Conflict of interest

edit

  Hello, JoannaG31. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places, or things you have written about in the article Draft:BFFs (film) ‎, you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a COI may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic, and it is important when editing Wikipedia articles that such connections be completely transparent. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. In particular, we ask that you please:

  • avoid editing or creating articles related to you and your family, friends, school, company, club, or organization, as well as any competing companies' projects or products;
  • instead, you are encouraged to propose changes on the Talk pages of affected article(s) (see the {{request edit}} template);
  • when discussing affected articles, disclose your COI (see WP:DISCLOSE);
  • avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or to the website of your organization in other articles (see WP:SPAM);
  • exercise great caution so that you do not violate Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you must disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation (see WP:PAID).

Please take a few moments to read and review Wikipedia's policies regarding conflicts of interest, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, sourcing and autobiographies. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 05:45, 28 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Hello --Orange Mike I'm not sure if this is how to reply to you..? I made a general inquiry about the possible COI, and would love some guidance on how to fix this. I wasn't aware that I was supposed to announce my connection to the film I am building a page for... I am a producer on the film, so it seemed to fall on me to build the page! Do I need to scrap the work I did and have a stranger build it? Not really sure how else to make a page for BFFs. I tried to be as factual (non-opinionated) as possible, and cited and resourced everything I referenced. I appreciate any guidance you can offer. Best, AndreaJoannaG31 (talk) 00:14, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

The various blue links in my message take you to the various guidances we offer. Basically: you are the worst possible person to be writing about your own project because you want it to look good and hope the project will do well. If somebody who doesn't have a financial interest in this project wants to create such an article, they can do so; but even then, their sources should be impartial third parties, such as newspapers (including the trades when articles are not just regurgitated press releases). --Orange Mike | Talk 04:09, 31 March 2017 (UTC)Reply
