March 2017 edit

  Hello, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. This is just a note to let you know that I've moved the draft that you were working on to Draft:A.M. Pattison, from its old location at User:Ian.fraser1/sandbox/A.M. Pattison. This has been done because the Draft namespace is the preferred location for Articles for Creation submissions. Please feel free to continue to work on it there. If you have any questions about this, you are welcome to ask me on my talk page. Thank you. Note edit

Congratulations for your draft article. As it has been moved, and its talk page is now non-existent, I'm not sure if you could see my comment at User talk:Ian.fraser1/sandbox/A.M. Pattison. In case you did not, here's the link. I also think that if you add back the categories, now that it's no longer in user space they are less likely to get removed. Thanks and happy editing, PaleoNeonate (talk) 16:59, 20 March 2017 (UTC)Reply

Managing a conflict of interest edit

  Hello, Ian.fraser1. We welcome your contributions, but if you have an external relationship with the people, places or things you have written about in the page Draft:William Fraser (architect), you may have a conflict of interest (COI). Editors with a conflict of interest may be unduly influenced by their connection to the topic. See the conflict of interest guideline and FAQ for organizations for more information. We ask that you:

  • avoid editing or creating articles about yourself, your family, friends, colleagues, company, organization or competitors;
  • propose changes on the talk pages of affected articles (you can use the {{request edit}} template);
  • disclose your conflict of interest when discussing affected articles (see Wikipedia:Conflict of interest#How to disclose a COI);
  • avoid linking to your organization's website in other articles (see WP:Spam);
  • do your best to comply with Wikipedia's content policies.

In addition, you are required by the Wikimedia Foundation's terms of use to disclose your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution which forms all or part of work for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation. See Wikipedia:Paid-contribution disclosure.

Also, editing for the purpose of advertising, publicising, or promoting anyone or anything is not permitted. Thank you. Nathan2055talk - contribs 22:26, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Nathan2055: Hi Nathan. Thanks very much for your welcome back and the virtual cookies, which look virtually delicious! On the matter of conflict of interest, in the interest of full disclosure William Fraser is my grandfather but I never knew him as he died over 30 years before I was born. Some time ago I asked a Wikipedia editor about this relationship and at the time he said (and I'm sorry but I do not recall the editor's name, nor can I find the discussion) that the time distance should be okay for this submission. I have worked very hard to ensure this piece is factual, unbiased and wherever possible supported by reputable external references. Also, for what it's worth, in doing this Wikipedia page I found that the Dunoon Primary School page on Wikipedia mentions William Fraser and has a placeholder in red welcoming a contributor to submit an article on him. So, there you have it! I defer to your judgement and expertise. (If this submission is acceptable, I was also planning to draft and submit an article on my great uncle (William's brother) who was a missionary in Africa and author for which I have quite a lot of references as he was quite well known in his time.) Thanks in advance for all your help and consideration. Stay safe.Ian.fraser1 (talk) 23:04, 10 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Thanks very much for your comments and drawing these issues to my attention. All being well, I'll take another look at this tomorrow and do my best to address the issues as highlighted in

Earwig's Copyvio Detector and then resubmit the piece. If I don't get to it tomorrow, then I will do so on the weekend. Thanks again, and all the best.Ian.fraser1 (talk) 03:19, 11 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi Calliopejen1. I did as you requested, resubmitted the article [[Draft:William_Fraser_(architect)}} and have brought Earwig's Copyvio Detector confidence level down to 20% regarding the phrasing from the one source that was an issue. Earwig's Copyvio Detector is now showing copyright "violations" is "unlikely", so I am hopeful the article is now okay. Thank you for your kind assistance with this article. Best regards.Ian.fraser1 (talk) 00:37, 12 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

William Fraser edit

Do you happen to have a source for his having studied at GSA? It wasn't mentioned in the Dictionary of Architects reference. - Seasider53 (talk) 14:18, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I only have actual printed records on GSA letterhead. I did do a search for these -- or something -- online, e.g., an alumni listing of GSA students covering the 1887-1889 period, but unfortunately I couldn't find anything. Thanks very much for all your time and interest in this.Ian.fraser1 (talk) 14:55, 18 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

DYK for William Fraser (architect) edit

On 30 September 2020, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article William Fraser (architect), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that William Fraser won a commission in 1896 to design a memorial honouring Scottish poet Robert Burns, which incorporates a tower (pictured) in the Scottish baronial style? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/William Fraser (architect). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, William Fraser (architect)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.
