AFC Submission for draft: FoodBeeper declined

Hello, You reviewed my article and declined it because of the references. I can understand why you declared some unreliable, but is the language also a barrier? My article is about an Algerian food delivery service and all the sources I could find are either in Arabic or French. I thought that since Algeria is rarely covered on Wikipedia I should add something about its developing economy and digital lifestyle. However, I wonder if my contribution doesn't add to the the English Wikipedia! or maybe you can guide me on how to improve my article and I will appreciate it if you do. Regards, Rymknows23 (talk) 14:36, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

@Rymknows23 the main reasons that I declined the draft were the text sounding somewhat like an advertisement and a large number of the sources being unreliable. I haven't researched the company myself, but it would have to meet our notability guideline for companies to be accepted. Out of the English-language sources, none are reliable. Four are Twitter/Facebook/Linkedin/etc, which should not be used. Two don't even mention the subject, and one is a paywall. Not all of the sources have to be in English, but it's much harder for reviewers to assess their reliability. Whenever you are selecting a source, please keep in mind these things:
  • In-depth -- is the source specifically on the subject, or is it just a mention?
  • Reliable -- is the source known for its reliability, or is it a blog post/etc from an unknown website?
  • Independent -- is the source independent of the subject? Things like the company's website, their social media, etc. are not independent.
As for the text itself, there are some things that stand out as promotional. Here are just a couple of them:
  • Since the launch, FoodBeeper has super-sized its footprint in the Algerian food delivery market. (not sourced)
  • Since its establishment as a major player in the Algerian delivery market... (no source to show it is a major player)
In general it's not too bad, just the claims need sources to back them up. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 15:07, 6 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello, I editted the article, precisely, I removed all the unreliable sources, the unsourced statements, and fixed the promotional tone. I'd appreciate it if you can review the article once again. Thank you, ~~~~ Rymknows23 (talk) 11:48, 14 March 2022 (UTC)
Hey @Rymknows23, sorry for taking a while to get back to you. Unfortunately, I can't tell how reliable the sources are, since none of them are in English. I don't think it meets the notability guideline for companies, as companies have to show substantial coverage, more than just a few news articles. I'll leave it for another reviewer, however, to see if they have a different opinion. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 01:33, 15 March 2022 (UTC)
Ingenuity thank you so much, I appreciate that you took the time to clear things up for me. I'll make sure to edit and fix all the errors in my articles and resubmit it soon. Thank you, Regards, Rymknows23 (talk) 15:47, 6 March 2022 (UTC)

DYK for Ghost of Abraham Lincoln (photograph)

On 13 March 2022, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Ghost of Abraham Lincoln (photograph), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that a hoax photograph (pictured) was created appearing to show Abraham Lincoln's ghost standing over his widow? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Ghost of Abraham Lincoln (photograph). You are welcome to check how many pageviews the nominated article or articles got while on the front page (here's how, Ghost of Abraham Lincoln (photograph)), and if they received a combined total of at least 416.7 views per hour (i.e., 5,000 views in 12 hours or 10,000 in 24), the hook may be added to the statistics page. Moving pages to Draft space

Hello, Ingenuity,

You need to notify editors when you move their articles from main space to Draft space. There are scripts to help you do this. Also, it is unwise to move articles written by established content creators who have many more years of experience than you have. You are still a relatively new editor, compared to editors who have been here for a decade, so please use judgment when deciding whether to Draftify an article. If an editor has just created an article and is working on it, please do not move it to Draft space unless there are obvious problems like copyright violations, advertising or BLP violations. Thank you. Liz Read! Talk! 01:30, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Liz, which draft are you talking about in particular? I do use the MoveToDraft script, so it should notify the creators automatically. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 01:52, 22 March 2022 (UTC)

Simon Gerard additional sources

Thanks for your review on Draft:Simon Gerard.

I have added some additional sources to the page. Let me know if they suffice. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Renaissance domenic (talkcontribs) 20:11, 8 March 2022 (UTC)

