Clean up activities on references

Good job! We always need people to help work on our backlog, it always getting more and more massive. I saw on your user page that you are 18, mind if I ask if you are attending a college? Right now we are really trying to reach out to campus communities, that is why I ask. Sadads (talk) 14:58, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

And on the references clean up, you may want to see if you can get permission for AutoWikiBrowser that could make it alot easier for you to do the reference thing. Sadads (talk) 15:00, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah I do attend college, but it is a very small. And I will look into AWB. Thanks. --J36miles (talk) 15:13, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

You might want to look into what they are doing at WP:WikiProject United States Public Policy and the Outreach Wiki. If you are interested, we want to include as many colleges as we can in the outreach and Public Policy initiatives. Sadads (talk) 15:27, 9 July 2010 (UTC)

listas

I've come across some listas edits of yours today and want to warn you to be very careful.

  1. I've done my fair share of wrong edits and I'm still learning, so don't take this the wrong way and please continue adding listas.
  2. Talk:Bai Hua   The name is Chinese. Alot of Asian cultures have surname first. So, the proper listas is listas=Bai, Hua
  3. Talk:Samuli Kivimäki   Only use the 24 letters in the alphabet plus "." and "-". The funny "a" character shoul be listas=Kivimaki, Samuli

Some good resources are WP:SUR, top of listas talk, and naming articles such as Chinese name or Thai name.

I'd stay away from any Asian, Arabic and Icelandic names for the time being. If you want to do an asian name, study the customs for that country. My favorite is Burmese names.... they don't have surnames and they change their name whenever they feel like it. You did an edit for a Nepalese Lama that I had passed over... I haven't found out how to do those properly... so pass over a name if you aren't sure how to do it.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:49, 15 March 2011 (UTC)

Template:Metsmanager

I see that you nominated Template:Metsmanager for speedy deletion under speedy deletion criterion T3. I agree that it is an unnecessary duplicate of Template:New York Mets managers, but it does not satisfy the other part of the criterion, namely that it is not being employed in any useful fashion, as it is transcluded in ten articles. If you would care to change those transclusions to the other template, then I think speedy deletion would be entirely reasonable, but for the moment I have declined the speedy deletion. JamesBWatson (talk) 21:08, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads up. I went through and replaced the template in the necessary articles. --J36miles (talk) 02:48, 31 March 2012 (UTC)

Discussion report

Hi there! I'm Ed, the editor-in-chief at the Signpost. Thanks for helping out! Your discussion report is a good start, but I think it's going to need a bit more context to make it fully understandable without going to the RfC itself. In addition, traditionally and originally the section was meant to cover all of the biggest discussions. I don't think you have to write reams of text on the other discussions, but perhaps you could add an "In brief" section, similar to the "News and notes" beat? (there are resources here that you can use). Last, are you intending to write this on a weekly/bi-weekly basis? Just trying to factor this into my planning. Thanks again! Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 01:16, 2 June 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for your input. I used the April 30th Discussion report for an outline, but I have added an In brief section(which still needs some work) and will work on the top section. About my plans for writing in the future, I am currently unsure. If this turns out good, I could possibly write bi-weekly. --J36miles (talk) 03:15, 2 June 2012 (UTC)
Eh, I wasn't with the SP then, I'm just trying to follow my own vision. :-) Bi-weekly would be awesome if you could manage it. Ed [talk] [majestic titan] 07:17, 3 June 2012 (UTC)

July 2012 Study of authors of health-related Wikipedia pages

Dear Authors/J36miles

My name is Nuša Farič and I am a Health Psychology MSc student at University College London (UCL). I am currently running a quantitative study entitled Who edits health-related Wikipedia pages and why? I am interested in the editorial experience of people who edit health-related Wikipedia pages. I am interested to learn more about the authors of health-related pages on Wikipedia and what motivations they have for doing so. I am currently contacting the authors of randomly selected articles and I noticed that someone at this address recently edited an article on Fibrodysplasia ossificans progressiva. I would like to ask you a few questions about you and your experience of editing the above mentioned article. If you would like more information about the project, please visit my user page (Hydra_Rain) and if interested, please visit my Talk page or e-mail me on nusa.faric.11@ucl.ac.uk. Also, others interested in the study may contact me! If I do not hear back from you I will not contact this account again. Thank you very much in advance. Hydra Rain (talk) 00:18, 12 July 2012 (UTC)

Getting Wikimedians to the Olympic Games

Hi. I am part of an effort to get Wikimedians access to the 2016 Summer Olympics as accredited reporters and photographers. Part of this effort includes covering the 2012 Summer Paralympics. Two Wikimedians have credentials to attend these games as reporters through Wikimedia Australia. As English Wikipedia does not allow original reporting, this is largely through Wikinews with a project page found at Wikinews:Paralympic Games. If you are interested in helping to get Wikimedians to the next Summer Olympics,I'd encourage you to assist with Wikinews efforts, and also to work on all language 2012 Summer Paralympic Wikipedia articles before, during and after the Games to demonstrate a track record of success. Thank you. --LauraHale (talk) 04:40, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Heads up about Signpost error

Hello, thank you for contributing to The Signpost! However, your article contained a minor typo in the headline that I have noted at the Signpost's talk page. "Hotcat" should have been "HotCat"; [[the use of CamelCase, or bumpy caps, is a proud tradition on many wikis including Wikipedia. The name of the software that powers this wiki, MediaWiki, is also a CamelCase word. Graham87 13:08, 27 September 2012 (UTC)

Current Roster showing Not 2013 roster

You started with 2013 Phoenix Mercury season page. For the roster you used a template. That template, at least in the way you used it, pulls in the current roster (2014) and not the 2013 roster. This same problem can be seen on the 2013 Connecticut Sun season, 2013 Seattle Storm season, 2013 Los Angeles Sparks season pages that you started, and likely any others that used that same scheme. Speedy deletion nomination of Category:Industrial buildings completed in the 21st century

A tag has been placed on Category:Industrial buildings completed in the 21st century requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks!

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Invitation to join the Ten Year Society

Dear J36miles/Archive 1,

I'd like to extend a cordial invitation to you to join the Ten Year Society, an informal group for editors who've been participating in the Wikipedia project for ten years or more.

Best regards, Chris Troutman (talk) 11:57, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Senegal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics moved to draftspace

An article you recently created, Senegal at the 2020 Summer Paralympics, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please click on the "Submit your draft for review!" button at the top of the page. buidhe 17:39, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

I think an IP wants to vandalize it. I have watched the page, so if they make an account and succeed, I'll revert the edit. Just pointing this out for you. -- L10nM4st3r (talk) 09:59, 11 May 2022 (UTC)
