Welcome edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. Experienced users are supposed to welcome new editors. There is a nice welcome tag but I'm too lazy to put it on. I got no doubt someone else will. The user page is not the same as the discussion page. Both are tabbed at the top. Messages go on this page, the discussion page. The user page will stop showing red when you put something on it. I would say you should, even if only one word (I've seen "Hello") so as to avoid the impression of a total newcomer or a fugitive or predator avoiding justice by concealing his experienced WP identity. For the issue that brought you on, you're on your own. This is a typical WP entry, very contentious. WP is a most contentious place, in my opinion.Dave (talk) 01:41, 6 February 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello again edit

Hello there. Sorry that thing with the mountains did not work out. I hope you don't get discouraged. I'm sure there are a lot of contributions you can make. The problem with not contributing is this, and I have encountered this problem in a large number of circumstances. WP is growing and the public is willing to pay for it. Increasingly we cannot get away from it. If we get indignant and proud and refuse to contribute anything then we are in a default situation. We are by choice leaving the encyclopedia to others probably a lot less sensitive and a lot less qualified. So then, we are going to see only trash articles. I've been disgusted a number of times. Overall however I have made about 27000 changes and only 57 were reverted. My first article on here was attacked and deleted. I was called a religious freak and they explained how they did not want any religious freaks around here. You always have to ask who, however. By now you may have read the latest from Wikimedia Foundation. You see there really is a problem with the experienced driving off the novices. I'm not sure what they are going to do about it but I am heartened by the cognizance. I just read a user page by a young man who is going to tell us how to write the English language and DARES anyone to stop him. It is pretty easy to get arrogant on here. The figures show that there are plenty of cliques and commercial interests here. They have a number of tricks to make life pretty uncomfortable. They get their buddies to chime in also. On the whole though I have some good editing on here even though I get pretty disgusted sometimes. So I would say if you want to help give the people accurate information, don't give in to the cliques, just let it all run off your back like water and you may often be pleasantly surprised. You sound to me as though you may have some valuable insights on Italian culture. Thanks for your interest and thanks for contacting me. I was probably your best chance of getting the article changed but we were overridden. Even if you could have changed it probably someone would have changed it back. Que sera sera. Well I got to go now but you should not think what happened to you never happens to anyone else. This is very large cross-section of literate humanity and I am absolutely certain you must know how hard it is to get agreement.Dave (talk) 15:23, 11 March 2011 (UTC)Reply