@Renaissance domenic: it's better than it was, though it is still very likely to be declined. I'll go over each of the sources and point out what is wrong with each.
  1. this is a trivial source, as it only provides an overview (see this for more details)
  2. only a couple mentions
  3. doesn't mention the subject
  4. same as 3
  5. this is just an online store page, and shouldn't be used
  6. looks like a somewhat reliable source, though it's behind a paywall.
  7. same as 6
Basically, only one of the sources you have should be used in the article (and I can't even access it). Right now they don't seem to be particularly notable, but if you can find, say, three more good sources that are all significant, independent, and reliable, it'd be more likely that it will be accepted. However, a quick Google search that I did didn't turn up many good sources. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 20:35, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Thanks for providing your additional review, I just created this page as I thought that he might be considered notable, as he runs some large Australian businesses such as Mistral, and Bellini. https://mistral.com.au/ (primary/biased source) states that 9/10 Australians recall the brand, which is quite notable. Having personally owned a mistral appliance I can provide some anecdotal support of that claim.
Additionally, the Gerard family are one of the wealthiest families in Australia, with his father, Robert Gerard being involved with the Reserve Bank of Australia.(sourced in the page)
Products sold by brands under GSM, include Mistral, Linda, bellini, cheif, gardenglo, ringgrip, taller. Many of these brands are stocked by Australia Post, and Bunnings (one of Australia's largest trades stores)
Both Simon's father, and grandfather also have a wikipedia page. His grandfather also created a major brand, Clipsal.
Let me know if you would consider this additional information - happy to get any other Australian editors to vouch on the notability of the brands that Simon Gerard is involved with operating.
Renaissance domenic (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 20:56, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
@Renaissance domenic: unfortunately we can't use anecdotes as evidence of notability. In addition, notability is not inherited -- even if their family is wealthy, and some of their relatives are notable, that doesn't transfer to them. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 21:13, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
I agree that notability is not inherited, but I believe based on the articles and sources I provided, that he is notable, and his family history also adds some extra notability compared to not having that history.
I will attempt to modify the page to attempt to add some additional sources regarding the notability of brands such as Mistral Appliances (who probably should have a page as well) Renaissance domenic (talk) 21:39, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Hello @Ingenuity, i've added some additional sources from independent reliable websites which talk about a notable IPO of $85m that Simon Gerard was involved with. Renaissance domenic (talk) 21:57, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
@Renaissance domenic I still don't think the references show notability. Of the new ones you added (of the ones I can access, at least), only two even mention the subject, and one is a primary source. An advertisement for an air fryer definitely isn't something that should be used. I highly doubt that a reviewer will accept the page, even with the added citations. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 22:19, 8 March 2022 (UTC)
Hi @Ingenuity I've just finished improving the [[Draft::Simon Gerard]] page, plus adding many additional sources that directly quote Simon Gerard or mention him. If these suffice, would you be able to update your review or provide some comments on the talk page if you are happy with the current state of the article.
Some of the sources include information about Simon in board roles of multiple ASX listed organisations.
As I have auto confirmed permissions now, I am wondering whether I should move this article to the namespace. I've created a number of articles, but this is the only one sitting in the draft AfC process. Do you have any suggestions? Renaissance domenic (talk) 21:59, 22 March 2022 (UTC)
@Renaissance domenic I still don't think that they are notable. I've skimmed the new sources you've added, and they all appear to be focused on the company and only mention the subject one or two times. Some of the suggestions I made before still apply; the 6th, 7th, and 8th sources are just advertisements/store pages that don't mention the subject whatsoever. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 14:49, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

@Gamajoba123: any time you make a change on Wikipedia, it has to be backed up by a reliable source. Even after being blocked, you have continued to edit the page under several different usernames. @Gamajoba123 Yes, if you can find a reliable source to back up your changes, that is acceptable. However, you should comment on the sockpuppet investigations case I linked above before making any more changes to that article, as having multiple accounts and using them in that manner is against Wikipedia policy. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 01:34, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

There isn't a "magic guideline" on how to tell if a source is reliable, but in general reputable local/national/international news sources are reliable. A good guide is our list of reliable sources, however this does not have every source listed. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 01:48, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

@Gamajoba123 yes, as long as a source is trustworthy you can use it. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 02:07, 27 March 2022 (UTC)

April 2022

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you tried to give Brooklyn Subway Shooting a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into 2022 Brooklyn shooting. This is known as a "cut-and-paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is legally required for attribution. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases for registered users, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page (the tab may be hidden in a dropdown menu for you). This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge. Thank you. Love of Corey (talk) 15:23, 12 April 2022 (UTC)

About the Ice Age: Scrat Tales Draft

Just to clear some confusion, I didn’t move the draft to main space before any of the draft reviews could review it, nor did I tell the person who did it to do so. I’m going to leave a message on their talk page asking them to please not do that again because not only is it frustrating to draft reviewers to have to deal with that literally right before the page was going to be reviewed but also because now administrators have to go through the hassle of merging the draft’s history into the main space article. SlySabre (talk) 12:22, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

