Scotland Now edit

Hello, Jackf834, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I noticed that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been undone for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of your contributions being undone, you might like to draft your revised article before submission, and then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. See our help page on userspace drafts for more details. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

One rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which imply that the account belongs to a company or corporation. If you have a username like this, you should request a change of username or create a new account. (A name that identifies the user as an individual within a given organization may be OK.)

Here are some pages that you might find helpful:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your messages on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically insert your username and the date. If you need help, check out Wikipedia:Questions, ask me on my talk page, or ask your question on this page and then place {{Help me}} before the question. Again, welcome! --John (talk) 11:22, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the heads up, I appreciate the concern re conflict of interest, but I can assure you I have the utmost respect for the integrity of Wikipedia as a neutral, reliable source, and as such any additions I have made / will make are motivated solely by a desire to improve wikipedia, nothing else. I have no interest in using Wikipedia for self promotional purposes (I fully understand that this would be impossible anyway). Jackf834 (talk) 11:35, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

3rr warning edit

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. --John (talk) 11:25, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, don't worry, I'm not interested in an edit war - I'm discussing the matter with the other editor. Jackf834 (talk) 11:29, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
You say that but I don't see you posting at Talk:George Galloway yet you're at three reverts. Are you affiliated in any way with the film Scotland Now? Your editing pattern looks highly suspicious as all you have really done is add links to this film. What's going on? --John (talk) 11:45, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I posted at Talk:Tariq Ali, and have stopped reverting. I am affiliated to the film "Scotland Yet", but I have not attempted to misrepresent it, or anyone featured in it. As is patently clear by this exchange, that would be a pointless endeavour. I am just trying to put noteworthy information onto Wikipedia, I'm sure if you read through all my submissions, you'll see that I have gone to great lengths to maintain neutrality. Jackf834 (talk) 11:55, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for being honest, and sorry for getting the title wrong. Please read the text and links in the first message I left you, and follow the good advice therein. --John (talk) 11:58, 12 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Jack Foster (film maker) moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Jack Foster (film maker), does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. March 2019 edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We welcome and appreciate your contributions, but it appears you have written or added to an article about yourself. Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). If you wish to add to an existing article about yourself, please propose the changes on its talk page. Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was the page I created deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. Speedy deletion nomination of James Devoy edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on James Devoy requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a real person or group of people that does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator.
