Hi

I'm new to Wikipedia. I'm trying to figure out whether investing my time creating articles here is a good idea, or whether alternative wikis might be better. Hyperborean 2006.04.11 12:49 (UTC)

Alternative Wikis are all posers. Stay here. ;-) —Cuiviénen, Thursday, 13 April 2006 @ 02:58 (UTC)
My view on alternative Wikis is that they are just that: alternative. They offer information, but often very specific information on a very specific subject. They also offer a different atmosphere than Wikipedia. Sometimes they are more laid back with the rules, sometimes they are quicker and better looking because of the smaller size. I have done work on some alternative Wikis, but, because there is a smaller range of information, I still always come back here. Even if you do do work on them, that will not stop you from creating articles here. -Platypus Man | Talk 19:47, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the comments! Over the last two or so months I've started to realize what a great thing Wikipedia is! Hyperborean 13:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Signature issue edit

You addressed an issue that you are having with your signature, that it doesn't link to your page. I'll help you as best I can. If it sounds like I'm talking down to you, I'm sorry, but I'm just trying to be complete. Go to "my preferences" at the top of the screen. Under "Nickname," it should have your name, however you want it to appear. If all it has is your name, then the "Raw signature" box should not be checked. If you want your name to appear as something other than just a name (extra links, font changes, whatever), then you should check the box, but you must include the proper links inside the box, exactly as it should appear on a page. My guess as to what happened is you only have your name in the box, but accidentally checked the box, making it not give you a linked sig. I hope this helps. -Platypus Man | Talk 19:38, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your thoughts about alt. wikis (which echoes what I've heard from others). And thanks for the tip about my sig problem (and I didn't think it sounded like you were talking down to me -- easier to be complete that have to answer the same question several times in different ways! Now testing the result of my having unchecked the "Raw signature" box.... Hyperborean 20:22, 1 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

My Spelling Changes edit

Yeah, I got yelled at already. I'm sorry. I won't do that again. Sorry.Cameron Nedland 17:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

No worries! My instincts about spelling pull me in the same direction as yours do, but we don't rule the world.... Hyperborean 19:57, 4 June 2006 (UTC)Reply

International English edit

Another editor has added the "{{prod}}" template to the article International English, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but the editor doesn't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and has explained why in the article (see also Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not and Wikipedia:Notability). Please either work to improve the article if the topic is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia or discuss the relevant issues at its talk page. If you remove the {{prod}} template, the article will not be deleted, but note that it may still be sent to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. AfD nomination of International English edit

An editor has nominated International English, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/International English and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 09:14, 7 January 2008 (UTC)Reply
