Welcome edit

Hello Jcandy and welcome to Wikipedia! I'm glad you've chosen to join us. This is a great project with lots of dedicated people, which might seem intimidating at times, but don't let anything discourage you. Be bold!, explore, and contribute. Try to be civil by following simple guidelines and signing your talk comments with ~~~~ but never forget that one of our central tenets is to ignore all rules.

If you want to learn more, Wikipedia:Tutorial is the place to go, but eventually the following links might also come in handy:

Float around until you find something that tickles your fancy. One easy way to do this is to hit the random page button in the navigation bar to the left. Additionally, the Community Portal offers a more structured way to become acquainted with the many great committees and groups that focus on specific tasks. My personal favorite stomping grounds are Wikipedia:Translation into English as well as the cleanup, welcoming, and counter-vandalism committees. Finally, the Wikimedia Foundation has several other wiki projects that you might enjoy. If you have any more questions, always feel free to ask me anything on my talk page. Again, welcome! -- Draeco 06:55, 9 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Marshall Rosenbluth edit

Hi. It is great that you are expending the Marshall Rosenbluth article. I just had to remove the university of texas memorial text because text copied verbatim is probably a copyright issue unless we get explicit permission. Otherwise, it is looking good. --Bucephalus 14:19, 11 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Benny "The Jet" Urquidez entry edit

Hello Jcandy,

I just reviewed the history of the Benny Urquidez entry and noticed that you wrote its initial major sections, and that you subsequently attempted to maintain a neutral point of view with facts supported by legitimate citations, often defending the entry against bogus speculation. Unfortunately, this entry has now drifted dangerously in the direction of "biased points of view" and "original research". In my personal opinion, as an experienced national newsstand magazine editor and motion picture producer, parts of this entry now could be construed legally as libel. It seems to me that much of the questionable content began with Japanese source citations that cannot be verified by English-speakers and which, in at least one case, I have confirmed as misconstrued or flatly incorrect.

I would ask you to look at the STAR System website in which, at the tail end of the homepage article "Setting the Ring Records Straight," I delineate all the distortions I have discovered in the Urquidez entry. Since my friend John Corcoran and I originated the STAR System world kickboxing ratings and this website, I thought you might want to review its contents and assist in pulling the entry back in the direction of neutrality, verifiability and simple basic fairness to Benny Urquidez.

Thank you, Paul Maslak (talk) 05:26, 19 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Upcoming interview with Benny Urquidez edit

I plan a direct interview with Benny "The Jet" Urquidez for publication within a few weeks. If you have any biographical questions that you would like answered for inclusion in his Wikipedia entry, please leave them on my talk page. Paul Maslak (talk) 22:46, 9 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Introduction to contentious topics edit

You have recently edited a page related to COVID-19, broadly construed, a topic designated as contentious. This standard message is designed as an introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.

A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. These are specially designated topics that tend to attract more persistent disruptive editing than the rest of the project and have been designated as contentious topics by the Arbitration Committee. When editing a contentious topic, Wikipedia’s norms and policies are more strictly enforced, and Wikipedia administrators have special powers in order to reduce disruption to the project.

Within contentious topics, editors should edit carefully and constructively, refrain from disrupting the encyclopedia, and:

  • adhere to the purposes of Wikipedia;
  • comply with all applicable policies and guidelines;
  • follow editorial and behavioural best practice;
  • comply with any page restrictions in force within the area of conflict; and
  • refrain from gaming the system.

Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. If you have any questions about contentious topics procedures you may ask them at the arbitration clerks' noticeboard or you may learn more about this contentious topic here. You may also choose to note which contentious topics you know about by using the {{Ctopics/aware}} template.
