Help edit

{{helpme}} Jason A says my entries are self serving. I am trying to make them just like the other entries. I copy the pattern of the other entries. I say this play is an adaptation of the subject (for example Wizard of Oz) and performed at this theater and give a few details. My entries keep getting deleted! I try so hard and they get deleted! And no one tells me specifically why. Am I getting deleted because I am talking about my own play? If that is so, then you are just creating the circumstances where people will not use their real names when they register. Can facts only get listed in Wikipedia if they come from people who are not involved? I am telling you facts, facts just like the other facts on the page. Can I change something to get them accepted , or is it just forbidden that I submit an entry that is about something that I did?

I also want to complain about how confusing your notices and directions are. I had a heck of a time figuring out to write on this page, or even finding this page, and the place on it to ask a question. I do not even know if I am doing it correctly now.Jnet-jquish (talk) 14:49, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Yes, you're doing fine; sorry if it's confusing. Any ideas on how to make it easier are very welcome - maybe at the village pump.
It is very strongly recommended that people do not edit when they have a conflict of interest, simply because it is so hard to remain neutral. We suggest that the best approach is, instead, to suggest changes on the articles discussion page. See WP:BESTCOI for advice on that.
Perhaps the most important thing to realize is that all facts should be supported by an appropriate, independent reliable source. Any unsourced statements can be removed by other editors.
Please feel free to post any further help requests here, or, you might prefer to talk to us live, with this or this.
Best wishes,  Chzz  ►  14:55, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

To maintain its objectivity, Wikipedia has a guidelines about conflict of interest. I'd encourage you to read the whole thing, but in its simplest form, it says that we generally shouldn't add information about ourselves or things related to us. That's because we can't really be objective about them. I may think that my new book is a great and important piece of art and literature... but maybe it's not. So I leave it to others to decide whether it should be mentioned in Wikipedia. In order to be useful to people, Wikipedia is not trying to include every piece of information on the planet. If it did, it would be impossible to find the notable information in it. To be honest, I don't think (for example) a new play about zombies, produced once by a regional theatre company, is notable enough to be mentioned in the zombie article. It isn't something that someone wanting to learn about zombies would be likely to find interesting. That's the real standard for including something in Wikipedia, and like I said... we can't judge that accurately about our own work. - Jason A. Quest (talk) 15:26, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

Welcome and introduction edit

Hi, Jnet-jquish. This is NOT some automated message...it's from a real person. You can talk to me right now. Welcome to Wikipedia! I noticed you've just joined, and wanted to give you a few tips to get you started. If you have any questions, please talk to us. The tips below should help you to get started. Best of luck!  Chzz  ►  15:05, 19 October 2009 (UTC)Reply

ようこそ
  • You don't need to read anything - anybody can edit; just go to an article and edit it. Be Bold, but please don't put silly stuff in - it will be removed very quickly, and will annoy people.
  • Ask for help. Talk to us live, or edit this page, put {{helpme}} and describe what help you need. Someone will reply very quickly - usually within a few minutes.
  • Edit existing articles, before you make your own. Look at some subjects that you know about, and see if you can make them a bit better. For example, Wikipedia:Cleanup#2009.
  • When you're ready, read about Your first article. It should be about something well-known, and it will need references.

Good luck with editing; please drop me a line some time on my own talk page.

There's lots of information below. Once again, welcome to the fantastic world of Wikipedia!
