Administrators' newsletter – April 2019

News and updates for administrators from the past month (March 2019).

  Technical news

  Miscellaneous

  • Two more administrator accounts were compromised. Evidence has shown that these attacks, like previous incidents, were due to reusing a password that was used on another website that suffered a data breach. If you have ever used your current password on any other website, you should change it immediately. All admins are strongly encouraged to enable two-factor authentication, please consider doing so. Please always practice appropriate account security by ensuring your password is secure and unique to Wikimedia.
  • As a reminder, according to WP:NOQUORUM, administrators looking to close or relist an AfD should evaluate a nomination that has received few or no comments as if it were a proposed deletion (PROD) prior to determining whether it should be relisted.

Another minor bot change

Would it be possible to make the bot prefix its comments with ** instead of :* per Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Accessibility#Lists? * Pppery * has returned 23:30, 26 April 2019 (UTC)

Wow, that was fast! * Pppery * has returned 14:32, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
This caused a display problem when merging duplicate reports. To fix it, you need to blank line before the second report when doing a merge. * Pppery * has returned 22:52, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
Taking a look now, I can see the issue. — JamesR (talk) 23:13, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
No, it looks like the extraneous blank line was added by XLinkBot, not this bot, and the original behavior of adding a newline was correct. Sorry for the confusion. * Pppery * has returned 23:43, 27 April 2019 (UTC)