@SlySabre I guess I didn't clarify well in the decline reason, but I had noticed it was another user who had moved it. I've already left them a template message on their talk page warning them against copying pages. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 12:25, 19 April 2022 (UTC)

Hi ingenuity my changes were accidental, I noticed you are a well experienced user on Wikipedia so I am hoping you can help me save my article from deletion. Thanks —THEWIKISMITH THEWIKISMITH (talk) 02:52, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

@THEWIKISMITH: Unfortunately I don't think there's anything you can do to save that article. To have an article, they need to have several non-trivial roles. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 02:59, 2 May 2022 (UTC)

Comparison of XMPP server software

Hey. I reorganized the article according to XEP-0459 which is in the article and the link itself says about suggested XEPs, which IMHO explain this perfectly clear:

> Users need a way to compare applications without resorting to comparing for individual XEP numbers.
> For users, this provides an easy way to compare implementations based on their respective advertised compliance levels and year.

in a similar spirit i built Comparison of XMPP clients and reoganized Comparison of BitTorrent clients too. I think it fits perfectly into the Wikipedia convention where we avoid original research and we don't come up with our own arbitrary features that should be in the program. New page reviewer granted

Hi Ingenuity. Your account has been added to the "New page reviewers" user group. Please check back at WP:PERM in case your user right is time limited or probationary. This user group allows you to review new pages through the Curation system and mark them as patrolled, tag them for maintenance issues, or nominate them for deletion. The list of articles awaiting review is located at the New Pages Feed. New page reviewing is vital to maintaining the integrity of the encyclopedia. If you have not already done so, you must read the tutorial at New Pages Review, the linked guides and essays, and fully understand the deletion policy. If you need any help or want to discuss the process, you are welcome to use the new page reviewer talk page. In addition, please remember:

  • Be nice to new editors. They are usually not aware that they are doing anything wrong. Do make use of the message feature when tagging pages for maintenance so that they are aware.
  • You will frequently be asked by users to explain why their page is being deleted. Please be formal and polite in your approach to them – even if they are not.
  • If you are not sure what to do with a page, don't review it – just leave it for another reviewer.
  • Accuracy is more important than speed. Take your time to patrol each page. Use the message feature to communicate with article creators and offer advice as much as possible.

The reviewer right does not change your status or how you can edit articles. If you no longer want this user right, you also may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. In cases of abuse or persistent inaccuracy of reviewing, or long-term inactivity, the right may be withdrawn at administrator discretion. signed, Rosguill talk 19:49, 12 May 2022 (UTC)

@Ingenuity I'm interpreting this part of the manual of style: "Refer to any person whose gender might be questioned with gendered words (e.g. pronouns, "man/woman", "waiter/waitress") that reflect the person's latest expressed gender self-identification as reported in the most recent reliable sources, even if it does not match what is most common in sources.". Currently on the twitter profile of Emily J. Miller no states no prefers no/no pronouns: https://twitter.com/emilymiller. I don't think this clear preference should be ignored Pingiun (talk) 17:44, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Pingiun I'm actually not sure what to do in that situation. Usually, when someone does not go by he/she pronouns, "them" is used since using person-specific pronouns are likely to cause confusion for readers. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 17:48, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Ingenuity Maybe I should edit the article to use no pronouns and instead restate the name? Pingiun (talk) 17:51, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Pingiun that seems like a good idea to avoid confusion. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 18:37, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
No, it would not be a good idea. Certain activists and personalities have been mocking the LGBT community and pronoun usage for years, e.g. Ms. "My pronoun is Patriot", and it is only becoming more prominent with the advent of social media. Emily Miller, a correspondent for the far-right One America News Network does not sincerely or genuinely use "no/no" as her gender-preferred pronouns. Zaathras (talk) 22:19, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
@Zaathras oh, thanks for pointing that out... I didn't realize they were just making fun of the LGBT community... I'll keep that in mind in the future >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 22:55, 13 May 2022 (UTC)
No prob, and apologies if I came in hot and guns blazing here, it's just hard to deal with the hate out there, and its frustrating to see it start to see blue-checkmarked social media personalities' antics start tom seep into the Wikipedia. Zaathras (talk) 23:12, 13 May 2022 (UTC)

Hi IP -- the reason I reverted your edit is because you added your own commentary to the bottom of the article. In the future, please use the talk page for discussing the page's content. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 18:26, 14 May 2022 (UTC)

