September 2008 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Cary Williams. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Zukhits / COI edit

Hi JPercy. Thanks for the note. Conflicts of interest, as you will see if you read the linked page, do not mean situations where an editor writes about a topic he finds interesting (such as my not very good edit of Convective instability), but situations where the editor has a personal interest in the subject (e.g., the editor owns the subject company or is a family member of the subject individual).

With respect to the Zukhits article, I don't see any reason to believe that the subject warrants an encyclopedia entry. The claims of notability are very weak, and the references don't really help demonstrate it.

  • "Zukhits is widely known and respected amongst independent artists for his conceptual edge and his ability to transcend stylistic boundaries." This is a broad generalization which is not specific enough on its own to be of note. If there were a reasonable number of notable independent artists who referenced Zukhits specifically in interviews, etc., that might (or might not, depending on who and how) be something I would consider notable.
  • As you can see from the talk page, I spent a while looking at the references. None of them appears to meet the "significant coverage" prong (let alone in "reliable sources that are independent of the subject") of the criteria set out in Wikipedia's notability guidelines.

You are correct that there are tons of articles that do not satisfy WP:N. However, that is no reason to keep a specific article on a non-notable topic. See WP:OSE for a discussion of this.

Generally, my advice on improving the article is dependent on what information really is out there. If the subject is notable (for example, if the unreleased album is released to wide critical acclaim), then find appropriate claims of notability ("won the Hip Hop magazine award for best first album in 2008") and reference them correctly. Otherwise, if there are no material claims of notability to be made, blank the article and recreate it when there are. But a lot of editors disagree with me, so YMMV.

Hi JPercy. As mentioned, the fact that other articles share traits with the subject article doesn't mean that those traits are consistent with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. However, you're free to disagree with me and edit in any manner consistent with the guidelines. Enjoy, Bongomatic (talk) 01:16, 4 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism of Zukhits edit

Hi JPercy. Deleting tags without comment and without addressing them with edits to the article is vandalism. Please do not do this. Bongomatic (talk) 04:26, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Zukhits edit

You wrote:

Could you please stop the mark for deletion while I work on getting the appropriate press? Zukhits is a credible producer just like any other producer. I really would appreciate your patience while I continue to work on this page.

Actually, the preferred way to work on articles is to do so in your own user space (e.g., User:JPercy/Zukhits--indeed, you can click on that link to create the page) and then copy the article into a newly created article in article space once it's ready for release. Since nobody else seems to be editing this particular article, you don't need to worry that the article is missing valuable input from others.

As it is, I don't plan to discontinue the AfD process as I don't think the current article belongs in Wikipedia. But I wish you luck in creating an article that does belong here. Bongomatic (talk) 17:09, 6 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hey there. First, just a few things that will help make things easier for you on Wikipedia. Whenever you're adding to a talk page, use the "new section" or "+" link at the top. This will create a new section for your message at the bottom of the page. Posting at the top can cause your post to be missed or cause formatting issues. Second, make sure you sign your posts with ~~~~ so people know what you wrote, and so Sinebot doesn't cause edit conflicts.

If you can improve the article enough to avoid AfD, you'll need to remove the cruft (excess fluff, praise that appears biased, etc) and you'll need to make sure that everything notable is sourced. You also need to maintain a neutral point of view and make sure that you do not imply any sort of high (or low) standing with communities, or basically anything else that might seem personally for or against the subject. Focus on notable things about the subject, and what you can prove. Ask yourself "Are people who know nothing about this subject going to care about this information" as well as "Is this information that genuinely contributes to the article, or is it inconsequential?". Also, source, source, source. And make sure they're reliable sources. Fansites don't always qualify as a reliable source, so you may have to dig around for legitimate news articles.

That's about all I have to offer at this point. Happy editing!  Hazardous Matt  21:33, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Also, take into account the critique of sources on the Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zukhits page. This should help give you an idea of why the sources are being brought into question.  Hazardous Matt  21:38, 9 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Zukhits edit

I have nominated Zukhits, an article you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zukhits. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time. Zukhits edit

Hi Jpercy

While the page reads somewhat less like an advertisement, I don't think it's eliminated all the fluff.

  • "Always eager to improve and fine-tune his music and production skills." Not a sentence, but seemingly ad-like anyway.
  • "He had the opportunity to personally observe Hernan Santiago who has worked with music industry giants including Lauryn Hill, Mary J. Blige, and Ice-T." Advert-like and irrelevant. Observing a notable person is not notable.
  • "In 2002, his diligence and dedication led to him being a featured producer on the independently released album, Kingz Kounty." Advert-like.

But don't bother editing them on my account unless you have improved references. My main issue with the article is the notability of the subject. I normally don't nominate articles for AfD just for being ad-like, as that is something that can be changed with editing. However, lack of verifiable notability is a different issue. As you can see from the top of the AfD, I don't consider any of the references to be "significant coverage". I know you disagree (you have made your views known on the AfD page), so I will not do a non-admin close of the AfD discussion (though if other editors agree with your perspective, and the article is kept, I won't nominate it for a second AfD).

By the way, it's the convention to leave comments at the bottom of people's talk pages. You can click the "new section" or "+" tab at the top of the talk page to create one easily.

Speedy deletion of Zukhits edit

A tag has been placed on Zukhits, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where an article has substantially identical content to that of an article deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Bongomatic (talk) 04:09, 16 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
