting articles is far from the only thing I do. I hope this has clarified things for you, I know it can be really frustrating to see the work you have done, deleted. --JoanneB 09:57, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
OK thanks for the reply. Can I ask who asked you to 'look into it' please? Manxy3 12:54, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply
I'm sorry, I can't. The e-mail was sent to info-en@wikimedia.org. E-mails like those are processed with the OTRS system, I'm one of the volunteers answering and acting upon those e-mails. Problem that needs fixing edit

Hello, I'm posting this to you as you're an administrator. Upon browsing the alerts section of the Esperanza page, I noticed that someone (User:Evadb) was stressed about another user (User:IP Address). I looked into why and found an important set of discussions, starting here and growing increasingly less civil (the whole conversation is on IP Address's talk page, with some of it duplicated on Evadb's talk). The dipute comes from edits to the article Richmond Herald, where, if you see the history, you'll notice back and forth edits between these two users. The article has been changed back and forth 31 times, with just the dispute about the external link being changed. Without the content of the dispute coming into play right now, I believe something should be done administratively (ie: Page protection, User warnings (specifically IP Address for personal attacks), or user blocks (again, for IP Address, as he's been blocked previously for 3RR and Personal Attacks)). I hope this is not too much of a bother to you, but I just felt something should be done as it seems that the situation has-been/soon-will-be getting out of hand. Thank you, Chuck 14:11, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for alerting me, I'll be looking in to this. --JoanneB 14:39, 7 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3 edit

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.

My conflicts with User IP Address edit

Dear Joanne, Thanks for your advice on my issues with this editor. I've taken the liberty of sending them on to him, as well. Hopefully, we can return to some form of civil communication on this matter. Having the style guide to look at would be helpful, as well. Once a consensus is reached, I have no problem following it. Thanks, too, for calling me on becoming uncivil. I will try not to let that happen again. Peace.--Eva db 07:33, 8 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

AfD George Harbottle edit

No problem, what you did is great. Thanx. It was late at night and I was just disgusted that I had wasted all that time researching a hoax. I had started out trying to read the most recent archive of Talk:Esperanza and had gotten distracted chasing that weasel down a rabbit hole. I just wanted to nominate the article for deletion and go to bed. In my hurry, I failed to follow the complete "AfD" procedure. Thanks again.

--Richard 06:24, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Being a newcomer to Wikipedia (since March 2006), this was the first article that I nominated for deletion. I'm not sure that I will do this very often but I'm curious in understanding how your tab works anyway.

Mostly from a "techie" point of view, I'm just generally curious about what kinds of software tools are available. I've copied your monobook.js into mine and am playing with the tabs. I haven't completely figured out what they do. If you can point me to a tutorial, I'd appreciate it.

Category:British Cypriots edit

I am the person that you have punished for 1 hour blocking few months ago because I was destroying the category:Greek Cypriots and u didn't allow me to put in on deletion and u told me to discuss since it has been created by a lot of effort.

Similar thing happened yesterday, when I had created the category British Cypriot and an idiot guy called User:Mel Etitis. I am pleased if you behave with the same way that u behaved to me, by dropping it from deletion and warning him from block since the category was created by a lot of effort by me. —User:KRBN 11:23, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

I think those things are not similar. Changing a category without discussion is not the same as putting a category up for deletion. The latter enables the community to talk about it for a couple of days and therefore can't be compared to emptying or renaming a category. It's probably a good idea to tell Mel Etitis why you don't agree with him, that's what talk pages are for. Mel is not an idiot guy in my opinion, and he'll listen to decent arguments. I'm not saying that you can convince him, but please try first before you draw that conclusion. --JoanneB 12:50, 12 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nice Message edit

B That was a nice message to stillstudying. I felt quite badly that he was leaving, since, you probably gathered he got caught up in MyTwoCents personal vendetta against me over the Bonnie and Clyde article. He got accused of being a sock puppet - not a particularly nice charge, especially when there was not only no evidence, but every admin - and person, 3 emailed me - that read his edits and mine, saw that there was no resembalance between the two. ANYWAY, i just came to say it was very nice of you, and Charlie, to encourage this new contributor to stay, and not let one very POV'd and very nasty (to those who dare disagree with him) contributor drive away someone who seems to be intelligent and able to contribute a great deal. BESIDES, as he put it, he can say in several sentences what it takes me 42 paragraphs! You have to keep that kind of brevity! LOL! old windy bear 21:08, 15 May 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for pickuping up on me accidentally wiping half the BBC off of the face of Wikipedia. I've been having difficulty with previews chopping off half of the article of late, and I obviously didn't check carefully enough. Anyway, I managed to salvage what I could from my original edit, and the shortened introduction is now back without rendering the BBC into the Bb. Thanks again for the good work.
