Edit warring/3 revert rule

Hi Jamieclaymore. I'm one of Wikipedia's administrators and I'm posting here because another editor has raised concerns about some of your edits. You were informed about this in one of the messages you had before you blanked your talk page, but to save you going back through the page history the relevant thread is on the Administrators' incidents notice board here.

What immediately struck me when I looked over your edits was the number of reverts you made to Claymore (manga). In Wikipedia terms, tit-for-tat reverting like that is called edit warring and is specifically against site policy. As an absolute maximum we permit no more than three reverts per article per day (see the three-revert rule). You've made eleven by my count. Under normal circumstances I'd now be issuing you with a 24-hour block for breaking 3RR, but because you haven't been editing long and may be unaware of this policy I'll settle for a warning instead. Please be very careful not to edit war in future, and be very wary of treating 3RR as permission to revert even just three times. Administrators tend to enforce the spirit as well as the letter of the policy, so if you edit war again you could find yourself being blocked without further notice.

Having said that, it might also be helpful for you to try to discuss edits more on article talk pages. We encourage everyone to be bold, but we also expect editors to collaborate with each other in a polite, friendly manner as far as possible. If you make an edit, and someone else reverts it, the correct approach is then to discuss with them what their concern was (without reverting them back!). Between the two of you hopefully you can come to some agreement about the disputed content. If you find you can't resolve disagreements with other editors, or it seems like they're rejecting your edits for no good, policy-based reason, you can turn to Wikipedia's dispute resolution measures to help out.

It's unfortunate that you feel that way, but of course you must decide where you can best spend you time. You are clearly knowledgeable about the subject and keen to contribute your expertise, but you must also be willing to work within site policy to edit here. For what it's worth I can appreciate why you became frustrated; I have pointed out to the other editor involved that they could have been more receptive to the changes you were making on the articles and your talk page suggestions regarding sourcing. It may be that there are good reasons why the Claymore articles are the way they are and why your edits were unsuitable, but it may also be that a little more give and take on both sides could have avoided the dispute altogether. If you do change your mind about leaving, you might find Wikipedia:WikiProject Anime and manga useful in assisting with various article guidelines etc in this subject area.
