Welcome! edit

Hello, Iriszhou99, and welcome to Wikipedia! My name is Ian and I work with Wiki Education; I help support students who are editing as part of a class assignment.

I hope you enjoy editing here. If you haven't already done so, please check out the student training library, which introduces you to editing and Wikipedia's core principles. You may also want to check out the Teahouse, a community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to helping new users. Below are some resources to help you get started editing.

COM 482 Introduction edit

Hi, my name is Hamin. I'm also talking COM 482 as a student this quarter and fingers crossed, hoping to have a good experience in this quarter. Hmk0110 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 18:26, 9 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Welcome! edit

Welcome Iriszhou99 (again!) to both Wikipedia and to COM482!

I saw that you picked Street food. Honestly, I'm a little concerned by this choice. Although I urged you to pick a stub in the syllabus, I noticed that the street food is B-class (which is good!), has been the subject of previous WikiEd assignments, and is really quite advanced with 75 citations, etc.

Is there a particular part of the article you are trying to improve? It might be worth making that clear. I'm worried that it's going to be hard for your classmates to give you feedback and so on with an article that is in such good shape already. —mako 15:20, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Using User talk pages edit

I also noticed that you didn't do complete Task #2, Part 2 (i.e., practicing to communicate on Wikipedia). This is an important skill to master before you starting making live edits so I hope you do this! —mako 15:23, 19 October 2020 (UTC)Reply

Feedback on your draft edit

Greetings Iriszhou99!

I saw that you're continuing to move forward with the street food article and that you've added two paragraphs to the article about Korean and Chinese food (plus a number of minor issues that seem due to normal divergence).

  • There are issues with the English and grammar on the text you changed. You should carefully edit them.
  • If you look at the diff you'll see that you've added UW library proxy information with your link.
  • I wonder, why did you choose to add to street food instead of regional street food which is linked to prominently from the page you mentioned? It seems that some of the information you added to street food might be more appropriate for that other page which already has sections on these topics. What do you think?

Please do a pass on your article as soon as you can and then let me know. I'll give your article another pass before I give you the final go-ahead to make your article live. —mako 18:05, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Moving article edit

I noticed that you just created a new page Regional Street Food with a copy of Regional street food. I think you were trying to create a page in sandbox which should be User:Iriszhou99/Regional street food. Some other Wikipedian saw that and turned your new page into a redirect. —mako 21:53, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Benjamin Mako Hill: How can I fix this? Iriszhou99 (talk) 21:55, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Iriszhou99: It looks like you've already moved things over to User:Iriszhou99/Regional street food so I think you should be set and can continue working in that sandbox space! —mako 21:57, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Iriszhou99: Actually, it looks like you created at least four copies:
Remember, upper-case and lower-case are different in Wikipedia so even though it looks similar, these are different pages.
My advice is to slow down and try to be a little more intentional and careful here. Which one do you want to be your "real" sandbox? My suggestion is that you should make it be User:Iriszhou99/Regional street food but you should carefully look at the history for all the others and find out if you've made changes to those places you want to move over to the "real" sandbox. Once you have done that you can replace all the other ones with redirects. You can do by editing the other pages so that they redirect to your real sandbox. There is information on this page WP:REDIRECT. Once again, read carefully before you edit. Then edit and check carefully. If you're confused, you can always click on the "Contributions" list on the top right of the page and you can see what you just did and where you just edited. —mako 22:07, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
@Benjamin Mako Hill: I may have already used the 'Regional Street Food' as my main sandbox page where I do all the edits. I redirected my other two to my main one, but I am not sure if it worked or not because it didn't directly transfer me to the new one. Iriszhou99 (talk) 22:20, 2 November 2020 (UTC)Reply