Account moderation

Hey Ingenuity, This account has seemed to been compromised from multiple different instances and has had a history of some questionable edits to a school page, and I really want nothing to do with the edits made by others. The edits were not constructive and I'm afraid that I will be linked to this spree of vandalism. I don't know if you are the right person to ask, but I was wondering about an account deletion or deletion of previous edits tied to the account and school page. Thanks DoganTozoglu (talk) 23:13, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

@DoganTozoglu: I'm afraid that it's not possible to delete an account (because of some attribution issues). I think this page may help you: Wikipedia:Courtesy vanishing -- essentially you can be renamed to "vanished user 1341234" etc. However, since your account has been used for vandalism, it may not be regarded as "in good standing", but it's worth a shot. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 23:22, 15 May 2022 (UTC)

Cleaner userscript

Hi Ingenuity, thank you so much for developing User:Ingenuity/cleaner, do you plan on making updates to the script? Justiyaya 04:11, 16 May 2022 (UTC)

@Justiyaya I was planning to make some updates, to add more features or to fix the existing bugs, within the next few weeks. I've been focusing more on my AntiVandal script over the last little while, but I've got that in a good enough state that I'll be able to work on the cleaner script soon. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 10:51, 16 May 2022 (UTC)
Nice! Can you potentially include the ability for the script to also fix another kind of curly quotes()? Another thing is that when the script notices an article doesn't have {{reflist}}, can it check for ==References== in order to not duplicate sections? Example for both can be found at Special:Diff/1087920192. Thanks again for making the script, it saved me a lot of time (especially with the relocate references feature) and made me make corrections that I otherwise wouldn't have noticed. @Tissia Lover: adding "He lost the 2022 election and went to ploughing his garden leaving the people of Lebanon without his annoying speaches" is definitely vandalism. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 12:31, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

I'll add this tweet as citations and the photo Tissia Lover (talk) 12:36, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

@Tissia Lover: the fact that he is working in his garden is not relevant to the article. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 12:37, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

@Tissia Lover as long as you write it neutrally, and add reliable sources, that is fine. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 12:39, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Fine then you do it, because I don't think I can after what he did to my people. I promise I won't edit this article again. Tissia Lover (talk) 12:41, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

@Tissia Lover I would just like to interject Tissia I notice that you are a student editor but even as a student editor you are not immune to the Wikipedia standards against vandalism the people that revert your changes are most likely north american due to the fact that most of america is awake when you make edits. We are just trying to keep Wikipedia as a place for sourced information please if you have any further questions dont be afraid to ask them and as always have a wonderful day you are allowed to edit the article but you need to provide sources for it and make sure it is neutral. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 12:43, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Just to clarify something. If you are not familiar with arabic on his tweet he said that he's going to keep ploughing his land till the next election. I wanted to add that as a citations in his personal life section. That's all. Tissia Lover (talk) 12:46, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Thank you for the clarification. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 12:49, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

And to make it also clear why i dispise American editors is because most of the citations i make are in arabic language and even though they are from a reputable source they just take them down just because they don't understand it. I have written 2 articles on arab writers which got deleted just because English speaking users don't understand the source so excise me if i hold a grudge just because days of work went into the trash bin Tissia Lover (talk) 12:50, 17 May 2022 (UTC)

Sectarianism page

Hi, I saw you undid my edit. Maybe I failed to explain properly the nature of my edit, but I am deleting the existing sections about Lebanon on the Sectarianism page linking them to the main article Sectarianism in Lebanon. The edit you undid was not made by mistake, but because keeping the section about Lebanon separated as it was in "Political" and "Religious" was misleading. The idea would be to keep just one section aboout Lebanon with an overview that then leads on the main page Sectarianism in Lebanon, where I already incorporeted the deleted sections. Hope I did explain my edit better now! Ziribilla (talk) 13:32, 19 May 2022 (UTC)

Alison Stone

Hi - following up on the declined draft for Draft:Alison Stone (poet). In your comment, you indicated that this person does not meet WP:NPOET criteria. By my reading, this person should be eligible under Creative Professional criterion #4, as her printed works are part of the permanent collection of the Poetry Foundation in Chicago (a major cultural institution and the equivalent of a significant gallery for the poetry world). Her poems also appear in their digital collection. I've edited the article to include these citations - let me know what you think. Alexsayde (talk) 18:21, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

