Re: external links to fan sites

Admittedly I did get a little trigger happy removing fan sites, however there are still a number of them which should have been removed per policy. I'd say looking at WP:ELMAYBE I'd say the  • .bungie.org sites are fine, as they'd meet the requirements. In fact, halo.bungie.org is an article here. That's always a safe bet, and it's my fault for not noticing. The Traxus Wiki is probably safe too, but the links need to be updated to [traxus.bungie.org]. Other than the list below, the only thing I'd say is that you can list the main site once and it's good. So instead of http://marathon.bungie.org/story/necedemalis.html, http://marathon.bungie.org/spoiler/m3/ and http://marathon.bungie.org/, just use http://marathon.bungie.org/.

Since I'm a list guy, it's easier to list Bungie-based-article sites that seem like they don't meet policy:

Got your message, sorry for the late reply. I'd say the link you listed is very useful to the articles. It should probably go in. Wow, you've obviously been doing some sleuthing, to have found that old post and then found me here. Well, I was paraphrasing from memory, but I knew I read that in one of Watsuki's little "free talk" pages at the end of one of his issues of RK. I just found it at the end of Act 147 (which is in volume 17 in my translated Viz collection). And I quote:

“ A little while ago, I finally saw the theatrical version of Evangelion (I'm writing this in August). It was obvious that the people who created it didn't love the story or the characters, so I'm a little disappointed. But the dramatization, the movement, and the editing were superb. When the story led into the self-improvement seminar, I was nearly fooled for an instant. I don't know if most people enjoyed it, but as a writer, I was able to take home something from it. ”

Well, to get any decent material on Eva, you have to sleuth through a maze of dead links, uncited assertions, contradictory sources, etc. So finding you was no big deal; the luck was that I was trying to find out what happened to the Terminal Dogma book project and saw your quote.

But it's a good quote though I'm not entirely sure about 'self-improvement seminar'. (I guess he approved of the harpies eating Asuka, but disliked Shinji's introspection?) I've added it to End of Evangelion#Reception, flesh it out a little. --Gwern (contribs) 03:04 6 November 2009 (GMT)

Thanks for the quick fixes to the "Platform(s)" field in Oni's Infobox. You are also very clever to differentiate the two Mac platforms (I've been reformatting a list of video games during the past couple of days, and you would be amazed at the number of times I've needed to ask for clarification on the platform "Macintosh" :-).

Note: The "Supported platforms" section of the Vgclegend template does handle both Mac platforms. See "MAC" and "OSX".

IA

There is an API for the WaybackMachine - send a URL and a date and it returns the best available snapshot closest to that date. The work of determining if its 404 etc is done by the API. -- GreenC 17:06, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Oh, hello! I didn't see this message until I was done leaving a follow-up question on cyberpower678's page. I probably wasn't clear enough the first time. I'm basically asking about 404 responses that get saved in the Archive, creating snapshots that no one actually wants to use. But maybe your response answers my question. Does the IABot specifically look for a snapshot from the time period when the URL was originally added to the page? I suppose it could do that if there is a template around a URL which gives the date the URL was added. I had trouble finding the core logic for the snapshot lookup in IABot's code. --Iritscen (talk) 17:28, 17 May 2017 (UTC)

Yeah it can determine when the link was added by using the MediaWiki API, stepping through the revision history, then it calls the Wayback API with that date. -- GreenC 17:37, 17 May 2017 (UTC)
