Black people

Escalators and travelators

The split looks okay. However, i am wondering if travelator is the more common name than moving walkway. What do you think? Simply south 22:02, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Its probably okay for now. It seems to be very common after i've done a quick google search, although according to ne dictionary website, moving walkway is a British term. Here in the UK, I've not heard it so frequently and heard travelator more frequently. But it may just be here. I think it will do as moving walkway. Simply south 22:18, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Pasty

Commercial use of Image:Fishslice1.jpg

Almouth

Given the length of time you have been contributing, I was very surprised to see you make some very fundamental mistakes:

• if a new title is felt appropriate, we always use the move command. Using copy and paste destroys the article history.
• there is a well established standard that UK railway station articles will have lower case 'r' and 's' in their titles
• having created Alnmouth For Alnwick Railway Station, however bad the title was, it was rather silly to create a redirect to a different title! (If you had used a move, the correct redirect would have been created anyway!)

In any case, I suggest that we stick to the station name that National Rail use until they change. -- RHaworth 05:26, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Citation for cup sizes on Starbucks

Hey, I was the one who provided the initial cite on the cup sizes for the Starbucks article. The reason I chose to put it there was due to ongoing edits of 24 ounces as the size for iced venti cups -- there had been debate over whether it was 24 or 26, so to quell the edit warring, I cited the specific size there. Balustrade

Wetman is completely correct the terms refers to the entire certain and particular assemblage and not a handrail. I have given a definitive modern reference on Wetman's page. A balustrade can serve as a form of decorative parapet, protective edging or fencing. It can serve as a handrail when used on a staircase but it is far from the same thing as a handrail. Thanks for the input. I have replied on Wetman's page. The only thing that I find irritating is that Wetman decided to insult my intelligence rather than just arguing calmly. I may not be an expert on architecture, but I have heard the term balustrade being used in the context I cited, so I checked dictionaries to see if I was correct (again, admitting that I don't know everything). I found that the dictionaries backed up the defintion I'd heard, and I updated the article based on that as the current information was uncited.--Jcvamp 22:26, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

Semi-Vegetarian

RE. your recent update to Vegetarian page -

• Flexitarianism (sometimes called semi-vegetarianism) — A diet that consists primarily of vegetarian food, but that allows occasional exceptions.

- I think if vegetarian means not eating animals, then you can't have a semi-vegetarian, any more than you can have semi-unique. I don't feel strongly enough to change it, but you may want to if you agree. Thanks Bob98133 01:56, 27 June 2007 (UTC)

MOSNUM

Skene's gland page

Hello! I am writing in regards to the Skene's gland page. I think getting into an undo/re-do edit cycle on the page would be unproductive, so I would love to instead have a discussion where we work towards a common ground on how to best approach presenting some of the information on the subject. The current literature on the glands does reflect that there is a bit of controversy surrounding how one is to refer to the organ — female prostate is starting to eclipse the usage of Skene's gland, but the latter is still in use in a few circles/contexts — and I am always interested to understand why certain groups/individuals lean more towards one term as opposed to the other. Based on what I have read, my edits tried to highlight 'female prostate' as the dominant term while also indicating the term 'Skene's gland' is also used, whereas the original form of the article had the reverse. As your edit indicates, the original form is one you find to be more fitting, and were you to have the time, I would very much appreciate getting to exchange some of the information that we have both read so that the best form possible can be achieved for this article. Hi. The issue I have with changing the term throughout the article is that it's a major change and it requires citations to show that 'female prostate' is now the correct or more dominant term. I have no personal preference, and any individual's preference is irrelevant; it's solely about whether or not any claims made in the article can be substantiated. If you can clearly support that with citations, changing the article to reflect that is fine. In either case, adding a section about terminology that explains that 'female prostate' is starting to become more prevalent and any controversy surrounding certain terms, again with citations, would be a good idea.--Jcvamp (talk) 12:07, 30 March 2020 (UTC)