Special:WantedTemplates

Hi! Would it be possible for you to add

/* <nowiki> */

to the top and

/* </nowiki> */

to the bottom of User:Ingenuity/AntiVandal.js? By putting these tags inside of javascript comments, it won't impact the functionality of your script, but it will keep the backend software from transcluding Template:" + data.template.wikitext + ". You will know if the tags worked if Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:" + data.template.wikitext + " no longer shows your javascript page. By fixing these, we can keep the number of entries in Special:WantedTemplates to a minimum. Thank you in advance for your help! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 19:23, 21 May 2022 (UTC)

New Page Patrol newsletter May 2022

New Page Review queue March 2022

Hello Ingenuity,

At the time of the last newsletter (No.26, September 2021), the backlog was 'only' just over 6,000 articles. In the past six months, the backlog has reached nearly 16,000, a staggering level not seen in several years. A very small number of users had been doing the vast majority of the reviews. Due to "burn-out", we have recently lost most of this effort. Furthermore, several reviewers have been stripped of the user right for abuse of privilege and the articles they patrolled were put back in the queue.

Several discussions on the state of the process have taken place on the talk page, but there has been no action to make any changes. The project also lacks coordination since the "position" is vacant.

In the last 30 days, only 100 reviewers have made more than 8 patrols and only 50 have averaged one review a day. There are currently 818 New Page Reviewers, but about a third have not had any activity in the past month. All 859 administrators have this permission, but only about a dozen significantly contribute to NPP.

This means we have an active pool of about 450 to address the backlog. We cannot rely on a few to do most of the work as that inevitably leads to burnout. A fairly experienced reviewer can usually do a review in a few minutes. If every active reviewer would patrol just one article per day, the backlog would very quickly disappear.

If you have noticed a user with a good understanding of Wikipedia notability and deletion, do suggest they help the effort by placing {{subst:NPR invite}} on their talk page.

If you are no longer very active on Wikipedia or you no longer wish to be part of the New Page Reviewer user group, please consider asking any admin to remove you from the list. This will enable NPP to have a better overview of its performance and what improvements need to be made to the process and its software.

To opt-out of future mailings, please remove yourself here.

Draft:NGC 549

I am the creator of the draft and since some people spammed submitted it while I was still working on it, can you remove the declined templates from my page? I did not submit it and it makes the draft look impossible to become its own article. Thanks. `~HelpingWorld~` (👽🛸) 02:04, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

AntiVandal Script

Hello I just wanted to say that I find it very neat that you are able to make your own AntiVandalism script. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 13:07, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

@SkyWolf369 thanks! I mainly just wanted a web-based interface similar to Huggle, and I have way too much free time... :P >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 13:08, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
Do you mind if I read through the code and see if I can find anything that could be tweaked I enjoy working on JavaScript code in my free time. Of course I will consult you before I make any changes if you would like. SkyTheWolf (Talk) 13:10, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
@SkyWolf369 that's fine! However only the user and interface admins can edit user js pages, so let me know if you have any suggestions. The code itself is a bit of a mess right now (it was originally meant as an Electron application, and most of the code was copied directly from there.) >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 13:13, 29 April 2022 (UTC)

Question

Why do you keep reverting my edits to the Hate group page? Your edits are entirely nonconstructive. I haven't taken out any of the right-wing hate groups from the See also section so why do you keep removing my references to left-wing hate? This is political censorship and you seem personally biased. --2A00:23C5:61B2:DE01:31F4:D2D4:B978:7BCC (talk) 14:08, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

A couple problems with that -- adding more groups to the See also section of "Hate groups" does seem like political bias. Before adding them, you should make a post on the talk page of the article and get consensus. Second, the See also section is already extremely long and should be trimmed down anyway, instead of adding more entries to the list. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 14:12, 11 June 2022 (UTC)

"More citations needed" for Relieving letter

You added the template "More citations needed" to Relieving letter. However, the article already has a citation for almost every sentence. Being the main author, I may be biased, but I still feel that a general "more citations" tag does not make sense. To be actionable, the missing citations should be detailed, so I removed the template.

If you feel there are still citations missing, please add "cn" tags, or hop onto the talk page. Thanks!

Sebastian (talk) 08:58, 15 June 2022 (UTC)

Hey @Sleske, the reason I added the "more sources needed" tag is because some of the sources aren't reliable. The first source is from Stack Exchange, which uses user-generated content. The second is an Indeed blog article, and the third also appears to be a blog article. It would be great if you could add more reliable sources, such as news articles from well-known sites. >>> Ingenuity.talk(); 12:59, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes, that makes more sense. I'll copy your remark to the talk page, and try adding other sources. Sebastian (talk) 13:33, 15 June 2022 (UTC)
