La Belle Titcomb

Hi Jfbarlow, thank you so much for adding information to the La Belle Titcomb page I started. I really appreciate the information about her father's death in particular. "McEinbett" is also a misspelling of her second husband's actual name. I would love to see any more information you have managed to gather, you are correct, there is not much record of her after the 1920s. I have traced her until about 1925 and have found nothing after that date. I suspect she died abroad as she was performing/touring the world extensively after Nat Wills died. I am going to make small edits to your changes to make the tone more neutral to conform with Wikipedia standards. John B. Mason

Jfbarlow: A long long time ago I read a book on Mrs. Fiske(Minnie Maddern Fiske) written by Archie Binns. Binns wrote that one of Mason's ex-wives was blackmailing him or something like that in order to receive a large cache of alimony. Mrs. Fiske came to Mason's rescue and put a stop to Mason's ex-wife looting him. Mason died not too long afterwards It must've been the second wife Katherine Grey. That book on Mrs Fiske was published in 1956 but I haven't read it since the 1980s. Copies might be on Amazon.com or Alibris.com. Cheers Koplimek (talk) 01:04, 9 September 2011 (UTC)

Hi. I enjoyed your new article on May Yohé, and I fixed some of the references for you. You should check out WP:MOS. The images shouldn't overlap each other and pinch the text so much, so I redistributed them. By the way, is her birth name Mary or May? You had a note in the article that May was an acronym (perhaps for Mary Augusta Yohé?), but what is your source for that statement? Also, you need to add dates for the shows in her US career. The article is looking better and better! Yes, old sources often conflict. Good job with the research. Where you cite the New York Times or any other newspaper, could you please add the title or heading of the story cited? Also, of course, a page number is needed wherever it is available. BTW, if one or two good sources give the information for a fact, you don't need to cite three or four sources in a row. I have left you some hidden comments where I thought that something seems to be missing. One problem is the ancestry.com Historical Newspapers, Birth, Marriage, & Death Announcements section does not give page numbers, only image numbers. I can retrieve page numbers from The New York Times though through a library source. John F. Barlow (talk) 21:02, 22 September 2011 (UTC)

I'm thinking Robert Thomas was the son of May Yohe, it's the father who is the mystery. The Portland druggist's name was Thomas, not Thompson as the original newspaper article indicated. The adoption took place 1908 or 1909. The father was said to be a British Columbia mining man. John F. Barlow (talk) 03:13, 23 September 2011 (UTC)

Jf, kudos to you on this article. I wanted to do her entry for the past two or three years. I collated a lot of the info but just kept putting it off. So imagine how surprised I was going over your contribution list and ran smack dab into her entry. Surprises all the time. Most people don't know of her as she never did movies and her theatrical career lasted only nine years. Did you find it hard to discover that she died in a car crash with her mother? Hi JfBarlow, The article you created for Lightnin' (play) looks just fine. I'm not sure of 'procedure of precedence' that's discussed. Most certainly the film is derivative of the play, as is usually the case when a motion picture is made of a play, novel etc. It's not a golden rule I would wager as Spiderman running on Broadway came after several films and animations. But it appears just fine to me.

The Silent Voice (play) is redirecting to the playwright because the article on the playwright himself is a fresh article but the 'cookies' used by wiki is still reading the name of the play which his name was under for a long time. Don't worry, I did the same thing with the Dorothy Donnelly article when I created it several years ago. It had been some other previous article that I started or something and was not needed so I converted to the Donnelly article. Matter of fact, cookies might still lead to the Donnelly article as a redirect from what was previously listed. Don't worry it takes time for the cookies to get accustomed to the traffic going in and out of your new article on the playwright. This happens on wikipedia a lot, consolidating an author and his work or a director and his film or different versions of the same story under one title. It makes it difficult to separate once someone gets around to writing distinct or separate article for each version. For example Six Cylinder Love(combines the 1931 Spencer Tracy version with the original 1923 I created, now I got to separate them), or the 1924 silent Merton of the Movies which has existed like that for years. People in the theatre routinely lied about their ages (and the ages of others), including the men, often telling huge whoppers. In any case, it would be interesting to find out when she graduated from the conservatory. It is certainly a head scratcher that her Her career didn't begin until around 1880, so even if she was born in 1857, she would have been 32 or 33 22 or 23 then. If she had been born in 1849, as the Times indicates, she would have been 43 33 when she played Iolanthe. Infoboxes

Hi. I do not think infoboxes on the actor/singer/writer biography articles are helpful (although I agree that they can be helpful for athletes and politicians). They contain only duplicate information that is (or should be) already discussed in the LEAD, sometimes contain information that is not that important, and more often than not attract errors. They also take up space that is better used for other purposes. This has been a contentious issue on some articles. Do you mind removing the box that you just added to William Brough (writer)? I haven't asked you to remove any on articles that you created (though I do not think them helpful), but I'd ask you not to add them to others. Wikipedia's rule on the matter is that whether or not an article has an infobox is to be decided on a case-by-case basis by a consensus of the editors working on the article. If you don't mind, let me set forth at slightly more length my thoughts about infoboxes for the sort of actor/singer/writer bio articles that we have worked on together (obviously, some Wikipedians disagree): The boxes are repetitive and do not emphasize the most important information, as the narrative LEAD section can do so well. Also, the box often limits the size of the first image and takes up valuable space at the beginning of the article. Some of the information typically in them about death, spouses and children, for example, are not so important that they should be the first thing that readers see. All of the other information in the box is carefully set forth in the correct sections of the article, with references. The infoboxes often accumulate errors, that are hard to catch and other inconsistencies with the rest of the article. I also think that starting the article with the infobox template makes the article look technical an inaccessible to new editors who might wish to contribute to the article. -- Ssilvers (talk) 01:33, 7 January 2014 (UTC)
