Re: Black or Cursed Pearl??? edit

Regarding your message: Use "Cursed Pearl." It is termed "Black Pearl" in the show; however it was colored black only in Palau. The Cursed Pearl in the first season was actually silver, so it is inappropriate to call it a "black" pearl. Therefore, the Pearl is termed according to its function rather than its color just for consistency across seasons. Ja 1207 will also agree on "Cursed Pearl" as well. - 上村七美 (Nanami-chan) | talkback | contribs 08:55, 2 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Re: Nielsen Soundscan edit

(Your question:) Hi! I just want to ask where did you get the number-one albums for the years 1978, 1979 and 1980 that Nielsen Soundscan had compiled. Nielsen Soundscan was created in 1991. How was it possible for it to already compile these charts without creating itself yet? Janbryan (talk) 04:08, 6 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Answer: I did not create the part about Nielson Soundscan; it was already there. I added the parallel RPM charts because they were used as the standard from at least 1968 onward and ran for some time simultaneously with Nielson's lists.

You will see that starting at 1981 (right up to 1990 and beyond), there are further such lists. I would have completed the addition of the RPM parallel lists, but it is time-comsuming in the extreme. Someday I'll get to them. User talk:Scarbluff

Formal Note re: potential COI Editing and the risk of violating Wikipedia'a Terms of Use edit

Dear Janbryan

In our recent talk page discussion where I took umbridge for appeared to be an attempt to edit for pay without disclosure, you told me that I should do what I was gonna do [sic]. I am leaving you this note to advise you that I have considered what that should mean. I have reviewed your last thousand edits or so and found no evidence of a concerning pattern of behaviour wrt paid editing. However, I do believe, on the balance of probabilities, that your attempts to create Daniel Margotta was a direct action as a paid editor - and the concerning pattern of behaviour was also noted by another editor commentating in his estimeed role as a talk page stalker.

What is frustrating is that all the TOU requires you to do is to declare the payment on your talk page and for you to edit according to the COI rules. That you chose to obfuscate and deny the obvious simply made a marginal situation concerning and is actually the only part of the whole thing that gives me pause for considering action.

That said, I will not be taking any formal adminstrative action at this time. I am leaving this message (which I expect will immediately pass into the memory hole of your talk page history) to formally record my concerns and confirm that I have formally warned you about the potential TOU violation and drawn your attention to the COI rules. I will also periodically check your contributions for evidence of further attempts at undeclared paid editing. If I see anything concerning I will then consider what further action is required. Remember: all you have to do to comply with the rules and TOU is to declare the payment/agreement to act. If you do that, I will not have cause for concern. Asian 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. If you would like to see this happening for Asia, and see potential in this attracting more interest and editors for the country/countries you work on please sign up and being contributing to the challenge! This is a way we can target every country of Asia, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant! Thank you. --Ser Amantio di NicolaoChe dicono a Signa?Lo dicono a Signa. 04:54, 20 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

About 32nd Luna Awards and 33rd Luna Awards - maybe a WP:REDIRECT to Luna Award#Ceremonies? edit

Hi Janbryan,
I note that according the award's Wikipedia article history section there is a note that there were no awards given in 2009 in what would have been the "28th Luna Awards".
Instead of deleting 32nd Luna Awards and 33rd Luna Awards, maybe they should be redirected to Luna Award#Ceremonies for their years with a note that the Film Academy of the Philippines declined to make an award in those years?
What do you think about this? Pete AU aka --Shirt58 (talk) 10:53, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

I've declined the spedy tags you placed on these articles, because the reason you gave is not covered by any of the WP:CSD#criteria for speedy deletion. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 12:11, 7 December 2016 (UTC)Reply

Filipino vs. Philippine edit

I advice you not to change Philippine to Filipino in film articles released in the Philippines. Just because some articles use "Filipino" as a way to start the lede doesn't mean we shall follow suit. Take 3 Idiots for instance: as you can see in the lede, it doesn't use the descriptive as a "Hindi film" (the language spoken in India) but an "Indian film" (the citizens of India). In our case, the word Philippine may refer to the nationality of Filipino citizens or their language. So it's best to start the lede by the film's country of origin's nationality. Besides, MOS:PHIL also says that Philippine is generally used with inanimate nouns. Bluesphere 04:58, 9 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

List of highest-grossing films in the Philippines edit

The sources you provided are not reliable. A reliable source should show the exact box office figures and not the rough estimates. Another thing that bothers me is that most press releases does not indicate whether the gross was earned outside or inside the Philippines. Let me remind you that the article is about the highest-grossing films IN THE PHILIPPINES. Hollyckuhno (talk) 02:32, 15 April 2017 (UTC)Reply

Date format edit

When adding references to articles, please make sure the dates you've used in the reference are consistent with the dates used on that article—please observe whether date or month comes first, and format the dates appropriately (so, either 12 June 2017 or June 12, 2017 will be used). Also, there is no need for the language parameter if the site is in English. It is redundant. Thank you. Ss112 22:54, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Janbryan, I can't explain why other people have chosen to do what they do on chart pages; I didn't monitor Closer (The Chainsmokers song) into 2017 to see who was still adding what. I personally disagree with adding new song peaks to an old article beyond a certain point; the chart is new and just because it exists does not mean its peaks should be added to every possible article. That's all I have to say. Talk:Juju on That Beat (TZ Anthem) is a more appropriate forum for this discussion, not either user talk page. Ss112 23:49, 12 June 2017 (UTC)Reply

Canadian Screen Awards edit

Actually, Fan Choice does need to be separated from the "special awards", because it's not the same thing by any stretch of the imagination. The special awards do not have "nominees" — the Academy simply picks a single winner as a "lifetime achievement" award and announces that winner as a fait accompli months before it's even announced the nominees in any other CSA category — whereas "Fan Choice" has nominees that social media users get to "vote" on. Which means it does have to be handled differently, because in a multiple-nominee category our article is supposed to be listing all the nominees and not just the winner alone. If it's being done that way in other CSA articles it's not supposed to be — if 1-5 are doing it wrong, then that's not a reason to make 6 do it wrong too: it's a reason to fix it in 1-5. Cai Cortez moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Cai Cortez, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. 2019 US Banknote Contest edit

  US Banknote Contest
November-December 2019

There are an estimated 30,000 different varieties of United States banknotes, yet only a fraction of these are represented on Wikimedia Commons in the form of 2D scans. Additionally, Colonial America, the Confederate States, the Republic of Texas, multiple states and territories, communities, and private companies have issued banknotes that are in the public domain today but are absent from Commons.

In the months of November and December, WikiProject Numismatics will be running a cross-wiki upload-a-thon, the 2019 US Banknote Contest. The goal of the contest is to increase the number of US banknote images available to content creators on all Wikimedia projects. Participants will claim points for uploading and importing 2D scans of US banknotes, and at the end of the contest all will receive awards. Whether you want to claim the Gold Wiki or you just want to have fun, all are invited to participate.

If you do not want to receive invitations to future US Banknote Contests, follow the instructions here

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Karnal poster.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Karnal poster.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
